Helaena isn’t crazy, she is a dragon dreamer. She dreams prophecies, like saying that “he will need to lose an eye” when Aemon was talking about wanting a dragon in previous episodes. Aegon the Conqueror was a dreamer, both with his prophecy of the song of ice and fire written on the blade, but also of the Doom of Valyera which is why the Targareans left before it and survived. If you listen to her mumbles you will gain a lot of insight.

Danny had visions in the house of the undying, which a lot of people have, because they use magic and some sort of drug. Forgot what it is, but it's the stuff that makes your lips purple/blue. So it was visions induced by drugs and magic in her case.

Not many people figured this out, but: The reason why the White Worm was aware of the king's death was because the scene in the beginning when the kid told Talya (the servant); there was a short scene where after Alicent was made aware and told her not to tell anyone, Talya lit a candle in the window of the Red Keep (a signal confirmation of the King's death to the White Worm) while the entire castle was completely dark. This is why the White Worm captured Aegon after telling him (about the King's death) and promising to hide him until she betrayed him to Otto. When the Twins captured Aegon he asked if The King being dead was true. Just something I caught while watching.

Also, lighting a candle was a trope for Game of Thrones: when Sansa Stark was married to the repulsive Ramsey Bolton, the lady knight told Sansa to light a candle in the window if she ever needed help. That knight watched that window for days … unfortunately, Ramsey found out and stole the candles 😔

That was Rhaenys' way of rejecting Alicent and the Greens. She's declared for Rhaenyra. I think Rhaenys also looking at the Balerion's skull made me think she's also supporting Rhaenyra because they are the true Targaryen dynasty (her family) whilst Aegon would be essentially a Hightower puppet. Rhaenys sees Aegon taking the throne as the Targaryens losing the throne to the Hightowers in all but name. That's my two cense anyway.

Just to clarify guys all of Alicent children in fact have dragons! Aegon has Sunfyre Aemond has Vhagar and Helaena has Dreamfyre. Even the fourth child Daeron who is likely to appear in season 2 has a dragon called Tessarion. The big deal with Aemond is he has the largest dragon. Loved the reaction as always 👍🏼

The one and only reason to have this scene, would be for her to AT LEAST attack them, with some or even just one of team greens people to die while the others flee for safety. To show up with an entrance like that, and do nothing to the people who you KNOW have crossed a line that they can’t come back from, is silly. This is what happens when the writers are trying to give the fans/audience a scene that isn’t even in the books, just so we can have SOME action. You start creating inconsistencies and in turn give characters ridiculous plot armor. This episode would be 10 times better had it ended at Aegon pumping his fist to the crowd. Most GOT fans had/have serious issues with seasons 6-8, but here we all are, balls deep into a show that never had high hopes for success, only to be pleasantly surprised that it’s amazing. And now once you have created an amazing show, that to some degree, has been able to wash out some of the bad tastes out of our mouths season 8, to start traveling down that old shitty writing road, once again. God I hope that this bad writing, won’t return in season 2. If they don’t fix it, it could get really bad for this show. Oh and by the way….on the “Sir Christin Cole should be dead meter”…..I think we hit our season limit in this episode. How in the hell can they justify keeping a guy around who not only murders innocent people, but does it in front of tons of witnesses, only to be given a pass time after time after time. Hashtag plot armor…once again.

Also another thing that people don't seem to notice about why Rhaenys did not just blast everyone to smithereens in that pit right then and there: if she killed them, she was toast. Remember, she didn't like Rhaenyra and thought she had killed her son Laenor. Plus, regicide and killing off such a large chunk of the royal family would destroy her reputation and her power and her position and everything. Any family she has would either be forced to relinquish her or join at war with the Targaryen family (blood is blood after all, and Rhaenyra would be expected to avenge her siblings lest everyone start to think house Targaryen as weak). Even Rhaenyra after coming to power would have been forced to execute Rhaenys out of sheer pressure of the court and people, if not her own volition. And most importantly, it wasn't Rhaenys' place to put the first blow. Yes treason is punishable by death, but only by the King/Queen. It wasn't her family or her fight directly. She herself didn't know which team she would join at that time, even though the Green did imprison her - she could've just very strategically stepped outside and simply joined the victors once everything was truly settled. Why would she do such a huge thing for Rhaenyra's side? And knowing too that after what she has done, she would NOT be rewarded for it.

Remember how shocked Otto looked when she said "Your King is dead" ? The house burning was the White Worm's house on the orders of Larys by the Queens approval. Alicent's hands are not clean.

