HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series is here and the eighth episode delivered the ending of one of the main character’s stories. Episode 8 saw King Viserys (Paddy Considine) pass away in his sleep. Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) is still his named heir, but he inadvertently confused his wife making her think he wants her son Aegon to take the throne.
This video doesn’t contain any book spoilers that will reveal future events that have happened on screen.

*Three* *Overlooked* *Scenes* When Daemon discovered Syrax laid 3 eggs. Have you ever seen Daemon so excited and smiling so big before? One of the eggs will hatch and become Morning, Rhaena's dragon. The moment Daemon discovered about the maester conspiracy. He smelled the cup filled with milk of the poppy. Understand that this is only the 3rd time Daemon has returned to King's Landing after *20* years. He returned when he seduced Rhaenyra and then when he invited himself to her wedding. The milk of the poppy is basically like morphine to keep Viserys sedated but he can no longer think straight which puts the Hightowers making decisions on the throne. Viserys had a hard time recognizing Daemon and Rhaenyra on their arrival. Daemon calls out Alicent on this. Then Rhaenyra asked Alicent who will be the one who will give judgement to Lucerys' inheritance? Alicent said that would be her and her father. Viserys showing up was important as this saves Lucerys' claim for Driftmark. Alicent no longer had authority over it. The scene with Mysaria. This is the one I didn't understand at first because I didn't know that was Alicent's servant girl, Talya, who gave the moon tea for Dyana (Aegon's rape victim). When you see someone wear a hoodie, you obviously think of Daemon or maybe Aemond. But it's Talya. I thought this would be the scene to poison Viserys but it wasn't. Viserys sorta died on his own. But this scene is important because it means Mysaria has a spy in the Red Keep. *Book Spoilers* Mysaria plays a role with Blood and Cheese and is a major ally to Rhaenyra during the war. So big, Rhaenyra let's Daemon sleep with Mysaria every night.

I think by far that Rhaenyra is the better mother and parent than Alicent is. I think that Aemond has always been Alicent's favorite son whereby she is always super critical of Aegon II and rightfully so. He is a horrible person. Viserys entrance into the throne room was so powerful because even though he was strung out on milk of the poppy, he understood what Rhaenyra was asking of him and he summoned all of his strength to walk unassisted all the way to the throne. When the crown fell and I saw it being picked up I first thought "well good for Viserys he can pick it up" and then I remember just as quickly how could he do that because his arm on the left side is completely gone. Seeing Daemon pick up the crown and then assist Viserys to the throne and then place the crown on his head was an emotional scene without any words between Paddy and Matt but it was superb in that their faces said all that needed to be said. I think at that point Daemon really truly feels for his brother and what he's been through. Then when Vaemond went and called Rhaenyra a "whore" I was like oh boy, that's not good. Then quick as I said that I was like "Whoa, there goes his head".....Otto and Alicent's expressions seeing Viserys walk into the throne room was also very telling in that they were almost panicked by seeing him there.....Rhaenys really had Vaemond thinking he was going to be the Lord of the Tides, only to have her be the one left standing....I hate to see Paddy leave as I really liked Viserys....He never got over being the one who caused Aeema's death and him greeting her as he was dying was poignant. All in all I loved this episode but if there was a downside, NO DRAGONS....but otherwise I just thought it was fantastic character development.

Alicent believed that Viserys was talking about that dream he told her about, seeing his son ruling over a united Realm. She just has the wrong context. The problem here is that even though she knows this guy intimately well. She knows that he has been absolutely adamant about Rhaenyra and her children, and who his heir is. She also has been acutely aware of his mental deterioration and most have known about the negative effects caused by milk-of-the-poppy, which Viserys just had. He was out of it, not responding back to her, wasn’t speaking too clearly and the context that she’s drawing from here was from something small he had confided with her about two decades earlier. She choose to interpret what little he said, half coherently, while not fully cognitive or aware of his surroundings as an absolute confirmation of something that she wanted. Understanding that that something would divide the Realm (in opposition of everything he has ever said) and could be seen as treasonous if she were to set such into motion.
@Kammerliteratur

I think Alicent realised that her dying husband confused her with his daughter. She might feel rejected because of this, especially because she was always there to care for him, and she might also think that this incoherent (and in her eyes possibly even heretical) mumbling of a promised prince is a very bad reason to make Rhanera the heir. But of course she still can and will use this to her advantage by wilfully misinterpreting Visery's last words as a wish to see her Aegon on the throne.

