Alicent has grown her children all of her life in fear of what Rhaenyra will have to do to ascend the throne and now all she needs to scrap all of it is a walk in the woods and a long shot of her being triggered after Aemond excluded her from the council?? What they made her do in this episode proves Aemond was right all along, she is indeed a fool who holds love for their enemy and she needed to be cut out of power. The problem with show Alicent is that they wrote her as being Rhaenyra's friend from the start, in Fire and Blood they are not childhood friends, they are 6 years apart and they are rivals ever since Alicent marries Viserys and everything she does comes out of her own agency. In the show they wanted to hint at the fact that it was all Otto's manipulation because they thought it would be more interesting ti show us the 99999th female charcater who is a poor innocent victim of patriarchy instead of a female charcater who actually accepts the rules of the game and tries to play it as best as she can following her own motivations like, you know, CERSEI FUCKING LANNISTER. And if even if you write her like they did, her decision in episode 8 makes her look like and absolute lunatic who just needed a confirmation of what Aemond is (as if she hasn't known for years) and a bath to throw away everything she has done since season 1 episode 5 onwards. It's like in the later seasons of Game of Thrones, when D&d forgot that in order for a scene to be epic, it needs a build up that makes it logical instead of being just a random punch in the face of the audience to add shock value, like for example Rhaegal's death or Arya killing the Night King...

Cersi, Lady Macbeth, Elizabeth I etc. real and fictional women can be written as strong, Machiavellian and murderous as men. It just takes strong writers (not “boss babe Mary Sue’s) to delineate the line between believable and perfunctory. I agree that this season has wasted a lot of the buzz built up after the first season, just like a leaking tire slowly deflating with failure to meet audience expectations with characters, plotting and story forward motion. When I think of a great female character I would always point to lady Olenna Tyrell from GoT. Amazing actress and such an interesting character who schemed, played politic on the level of Tywin Lannister who was a beast, yet - Olenna could play even him in a conversation. Cersei, Sansa, Margaery Tyrell, Daenerys (though I had many problems with her), lady Cathelyn Stark - amazing and powerfull women who were a joy to watch, played their cards right and struggled on their journey. Not to point out that it was obvious that Olenna wore pants in the family as even Mace Tyrell seemed fully dominated by her - also, it was clear that Olenna most probably played huge part in Reach politics.

Oh I miss characters like lady Olenna Tyrell. Woman who rulled over her husband - as it was clear who wore pants in their marriage. Was cunning, yet loved her own family so much and with charisma and political talent she was on the same level with people like Tywin, Varys, Littlefinger - even sometimes bested them in rhetoric. Scenes with Olenna and Tywin were such a joy and there was also place for some comedy! Real comedy, not Tyland Lannister in mud, being awkward or bullied by child level comedy.

I keep saying that... her son Daeron just entered the conflict, Criston Cole is still fighting, as is her brother Gwayne.... her switching sides, for the sake of her daughter and granddaughter isn't realistic. What about the rest of her family? Even if she is willing to sacrifice Aemon and Aegon, she still has another son on a dragon, and no way of guaranteeing he and Aemond, who have their own 'sentient nukes' will bow down to Rhaenyra... The biggest issue are the writers focusing so much on Alicent and Rhaenyra, 2 fairly uncompelling and boring characters and doing the bare minimum developing everyone else. Everyone except them 2 are massively underdeveloped. We never see Corlys's relationship with his kids or grandkids. He talks to them once if that and then that's it. Does he care about them? Baela is a nothing of a character with no ambition, wants, or needs. She'll occasionally (usually once) talk to others to make them feel better but that's it. Why wasn't she training the new dragon riders? Give her something to do. Why did Jace come back from the north just to complain and do nothing else? Leave him in the north to strengthen that alliance. Why didn't we see Rhaena being pressured into claiming Vermithor like Daemon desperately wanted her to? Give these characters something. Alicent looks and feels more like a High-school friend than a mother to her kids. Halaena gets 1 scene every episode, her surviving kid is nonexistent as is her relationship with her brothers who she talks to once this whole season. And apparently there's a 3rd brother too who we've never seen. Aegon teases Aemond twice in the span of 20 years and now he's all of a sudden ready to sacrifice the only other dragon rider on his team essentially sacrificing the entirety of team green in the process. They did the bare minimum with Alicent's kids. We don't even know their relationships with their dragons. Dany's dragons play, do these dragons? These dragons have lived together for multiple generations, do they feel any remorse when they kill each other? Are these dragons siblings? Who's laying the eggs? Do they have personalities? Are any of them close with 1 another? We don't know anything about these dragons. They're just whipped out for action scenes. Dragons dying evoke about as much emotion out of me as a tank getting destroyed does. Animal companions. Develop them and their relationships with their riders. And what's with giving Daemon all this build up only for him to do nothing with it? Am I gonna betray my brother? Nope. Am I gonna betray my niece? Nope. Why are we spending 5 episodes watching him think about doing something he decides not to do? Why build up to something not happening? Waste of time and buildup. And Rhaenyra and Alicent are just straight up annoying. 2 closeted lesbos who get together to have tea time every now and then after multiple family members die. When Alicent isn't taking a million baths she's just reacting to people around her move the plot forward. It'd be like if GOT centered the King's Landing plot around Podrick. Why are we watching this from your POV? Her relationship with Cole isn’t interesting at all. And Rhaenyra even says something along the lines of how she can't do anything and how bored she is. Indeed, it is boring watching you do nothing. Why is the camera on you?