Rhaenys wasn't encouraging Alicent to take the throne. She was calling Alicent out for not having any ambition or power of her own. Alicent has been a pawn for the patriarchy her whole life. She lives by the rules set by men. It's part of why she resents Rhaenyra so much. Rhaenyra has tried to live a life that is her own and Alicent is jealous of her for that. It's actually rather sad. So Rhaenys is telling Alicent that, while she has potential, she'll never fully break free. If Alicent were actually thinking for herself, she knows Aegon is a monster and completely unfit to rule. Whether she'd support Rhaenyra or not, she knows that she'd at least be better than Aegon. But I don't know if she even would fully support a woman on the throne as she is so indoctrinated in the patriarchy.

If I had recorded my reaction to watching this live, you would see I came up with crazy stuff as well. That’s what makes this show great. I was shouting “SAY IT” when Rhaenys appeared on her dragon. But I also knew she couldn’t kill them all. Regicide and kinslaying is frowned upon in Westeros (one of the few things that is 😊) so Rhaenys would have destroyed any chance of Rhaenyra’s or even her own granddaughters claims to the throne. I didn’t see Aegon’s and Heleana’s children at the coronation. If they survived then they would have been in the direct line of succession since their Dad had just been crowned King. I think. But that’s a technicality because Rhaenerya is the one true heir!!! Great reaction guys!

Though I doubt deep down she believes he meant her aegon but in that moment it's all she needed. Sure she mended some of her beef with Rhaenyra but she's been trying to make aegon king for a decade. Both ambition, love of her children, tradition and self delusion is why she "believes" his words are about her aegon.

The "spiders in the cells" (e.g. Talya) are likely safe; they were only confined temporarily so none can spread news of Viserys' death outside the Red Keep. It's just that Talya beat Larys to the punch by lighting a candle by the window as a coded message that White Worm could see. Since Larys thinks bees without their queen (Misaria) just fly around aimlessly, the spies will likely be allowed to live, or enticed to flip sides and join Larys' own spy network.

Very good episode and reaction! *I thought Aegon would kill himself with the dagger. *The house / brothel of the White Worm was burned down, it was shown as her place multiple times. It probably was Larys and Otto will get the blame IF the White Worm is still alive. (She maybe escapes to Daemon?) *Rhaenys casually killing lots of people with the dragon breaking out 👀😁 *They built the dome just like they did in the real world so many ages ago. Just look at the Pantheon. Generally either a wooden structure was made to build a dome on top of and was later removed or dirt was piled up and they simply put the stones on top and removed the dirt from underneath. I’ll admit that I’m Team Black (largely because of Daemon, haha) but I like how the writers have fleshed out Alicent in the show - imho, her role is more multi-dimensional in the show than in the books, and she’s a very interesting/complex character who seems to be in a perennial struggle with herself. I was glad to see that she advocated for peace between her children and Rhaenyra despite the situation at hand.

“Beware the beast beneath the boards” - really pay attention to Halaena :) One thing about Aemond is he knows what duty is and he’s always ready to serve. He would not kill his brother because he knows the eldest son is heir as it is by the code. Should anything happen to him then he will step up. Aemond has that targaryen similarity to Daemon but he’s also meant to be opposite, not rash or arrogant but honorable etc Daemon when young was more of an Aegon where he spent his days on the street of silk and had fun, his nephew though had always recognized the more important things in the grand scheme since he’s been a kid. Really incredible characters both of them. From this episode you just see everyone being victims to their circumstances. Even Aegon who is a terrible human- has not received any love or guidance / affection, instead only pressured in regards to power and the throne. So when he sees the people respond in love he actually thinks there could be something to have within that throne. Rhaenys doing what she did was amazing to see but also we know how little they care about common folk- she just killed hundreds of innocents instead of taking the dragon made exits. Next episode will be 🔥

I think many people misidentify the kid in the beginning as a "little bird" but he's actually just a serving boy, hence the official clothes. It was his job to check in on the king in case he wanted anything and that's when he discovered he was dead.

