Mad props for Hickman for literally evolving the X-men story and for referencing a lot of their history. It shows that he cares for the series when he puts in so much work and detail and world building into it. I have that Inferno issue between Jean and Storm and damn I barely remember that. That's a misinterpretation that there's a cost to Charles whenever he brings someone back. What he's saying is a part of him dies when they die. He isn't referencing the cost of bringing them back, but the love a parent has for their children. There's grief involved with seeing your children die, even if you know you can bring them back. He's saying, he isn't immune to the grieving process and doesn't enjoy watching his children die.

Yeah, that birthing scene from the 1st issue had to pay off down the road, but what made me sure it was going to happen was how sudden the deaths happened of such major mutants as Cyke, Wolvie and Jean so soon after resurrection events for each of them just wrapped up. What was fulfilling to see was how they brought a combination of mutant powers together to affect these resurrections. My thought was that Moira's ability would factor in somehow but this is even more interesting: using a mix of historic and D list mutants for something awesome. I'm waiting suspiciously for a reveal that Mystique didn't die in space though. I think they may have presumed her death too soon, and her getting 'lost' on the station may be for a reason. (Maybe she acquired some telepathy blocking tech from Orchis, allowed her "death" knowing the others would still complete the mission, then plans to run her own scheme behind their backs while her back up, soulless clone is mistaken as the authentic her in Krakoa). Hmmm, maybe she's the RED HEAD who died that the Sinister Secrets refer to while we assume they mean Jean.

This is literally the greatest X-Story I have ever read. All in my feels: Man the X MEN actually won. For once. No dark future, no more death and sacrifice. At least for the time being they get a huge "W". If You ever thought of the Xmen as an analogy for the History of people of Color in the U.S.....shoot across the whole world....then imagine if this was US. You mentioned Evolution (fitting, since it's the X-Men), but that handshake at the end of the story reminded me of what Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage did back in the 1980s. Mega Powers shaking hands: "Whoa! That's awesome! No other handshake -- short of that "Predator" handshake -- will be that epic." Apocalypse and Professor X shake hands: "Whoa. I stand corrected."

Hickman is THE G.O.AT. ! Just last Friday I was saying to my son that I was happy Gold Balls was not anywhere to be found in the story because he was absolutely useless. Jonathan Hickman brings Gold Balls into the story and lifts up what I thought was a useless charecter and makes him an MVP!! I'm wowed. My prayer is that this level of amazing story telling continues in the X books that will follow Powers of X and House of X when the two series conclude.

With the publication of issue 1 of this story, I noticed a trend in terms of the veritable onslaught of KZbin HOX/POX reviews that have followed the initial read. Where the public is concerned, that is. "I'm getting a creepy vibe from Xavier. He doesn't act like Xavier. He's too proactive. He's not peaceful enough." "The X-Men are exhibiting cult-like/radical behavior." "They're too POWERFUL to be left unchecked." "Opposing viewpoints are needed to balance out the mutant situation." "The X-Men are villains now." Because why would he see fit to change approaches that haven't worked for decades? I'm a forty year-old African American man who grew up in North Carolina in the 80s and 90s. My ancestors were enslaved, raped, tortured, murdered, starved, experimented upon, imprisoned, forcefully impoverished, shrewdly deprived of education, and cruelly humiliated beyond measure for hundreds of years. HUNDREDS of years. My people are still unlawfully charged and imprisoned, economically, socially, and politically ostracized, manipulated, mercilessly railroaded, and routinely murdered. Shot and choked and clubbed to death like rabid, rampaging beasts for no reason beyond skin color, or the audacity to speak up and out against absolute horse shit treatment. My point is I fully understand EVERYTHING the X-Men are doing. They are displaying self-preservation tactics, behavior, and intelligence, and who in his or her right mind could possibly blame them...unless he or she watches from a privileged, biased, positively SAFE perspective? Who wouldn't be willing to do ANYTHING possible to save one's mother, father, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters, friends/loved ones from the monstrous treatment forced upon oneself, or upon one's ancestors? Who wants such unyielding terror visited upon one's descendants? Who wouldn't go to whatever lengths necessary in order to prevent the horrific victimization and wholesale slaughter of one's people at the hands of happily ignorant, savage, mean-spirited, perpetually terrified assholes? How long are victims expected to remain victims? How much shit and bile and hate and persecution are the downtrodden supposed to eat? How long are marginalized people to lick the boots of ETERNALLY vile, utterly unsatisfied persecutors? Hickman and co. are doing a lovely, bang-up job with this story. They're illustrating far, far more than a fictitious account of UNLIMITED persecution, and the consequences of such incontrovertibly EVIL behavior. They are laying down a story of strength, determination, brilliance, and perseverance. Anyone who can't understand this has never experienced ACTUAL, PERPETUAL, REAL-LIFE, systematic persecution, and, as such, will never understand. Anyone who responds, "You're diving a little deep, guy. It's only a comic book" has completely missed the point of the overall cautionary tale being told via this lovely collection of characters, locales, and ideologies. I applaud what these creators are doing. This isn't just a silly four-color story. It isn't. I'm with the X-Men. All the way. Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.

