The issue with the birth that a lot of people seem to miss, is that it wasnt either the mother OR the baby, it was literally they either try to save the baby, OR they both die anyways. It still one of those brutal scenes that gives me chills and that I cant even rewatch easily, one of the best and worst moments in this entire messed up, bloody and gory show.

We don't actually know what name might have been given to the dagger (if it had a name at all)... in GoT, it was commonly referred to the "Cat's Paw Dagger" because it was used by the "Cat's Paw" (hired assassin) when trying to kill Bran. It's a dagger that was passed down from king to king, much like the large sword "Blackfyre" was, that we see occasionally with both Jaharys and Viserys.

I had the same experience of not remembering the HOTD spoilers; the information didn't register or attach itself to a known character, so I went into HOTD spoiler free despite having watched GOT countless times. But THEN I watched a GOT reaction after I had faces for names in HOTD, and did get a pretty major spoiler for later seasons 😭 You mentioned the well trained dragons. Keep in mind, during this period, there was a comprehensive best practice for dragon rearing, taming, and training, which is a framework Dany never has in raising her dragons later on.

What I think is interesting that neither show ever touched upon is when Daemon was given command of the City Watch, there was no organization and they had very little training, so he equipped every one of them with a sword and dagger and some decent armor and gave each a gold cloak, which is where they get the name “Gold Cloaks” that’s persisted to present day. Daemon is also called “Lord Fleabottom” because he was so frequently seen there himself with his men cleaning up the crime in the city. Knowing this you can see why they’re so loyal to him throughout the story

Yes, this was absolutely the peak of targaryen power. Ill not spoil things but ill try my best to answer any questions you have throughout the series, i cannot recomend fire and blood enough, the book is fantastic and the ending of the first season is the end of a chapter in the book so if you only wanna read whats been shown on screen it stops at convenient points :) 1.) "Do they know they did these crimes" yes 2.) "Oh my god this guy is evil" i thought this too but, having rewatched it a few times because its never not amazing to me, lord hand otto hightower started this round of insults so he kinda had it coming 3.) Viserys wasnt choosing between baelon and aemma. His choice was save baelon or lose both. I still struggle to watch the scene even though ive watched the show 4 times and have watched countless reactions, its so horrific 4.) "Ottos my favourite, i like this guy" *2 seconds later he sends his daughter to seduce the king while in one of her recently deceased mothers dresses* 5.) Yeah, dont go back and watch episodes of game of thrones with house of the dragon spoilers, one of the episodes in season 3 or 4 spoils a huge moment towards the end of the show 6.) "What year did the doom hit" the doom of valyria was about 102 years before aegons conquest, it is now the 112th year since the conquest 7.) Your thoughts on the future of the show are incredibly interesting and i cant wait to see how they change as more happens and gets revealed

The inclusion of Rhaenyra in the books was already in the later parts so the show didn't mention her being the first Queen Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms but technically, she was. And the mention of The Song of Ice and Fire was something the author wanted to add since it wasn't explicitly mentioned in the books. That prophecy most definitely points to Daenerys.

I'm not saying Daemon is a good guy but he can't be called evil for the conversation about wives in the small council meeting. Otto was the one who brought up Daemon's wife first. What business is it of Otto if Daemon is spending time with his wife or not? He shouldn't dish it out if he can't take it. Viserys and Aemma were first cousins. Remember Targaryens practiced incest to maintain their dragon riding blood. Viserys' parents were brother and sister and Rhaenys' parents were nephew and aunt. Their grandparents (Rhaenys, Viserys, Aemma and Daemon are all first cousins) are King Jaeaherys and Queen Alysanne (we saw Jaehaerys in the first scene). Jaehaerys and Alysanne were brother and sister too. Jaehaerys outlived all his children (he had three sons and six daughters. All, including his wife Alysanne, died in his lifetime from war, childbirth and illness. Well, except two but one daughter ran off to Essos and was never heard of again and the third son became a maester so had no children and presumably died later). Also, Aemma was dying regardless. So the choices were leave it to the Gods and let both die or save the child. Viserys was right in his choice but wrong in failing to tell Aemma.

King Viserys was the first Targaryen king with that name. Daenerys’ brother would have been the third King Viserys if he had ever actually become the king. The author of the series, George RR Martin liked the idea of reusing family names as they typically did when you look at the names of European kings. Almost every English king was a Henry, William or George, along with three Richards, a couple of James and now three Charles’. There was only ever one King John, because everyone said he was such a bad king that no one wanted to name their heir after him! This was an excellent premier episode for this new series. I liked how at the very beginning of the episode they had Queen Aemma tell her daughter that the birthing bed was the woman’s battlefield. And then we had the juxtaposition of the scenes between the graphic, primitive, cesarean birth, and the violent events taking place at the joust. Keep your eye on Daemon. He is a complex character. And I don’t think his motivations are necessarily the ones he would automatically assume from his actions.

I think it just meant the dreams that Targaryens see have different interpretations but are still true to some extent. "To unite the realm against the cold", "All of the Westros must stand against it". Dany and Jon did unite armies throughout the Westros, Wildings and Free Cities who fought against the cold. "A Targaryen must be seated on the iron throne", I think Viserys only saw glimpses of Iron Throne but not who was sitting on it. He must've seen both Jon and Dany, the Targaryens near the iron throne just before it's demise. Viserys probably just thought that Targaryens needs to continuously be in power to fight against the coming winter (probably like Dany) but likewise the prophecy was true that both last Targaryens united the world of men against a cold whether or not they remained on iron seat. After all the iron throne was what bought all these characters together in the first place.

At his time, Joffrey did spoil the ending of these series during GOT. When he was showing Margaery the dungeons and statues there, he spoke of Targaryens and Rhaenyra specifically. This explains a few things very well, though. Why did the king choose his son over his wife? He knew a "prince" MUST be seated on the Iron Throne, and that prince MUST absolutely be Targaryen. The future of their world would depend on it. And he thought his dream meant that his son would be the one to save the world, so he had to sacrifice his wife, as much as he loved her - the fate of the world was more important. He didn't know the dream could have been about someone later in his generation. Imagine if this went well, meaning - there was no Mad King, and Daenerys or one of her brothers would become the King/Queen. They would be told about what's coming, and they would be ready. They would have dozens of dragons to throw at undead before that army even began. Could be why Mad King became Mad, huh. That's quite a warning to give to a child, - "Hey, at some point there's gonna be the army of death marching from North, and it will kill everyone and everything unless you stop it. Pass it to your children. Good luck!"