Love your reactions. I understand why you might be confused on a few things. The show moves quickly and a lot has to be inferred. Some clarification...The house that burned was the White Worm's. At least it is a place she uses for meetings. I'm not sure what else. That was what Larys was referring to when he talked to Alicent. He meant the network of spies controlled by the White Worm. That balcony with the arches that was burning was seen in a previous episode where the White Worm had met with Alicent's servant who has been spying on Alicent and presumably the rest of her circle. And it was that same servant that lit a very specific set of candles in a window of the keep, probably to signal to the White Worm that the king had died. That is almost certainly how the White Worm then knew about the king's passing before nearly anyone else. Otto was fighting tooth and nail to keep that information quiet until he can get everything in place for Aegon to be crowned king. On a side note, maybe Larys burning the White Worm's home/place of business (or whatever that building represented to her) was symbolic or maybe Larys killed a lot of her spies or whatever, but without seeing the White Worm actually die I will assume for now that the White Worm probably escaped. As for the two groups trying to find Aegon and fighting in the street, the twin brothers were working together to find Aegon for Otto while Cole and Aemond were trying to find Aegon for Alicent. Once the two sides came into conflict over who Aegon should be taken to, something made the one twin pull back and withdraw from the conflict. Or maybe he was already planning to. I'm not sure. Either way, later it is THAT twin that withdrew from the conflict who frees Rhaenys. To be clear, the fighting in the street was over whether Aegon would be taken to Otto or Alicent. Alicent wanted to convince Aegon NOT to follow Otto's plan to slaughter Rhaenyra and Daemon and the kids. Probably other things as well. Alicent no longer trusts her father and did NOT want him having control of Aegon. And the twin brothers now also appear to be in conflict, supporting different sides.

If she had nuked all of the Greens present at the coronation, Aegon's other brother Daeron would have been next in line to the throne. Daeron hasn't been shown this season, he's in Oldtown with the extended Hightower family. He's gonna be major next season.

The source material they are using is the book Fire and Blood. The main reason why the story you are seeing on screen doesn't match what is in the book is that the book was written as a history book by a person who compiled it over 100 years after the events occurred based on writings from a Septon, a Maester, and a Fool (Mushroom) who are all considered unreliable sources. The book, for instance, says King Viserys was a drunk but that could have been written by someone who didn't like him.

In the book Alicent is just simply a tool of Otto and goes with everything he wants. At least in this, they make her see that it's wrong but won't grow a backbone and do anything. Rhaenys basically gave Alicent the Iron Throne speech from GoT, all she had to do was sit on the throne, but she's a coward and won't. Aegon will probably be even more of an instrument of Otto's, since Aegon is a cruel and heartless person, that only sees others as props for his amusement.

The little boy was a servant tasked to wait in the King’s chambers in case the King needed something or if something happened. He saw the King passed away so he went to inform the Queen’s lady maid. The people who were imprisoned were everyone who had knowledge of the King’s death. The Hand wanted to stop news from spreading, preventing news to reach Dragonstone (where Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon were) so he had enough time to install Prince Aegon as King before Princess Rhaenyra came knocking on the doors claiming her throne. That was why the Hand didn’t allow the lords to leave King’s Landing unless they swear fealty. That was also why they locked Princess Rhaenys in her room, stopping her from alerting everyone else.

A few answers to some of the questions I can remember. 1. The little boy was informing the queens handmaid that the king was dead (part of the web of informants in the castle) 2. The White Worm is the woman who is the head of that informant network which is how she knows the king is dead when she talks to the Hand 3. The building we see burning is the White Worms home, Lord Larys destroys it and we can assume kills her.

Rhaenys didn’t want power, she just didn’t want her dragon to be chained and imprisoned until the war was over, or held captive. She have them a warning at the end to never cross her or her family, the reason for her not burning alicent is she doesn’t want to be responsible for the death of a mother and all her children. It would also make rhaenyra’s rule a bloody start.

I was more enticed for rings of power, which has been a disappointment for me, but this shows been delivering. I think here Rhaenys showed that she had more power than theyve been assuming her to have. She showed so much power by not destroying and instead giving the gift of life, because she could. I think she also spared the queen as of course they could have easily taken her out like they did to others while usurping the thrones. Just beautiful 👌🏽

Rhaenerya can’t tell Rhaenys about Leonor because it will null and void her own marriage to Daemon if the legit husband is alive. Rhaenys fired a warning to the grubby Greens. She also recognised Alicent’s love for her son and showed mercy. Plus it’s a civil war - there needs to be a process of getting allies and each side trying to negotiate and treat with each other. The tragedy is it’s family against family…and bro against sis. Until first blood is drawn then there’s always a chance for peace. Also these are also Rhaenys’s family she can’t be a kinslayer - a very taboo thing in this world. Also the realm would never accept it as at this point a good number of houses have declared for the Greens. It would lead to chaos. Plenty of epic things are lined up tho.

