I was 12 yo when I watched for the first time and really left a mark on me, hadn't watched Jacob's ladder by the time, so the effect of the ghosts were fresh and scary to me. Sound design is amazing too, you can hear random grunts, laughts, twitches and all freaky sounds in the background, the whole time. The imagery and the freaking Vanacutt walk were a new level of scary for me back then, ghost today are lame, this one is vicious, graphic and crazy. Thank you for unlocking great memories.

The Vincent Price omage was unintentional. If I remember the DVD commentary and bonus features correctly, Rush put on the mustache/costume and his own version of Vincent Price came through. The production then changed the name of the character. This, 13 Ghosts and Ghost Ship were all early projects/remakes of William Castle films that kicked off Dark Castle productions. I believe William Castle's daughter may have been involved in the company. William Castle was big on gimmicks and stunts in the theatre. In the original HOHH, when a skeleton emerges from a vat of acid, the ushers would fly a skeleton over the audience on a pulley system. You can see that referenced in the beginning of Scream 2 with the Ghostface dummies flying over the theater. Sometimes seats would shock the audience, sometimes the audience would need to sign a death waver before going into the theatre. This remake really captures the demonic fun house vibes of those gimmicks. It's such a fun amusement park ride to watch.

1999 was an insane year for movies. Ah, right, when i saw the title I thought it was the other 1999 movie The Haunting, based on The Haunting of Hill House, upon which the recent(is) Netflix series was based, and neither which has anything to do with of course The House on Haunted Hill. 1999 was indeed a crazy year for movies. So like Armageddon and Deep impact the year before in 1998. Oh, and Chris Kattan's performance reminds me of an older, earlier Ezra Miller somehow. Their faces just, I don't know, do the same, similar mannerisms.

It’s been over two decades since I watched this movie, and it’s difficult to tell in the YT edited video, but I remember there being a mid-credits scene wherein Price and his wife (or their ghosts?) are tormented by the Psycho Doctor and his staff in the operating room - supposedly for all eternity. Considering that “The House” invited the descendants of the 5 survivors of the 1930s massacre, the implication was that CG Black Ooze Creature was the gestalt evil spirits of the criminally insane inmates who died, and they wanted to finish the job. However, the Psycho Doctor and other staff members were clearly also haunting the place, so I don’t understand why in the mid-credits scene they were shown tormenting Price and his wife after they were devoured by the CG Ooze Creature, instead of being attacked by the mob of inmates. But I don’t think the movie is supposed to make sense - it’s just a hacky horror movie with some decent jump scares and a few gimmicky twists. It’s not the worst horror movie ever but definitely not a classic. If you want to watch a better horror movie starring Famke Janssen I recommend Deep Rising (1998).

16:21 The scene is downright funny for so many reasons. #1 The Sig Sauer P228 has a plastic frame so how would you even begin to "weld" the magazine into it. #2 Just like any semi automatic you can still eject and load the shells manually. Not a single one of them knows how to do that to tell if it's loaded with blanks or live rounds. #3 The weight of the gun especially with a plastic frame lets you know if it's loaded or not. #4 The P228 has a "round indicator" showing if the chamber is loaded but it's true this wouldn't reveal if it was loaded with blanks, and also this was offered as standard by Sig Sauer on the P228 in 1999, it has to be added later so these guys likely wouldn't have a round indicator in 1999.

Whoo! As a kid, this was the movie that introduced me to two of my favourite actors, Jeffrey and Geoffrey! And by extension, it also introduced me to Marilyn Manson, Eurythmics and Vincent Price! Fun memories. Real love/hate relationship with this movie, as it both terrified and delighted me! Absolutely my favourite of the Dark Castle remakes. Skip the sequel. It's not worth it. The original with Vincent Price is great, too! It is also different enough to be a completely different experience from the remake!

Or "Session 9", which takes place in the actual Danvers State Hospital in Massachusetts. Very creepy.