I couldn't agree more with everything you said, and I'd like to add the Hull brothers and Hugh to that list. I'd have loved to see the brothers just being brothers, some of the struggles Alyn mentioned maybe, anything with some substance. Instead all we got was the annoying "Boohoo, I want daddy to recognize us" - "Yeah, I don't" on repeat. 😩 Or Hugh... give us some scenes with his daughter before she gets sick, let us get attached to them, laugh with them - and THEN kill her off! Do you remember the scenes with Ned and little Arya? God, it would have ripped my heart out witnessing a relationship like this with Hugh and his girl and then seeing her die. 😭 But as things are, I couldn't care less about about anyone on this show. Vhagar can burn them all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is clearly said that Sunfyre and Vhagar appeared simultaneously, and Rhaenys only had one chance to run-when she saw the two dragons at once, but didn't. Isn't it much more epic and isn't Rhaenys's sacrifice (taking out one dragon in a fight against two) much more meaningful? In the show, it just looks like they had no ideas for the actual aerial dragon battle and replaced the majority of it with some double traps, plotting, friendly fire…

I think Aemond burning Aegon was also one of the dumbest things. It doesn’t make any sense that Aemond would kill his own brother considering that Aegon had nothing against Aemond or his strategies of war. Plus Sunfyre is not weak at all, in the books he puts a good fight against Meleys, yes, he was gonna lose in the end, thats why Aemond had to crash Vaghar againts them, but Sunfyre wasn't just bullied around like a chicken like in the show. Aegon was also part of the plan, and Rhaenys wasn't as stupid as in the show, coming back for certain death after Aegon was already down to stupidly lose the Black's best dragon. It's funny how the writers think making Rhaenyra and Alicent seemingly indifferent to their own children (and granchildren in Alicent's case) dying at the hands of their enemy makes them more noble or endearing. They're not. It's not relatable. There's no convincing motive for Alicent to go traitor. I feel like you'd need something a little heavier, like Aemond comes in one day and they have an argument, then he ends up smacking her around or something. I could believe something like that maybe, but even that still wouldn't be enough to sell out the whole of her family I don't think. It would still be more convincing than what we got though.

Because of the show runners, misguided direction and confusing, plot lines the pacing very much resembles a soap opera drama. this show demonstrates that forcing woke propaganda and relying on nostalgia to attract viewers doesn’t work. The writers seem to be trying to push a 'girl boss' narrative, but they fail to give the two female leads any consistent character development. By keeping them in a gray area, neither wholly good nor entirely bad, the story lacks direction, and no clear plot ever emerges.

He only seemed to give Adam and his brother attention cause of guilt of what Rhaenys told him. in the books I have heard he was FURIOUS with rhaenyra, telling her “it should have been you”. I don’t know if they think the actor isn’t that great of an actor so they work with his strengths or they just want him to be so unlikeable. but I do love the idea of him being hand of the queen. I love how he and rhaenyra bounce off of each other

So many terrible moments throughout this episode. So through all of daemon haunting he still wants the throne n the army for himself it aint until a witch gives him a vision then he is suddenly team rhaenyra…… Helena suddenly has control of her visions and can see ur brothers death but she cant see her own sons death….what? I refuse to believe this is the same alicent from season1 she genially is ok with rhaenyra killing her kids n still wants peace with her after daemon killed her grandson…..not to mention she gives away what aemond is planning so she is effectively giving a cheat code in the show….when in the book daemon was the one to secure kings landing through cunning….. a very mix episode for a very mixed season…… So many issues with this season because it completly misses the true story of the original book that neither side of each faction was completely good nor evil and they were both equally shitty teams......except this show when out of its way to change entire characters and events to help make rhaenyra look good. Rhaenyra's role was so slow, her character arc shows no trials or changes, her worst moments do not trigger changes in her decision making. It's stale. Daemon as well, having us for a whole season thinking the madness in Harrenhall would make him betray Rhaenyra, just to see him bend the knee in the last episode.

