@@CameronkAK In the books it is never explained why Cole went from being Rhaenyra's closest guard to being devoted to Alicent and the green's. Something happened between them before Rhaenyra was to be wed that made him hate her, and then he was just devoted to Alicent. I think they are trying to explain why he went to the extremes he went later on the story, by saying he was in love with Alicent all those years and they waited the king to die to start their affair. Idk... I also think it was kinda unnecesary to throw this in and how abrupt it was. It almost felt out of character for Alicent, it came without warning.

I liked the idea that just as she never loved Aegon, and her knowing he was grooming Jaehaerys, she saw it as the best course of action to save the version of herself in Jaehaera. Reminds me of when he was being crowned, she was very hesitant to not only acknowledge him, but to even look upon him. Like when Vaemond lost his head, she anticipates death, but has an extreme aversion for it. Considering her book counterpart, I'm loving this version and can't wait to see how they explore her connection to the other side of Targaryen blood through prophecy.

Initially, B&C did go to Aemonds room, but he wasn’t found so they went to the dowager queen's chambers (meant to be Alicent's chambers) but found Helaena and her children instead.

The opening scene was so freaking phenomenal, seeing Winterfell (a bit of history of the Starks sending people to the wall) the Wall itself and off course Cregan Stark himself. Loved it. Emma D'Arcy's Acting is remarkable, Aegon having his fun with Tyland at the small council was so great 🤣🤣 Still pretty conflicted about Alicent and Criston as well as how Blood and Cheese was done but other than that... a really good first episode. Great being back in Westeros. Bring on episode 2.

I know, a lot of audience are still not satisfied of that ending because it was "underwhelming" compared to the books. It was done perfectly for me. And Helaena's horror while fleeing with the sound of her son being killed is haunting enough. The only underwhelming detail for me is Daemon wanting it to be Aemond. Like did HE seriously rely on those two to kill Aemond? I thought he deliberately ask Blood and Cheese to kill the son of Aegon. That would have been darker and brutal and befitting of his character.

Alicent was tied and mouth covered, not being able to warn Helaena and the kids as they enter her room (Helaena and the kids visit Alicent every night) and them replacing Helaena trying to give out her life instead to her trying to give out her necklace like? And no guards? In the middle of a war? In the castle of where the Queen and King lived? Rhaenyra also knew of the attack but I think it's okay to give Daemon that flaw to show the viewers of him grasping power away from his Queen Rhaenyra. Helaena walking in Criston and Alicent rollercoaster session is just such a disgrace. I would have loved them to highlight the greyness and complexity of these two sides and now it just so plain and simple like Team Green bad, Team Black good.

@@mappingshaman5280 A. This is a personal opinion but Helaena doesn't process things around her like normal ones do. So a gut wrenching scream (like Catelyn Stark) is kinda out of character. And I love how they show a different kind of horror and grief in this scene. She was processing things like she was in a trance, as if she couldn't believe what was happening... the empty, still and quiet corridors added layers. When she walked in on her mother, nothing even registered and she quietly sat down while trying to process what happened. That kind of horror is harder to show and they deliver. B. Fair enough. But I hardly think Daemon would think Aemond will be killed that easily. Did he think the secret passage will lead to Aemond's room and they can sneak in while he was sleeping and kill him in his sleep? Aemond is not some random dude without training. And I think he would like to end him in his own hands knowing how blood thirsty he is and how he wanted to avenge Luke so much.

While I love Rhaenys and her interaction with Daemon. This makes TWICE that she could have prevented the horrors to come. Her first opportunity was in the dragon pit when she could have smoked all the Greens, the second was when she could have flown with Daemon to Kings Landing to get Vhagar and Aemond. I understand why she didn't in each of these scenarios but she was present at both these pivotal points. Daemon had to go with a different plan when she refused to fly with him and that plan ended up being Blood and Cheese.

As someone who didn't read the books, I LOVE GRRM's willingness to portray the dark and gritty nature of humankind by holding no punches back. Rape? Check. Murder? Check. Murder of children? Check. Brutal tortures? Check. He is the Grimm brothers to the childhood stories that people have otherwise washed until they're all happy-go-lucky stories. This was an epic episode and an improvement over the previous season (which was already well written for the most part). The final scene plays out differently in the books but i do not care as it was equally tense. Showing the brutal assault of a minor would have been cut anyways and that's something i would have skipped anyways.