This time jump didn't bother me as much as episode 6 where we jumped from the younger versions to the older ones. And then they quickly killed off two characters, Laena and Harwin, who were essentially introduced in the same episode. Viserys should have stepped down before he was bed ridden and had Rhaenrya crowned. He could've said he would serve as her Hand to smooth over the transition.

I really really liked this episode. I love how complicated it was to keep track of. It was a bit of a throw back to how I felt watching the original series during the first couple of seasons where I referred to characters as that "that guy with the black hair and beard" because I couldn't remember everything. I'm glad they're not making it easy for the audience. That's what makes GoT so great in my opinion. One thing I really love is how Daemon's character has evolved. At first it seemed he might be written as the irredeemable character capable of just about anything, like killing his brother to become king. But now it's clear he would never do that and he's actually very loyal to the people he loves. It's a good contrast to Aegon and Aemond who are being developed as the maladjusted ones who probably would kill whomever they needed too regardless of any factors.

I appreciate your work you put into these videos. So much insight and you bring up really interesting questions. One thing that I'm intrigued with is the different perspective than what we get from the book. The maesters, I think, had a purpose - to minimize the dominance of the Targaryens and their dragons. There was no mention of the prophecy perhaps because they didn't believe in prophecies, or by the time they wrote the history, it had already disappeared. I just think it's looking more like an organized plot to have a major power shift in Westeros by using the Targaryens against themselves.

The dinner scene is a masterclass of melancholy in simplicity. Viserys watching the kids in a last dance before the Dance. Fleeting moments of bliss. Everyone hoping for the best, expecting the worst. For something so uneventfully peaceful, the passing was one of the most foreboding & viscerally filmed deaths I've seen. Book Viserys also doses off to the great beyond in his bed, after telling stories to grandkids. The king who was most unlike Aegon the Conqueror in life ends up being most like the Conqueror in death. Ok enough jokes. Now the serious stuff. Alicent was Always a Person of FAITH. Recall, she offered to teach Rhaenyra to pray. Also, look closely at Alicent's necklace: it appears she's wearing a Small seven point star, indicating she is a follower of The New God, not the Old Gods.

And if they stay true to GoT history, episode 9 is going to be the most off the chain of all. As a book reader though, I can't really think of what it would be, without another time jump.

Pretty sure Jayce asking Helena to dance was his way to subtly spite and make jealous her Brother-Husband as oppossed to open conflict infront of grand-patty.

Notice when Aemond (AAAAAH Baby Monk from TLK) walks out he says "Mmmm" that is an expression of Daemon's. Check some of the other Episodes. Daemon is usually smirking at someone and then when the person freaks out Daemon would go "Mmmm". Several times I swear. I had the freakin' closed caption on too. LOL So when Aemond did that I went yep "Mmmmmm."

For some reason, I haven't gotten any notifications from your channel although I got everything activated ☹Thank you for breaking it all down. This episode had me tear up a couple of times, and I love when shows/movies are able to do that because it means that they managed to make you care for the characters.

we will certainly miss Paddy Viserys... 1 - I wish Vaemond death scene was more Rhaenyra related and had some sort of resistance before daemon cut him. 2 - I loved the dinner scene, giving Viserys a bit of hope before he died. At the same time, showing how the kids are too build in rivalry and schemes from their parents(Luce laughing at a roast pig in front of Aemond, Aegon being Aegon, AEmond mockery). 3 - Where is Daeron, we need him at least mentioned. 4 - I don't like this prophecy keeps coming back. Let the more palpable affairs rule this series.

Which side is right, which side is wrong? Well, to put it simple: Rhaenyra is the heir; her father made the realm bend the knee and swear an oath of fielty to her. and the Hightowers usurped the throne. Of course Viserys made many mistakes. He named his daughter as his heir, but then he shortly remarried and had other children. He seemed utterly oblivious of the fact that, in a deeply misogynistic and patriarchal society, this would likely challenge Rhaenyra's claim.

7:15 no, she draped herself in the regalia of the Faith in an appeal to gain favor and power. We saw Cersei do the same. Alicent is from Oldtown where the Faith is headquartered it's no coincidence

Like the idea that the account and the reality differ. I too wonder why the hire to the thrown would not be in court, particularly when the king could go any day.

‘Rushing’ towards the king’s death is a funny way to start your review: for the several episodes, we thought it was his last. It’s like the chair/throne caused a slow, agonizing death on purpose. Like: sitting here is not all that great!
