Yeah, I'm not so sure they thought that through all the way to the end. It seems like they intend it to be as about as happy an ending as can be after what happened but, I mean, the reason Seth is going where he's going is because they can stretch that money in Mexico along with everyone else that's holding up down there since it seems this is a pretty standard situation for criminal types. So he surely realises the very small amount of money he gives her will maybe last her a few weeks as she tries to get her life back together. Then she's homeless. And her family is dead. I saw this while deployed to Okinawa in '96 and we had NO IDEA wtf it was about. We had Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction on repeat in almost every room with a VCR (yes, old school, I know) so we were TOTALLY jazzed to see a "Tarantino" film coming. We got in the base theater, stood for the National Anthem and sat down for a cool gangster flick. All of us had the same face when Salma Hayek's face turned. Talk about taking a left turn. We all walked out of the theater laughing our asses off because nowhere else would we have been able to see it like that with NO spoilers. Great flick. Great reaction from "the Mrs."

The Clooney character is a jerk but I always saw him more as: crime is his job and he has to do things to accomplish a goal so he has to be harsh about it cause he has no other choices. He has to control his psycho brother, he has to take hostages, he has to cross the border and go to a place and keep things under control until his friend show up. All stressful and he has to be forceful so that everything goes well to get the job done. And when the vampires appear, it's that attitude that he has that keeps them alive. You see his real character at the end when the girl is like "do you want some company?" and he's like "I may be a jerk but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I bought you to that place", even though he probably liked to get to know her better.

I saw this in the theater when it first came out. I had never heard of it and was blown away when it turned into a vampire movie.

For his first movie...George clooney was effen amzing in this. He showed why he was and is a fantastic leading actor. To go from a medical drama to a vampire horror film but he landed it in spades

the guy who played the sheriff was also a sheriff and a pimp in the "Kill Bill" movies. (he also was in a show called "Then Came Bronson" but that was centuries ago.)

El Rey is a reference to a famous Jim Thompson novel. Both versions of The Getaway are based on that book. If you guys check those out, you’ll see some definite Tarantino “inspiration” for this script.

When this first came out, I was living in a small town. My brothers and I watched it in the theater. We didn’t get to see the last five minutes of the movie because the reel literally caught fire. The theater had to be evacuated. We asked the manager if we would be able to come back to watch the ending. He said that was the only copy of the film and refused to refund our tickets. We had to wait for it to come out on vhs to see the ending…the wait was well worth it. Such a great movie.