I’m getting tired of mutants in the marvel universe being considered their own species. Evolution doesn’t work that way. If 2 mutants can produce a non mutant and a mutant can mate with humans and produce offspring, then they aren’t a species. Calling the X-Men a new species is like saying people who are not lactose intolerant are a new species because of a specific genetic mutation. By that standard, all mutates are not human as well as the inhumans. The only time marvel gets this right is with the people of Atlantis, because it’s hard for them to mate with humans and produce offspring. Just a pet peeve of mine.

So far your the only one not to gloss over this monumental note about Synch and his resurrection. Storm looks amazing and is a boss in this issue. My favorite part is when the villains came in the and there is Selene. That's my girl. Apocalypse comes out humble and appreciative to be apart of the X-men. Three HUGE plot holes. 1.Cyclops shouldn't need his visor in a new body. He didn't have control of his powers because of Brain damage.A clone body shouldn't have that problem. 2. Wolverine. His adamantium skeleton and claws aren't natural. A clone wouldn't have them, and adamantium isn't naturally occurring, nor cheap. 3.Mr Sinister ISN'T a mutant.Never has been. He's a MUTATE.He's also not vulnerable to bullets or claws or swords.Only thing that ever hurt him was Cyclops optic blasts.

I only have 2 problems with the whole thing. 1. How can Logan be reborn with Adamantium? He should back to his natural bones and even faster healing factor. I had this issue when was killed in an X-Men annual drawn by Alan Davis, when Logan was recreated by a powerful energy source (a Gem) and just a drop of blood. 2. Same goes for Scott. He should be reborn with a new brain, minus the damaged part the controlled his powers. The visor should just be for show and directions now.

If i copy your body and copy your mind are you...you or a copy of you? The conversation between nightcrawler and wolverine (during mothermold assault) would seem to hint at the fact that even the x-men realize they are just copies. And storm wouldn't have to reassure the rest of Krakoa these clones were the same people if they didn't know themselves that these are copies.

I completely understand how the resurrection process works in this book, but Marvel has established that the characters in its Comics have souls. So it makes perfect sense that with their minds restored to the husk for all intents and purposes the individual is back. However, since they are more of a perfect clone and not an actual resurrection of the individual, what happened to their souls?

Ok. Clones with old memories, got it. Really lame IMO because self explanatory. The only problem with this is, Logan and Angel weren’t born with their mods so they’d have to do thru those procedures again to get said mods, adamantium covered bones and razor wings. It’s fun to think that the cloning process would be in a neat little package, but it’s not. I love your work btw, great stuff!

I think I’d laugh my f@cking ass off if, after doing ALL the footwork and snatching codices from around the globe, Carnage finally meets Knull. Knull bodies Carnage, rips HIS spine out, and takes all that mother-f@cking power for himself. If he came to the Earth and started droppin’ symbiotes on all the mutants on Krakoa, all non-mutants, and makes himself a straight up army. Would that be classified as an “extinction level event?” Aaaaand lastly (yes I’m spitballin’ here), if Sinister could clone The Five, would he be able to remake any mutant he wanted? Xavier did give Sinister his and Magneto’s DNA, so he might be able to clone the Professor so that he could reprogram new clones. He does have his own island already, and enough clones of himself to make it happen. So maybe we could see Krakoa vs Sinister Isle for the mutant vs Sinister Clone Heavyweight Championship Belt?!? Claremont & Hickman are my 2 fav "X-writers". If they teamed up, it'd be the most epic "X-Tale" ever told. I loved how Hickman showed how Storm, Jean & Cyclops should really act, as well as how they should interact w/ each other. While I liked Synch when I was a kid reading GenX in the 90s, Monet was always my fav team member. It was really good to see how Hickman showed how M would really act, too. Emma's my fav X-man & I love how HIckman used her psychic shrewdness in a way only she can. Plus the Professor pointing out Emma's uniqueness as a telepath was interesting (that's probably why her DNA was harvested by Weapon Plus to create Weapon XIV).

They should resurrect Rapture. She was an amalgam of Mystique, Angel, and Nightcrawler. Her resemblance to Mystique mixed with her life as a nun (similar time Nightcrawler’s priesthood) should make her an interesting character when teamed up with both of them. Possibly even a distant relative.