Just look how Haelena is terrified telling this... and how she don't even look at the coronation, literally turning the head away... when Meleys shows up she is cool. in terms of characterization, the greens are just so much more interesting. when aegon asked alicent if she loved him she didnt give him a proper answer, but in the face of a literal fire breathing dragon she ran up to him and used her own body as a shield. he is the culmination of everything she resents in her life, yet her love for him is undeniable. she was willing to die then and there, and although aegon and alicent's relationship is clearly not a very good one, i think it's very telling that he asks for his mother and seeks her comfort at his very lowest. none of alicent's children feel this way about viserys. no matter how many people say he's a good person and a good father, the fact is, he wronged those children and his wife for 20+ years. in turn, they dont care about the father who never cared about them. alicent, though imperfect and clearly mentally ill, was the only one who was ALWAYS on their side. aemond in particular looks very close to and is very gentle with alicent despite his general...disposition. when you think about it, it tracks. when he had a gaping hole in his skull that was freshly sewed up only his mother was crying for him. only his mother was defending him. leo ashton, young aemond's actor, said that he thinks it's natural to want to protect your mother especially when she's the only one who's been raising you. paddy, viserys' actor, said in an interview that one of his kids with alicent said "you hate us" to him and it really struck him because how could you ignore your children so much if you dont hate them?

Perhaps Viserys was distant because they aren't the children from the wife he actually loved? Alicent he married out of duty, but he truly loved Aemma, and he loved and cared for his daughter Rhaenyra, since he chose her to rule after him. Also, Aegon is a psychopath that uses people as props for his enjoyment. Clearly Alicent was not as good as a mother as people assume. Sure, she loves her children, all mothers usually do, but there was obviously something going on all these years, many years that are not shown in the series.

@@My-Name-Isnt-Important im sorry but thats no excuse for him being a terrible father. all otto had to do was make alicent stand in front of his door with a book in hand and make her listen to his ramblings. there isnt much scheming there at all. the responsibility is on viserys. she was also 15 which is literally not much older than 12 year old laena velaryon who everyone agreed was too young to marry. even in asoiaf there are people who are too young to marry (15 is accepted yes, but it is still way too young in this standard), this remains true in the book AND in the show. ep 4 literally showed her being maritally raped. viserys married a 15 year old, raped her maritally, and forced her to bear 4 children as a teenager just for him to not care about them at all. of course alicent is mentally ill and probably not suited to become a mother. and aegon is not a psychopath. he is a rapist just like his daddy. funny cause in the books, him being a rapist was only something mushroom (rhaenyra's fool) said, and he wasnt even in king's landing most of the time. they changed so much of him in the show. in the book, he truly did not want to become king and very much respected rhaenyra. but when criston cole told him that rhaenyra and the people around her would kill his mom, his brothers, his sister/wife, and his children, he finally accepted. his bond with his dragon sunfyre is also the best example of how strong a dragon and rider's bond could be. he literally changed his sigil so that it would look like his dragon. but since the show is clearly leaning black, none of that is shown. it's insane that syrax has been shown more than sunfyre when syrax isnt nearly as important as him. even the youngest of alicent's kids (and the kindest of his brothers, a fan favorite) wasnt mentioned at all this season and he's literally one of the biggest threats to rhaenyra along with aemond. this show is purposefully trying to make the greens look bad when they had completely understandable motivations in the book, meanwhile daemon is out here being whitewashed despite his clear taste for little girls (not just rhaenyra).

So, the stories are finished within the book. So the whole source material is there BUT the book was written by, I believe, 3 different accounts. So it’s in the point of view of maesters & whoever was there. So theres of course different sides to each event. A lot of rumors but the true may be somewhere in there. HOTD is going to show us what realllllyyy happened, especially since GRRM is helping the show runners putting book into episodes. That’s why many were surprised that Leanor is still alive. He supposedly died in the book, killed by Qarl, his lover. I read somewhere that GRRM even helped write the season finale.

There are many reasons why Aegon is wanted on the throne. He is from the Hightower line and male is one of them but the greens also think Aegon is easily controlled and that Otto will be the true power behind the throne. For that reason Aemond will never be offered the throne as he isn't easily controlled. If necessary and they couldn't find Aegon his son would have been crowned King. He's just a boy and thus easily controlled by his elders. But Aegon...they have no idea the monster they just gifted power. Yeah...long live the king.