Not sure why we can't all be honest with ourselves and admit that Milly Alcock stole every scene she was in as Rhaenrya. The show went downhill as soon as the cast changed and we got stuck with dreadful Emma Darcy. It went downhill even more when we lost Paddy Considine. And people are wondering why this season isn't as good. Those are two of the main reasons (there are many others as well)

Game of thrones wasn't potraying lannisters as good and honorable as the starks , but at least they weren't biased to any side they displaying both sides as good as they are, but in hotd are blacks good guys , greens bad guys , and among the blacks male chracters bad Daemon is trying to betray his team Jace challenges his mother descions , while female characters are inherintly good , same with the green side they only give redeamable qualities to Alicent & Healena more than others , rest are just bad guys and those poor two good characters are in the wrong side , to the point that Alicent doesn't care about her sons , mocks them, doesn't support them in grief , sacrifises them they're nothing for her , and it seems Healena too learned to care less about her dead son from Alicent 😂😂

Why did Alicent betray Aegon? For the first time in nearly a decade, Aemond and his dragon are outmatched. The Blacks are likely to claim victory by fire and blood, executing all of Alicent's children in the process. She's trying to cut her family's losses by selling out Aegon, whose body is ruined forever and doomed to a life of suffering, in the view of his mother. She tries to bargain with Rhae in order to at least save Helaena, who she fears will die if sent to war by Aemond, and her granddaughter, who's innocent. She also cares about the people in her city; as a royal, she feels responsible for their wellbeing, and a violent takeover of KL would cause impressive amounts of damage and lives lost. What about Aemond and Daeron? She's already given up on Aemond after he burnt down innocents, and remember she still suspects him to be the one who caused Aegon's injuries. As for Daeron, he can still bend the knee and be pardoned by Rhaenyra. Do her actions in Episode 8 make her unlikeable? Maybe, but that doesn't mean they lack internal logic.

The second half of season 2 is the worst, sure, but the rest of the show is not much better. People want to believe this is a new GoT, with complex political intrigue and interesting characters. However, it's not. It's just a mediocre show, written by mediocre fans of the original. They have no idea how to develop characters, or a believable and consistent world around those characters. It looks good, the production is solid, but that's about it.

I think the first dumb decision was to change the appearance of all the Velaryons (Rheanys included). In the first season it was debatable but not anymore. I understand that a completely white cast is not great for diversity (in comparison GOT had Esteros and Dorne, if they didn't botched it) but it's such a fondamental element of a story about family, legitimacy and heritage. Honestly, if they wanted to change the race of a family, any other would have been less of a problem. And they could have done so much with it. Was the legitimacy of Rhaenyra's children put into question to discredit her claim by revisionnist maesters? Maybe it was an open secret or maybe it was more covert among close people/nobility/smallfolk? Maybe the kids looked convicing enough that people turned a blind eye and the Velaryons could bury their head in the sand? Or the Greens started the rumour to attack Rheanyra's character? Right now, it make the situation ridiculous. Rheanys and Corlys come out as weak and everyone involved seems stupider. I like the impact it has on Jace and his position with the dragonseeds but it's at the expense of every other characters. They could have changed plot points to make it less egregious, but their choices this season show a lack of foresight. Maybe it will get better in season 3 but rigth now it's the same problem as GOT : a reluctance to adapt the guidelines of the books which is the first thing people want.

Honestly it didn't let me down, I don't care if the season didn't end in a action climatic battle...I enjoyed it and can't wait for next season. Not every season finale to a tv series is gonna end in a dramatic fashion, seasons are only chapters to a series and not every chapter is going to be a cliffhanger. From what I'm witnessing is a slow build up to a war that will ultimately change the targaryen dynasty forever, I personally feel the series is done in a pace similar to that of a book...the slow burn only makes me hunger for more .

Actually this show isn’t going at a slow pace at all timeline wise. I mean the war lasted three years in the book but it’s going pretty fast like after rooks rest Aegon layed in his bed for the rest of the year, by the second year of the war the battle of the gullet took place, and my memory of the timeline is a bit fuzzy here but I believe rheanyra took kings landing late in the second year of the war when Aegon left kings-landing and Rhaenyra spent a couple months in kings landing and then abandoned it after the dragon pit fell and you know what happens next. But in the show Aegon leaves even before the battle of the gullet happens with this whole season taking place in like what? A Couple weeks? A month? I mean I guess it doesn’t matter how long this war lasts in the show it can last for a year for all we care the writers can decide that but don’t be surprised by next season if the pacing feels like it’s going faster then a cheetah

To me alicent makes sense to me and her actresses does well displaying how lost the character is and all the emotions flying and not being able to trust whom she thought she could in positions of power betrayed her she took time alone and came to conclusions she couldn't of either wise gotten if not for her time alone in the woods and again her actress really does a nice job but then here lies the issue with season 2 the actress for rhaenyra sucks some of her expressions to things and the way she acts really brings the show down in my opinion Everytime I watch her act I'm like damn I miss Emilia clark so much even when she had to play a shy timid role she still cleaned up better than this rhaenyra actress and I get the pacing was off but its definitely a combination of shitty acting and pacing not just pacing and not just rhaenyras actress's acting it's both.

sure. for example, just the way he said that line: "he dares to summon me?! ME?!!" i like his acting in this show, but that line, oof i hate it. 😂 but fr, the general shift from being calculating, keeping his thoughts to himself, slowly climbing up the ladder - to suddenly being so drunk on power he just goes on a rampage and becomes completely oblivious to everything. i don't mind the idea of this, it just wasn't executed well imo. too sudden, too rushed.
