This video shows progress so far and my thoughts to go along with it on things we've done, doing and will do soon. This will be a multi-part video, with about 40 minutes of total footage......so maybe 4 or 5 parts. Thanks for watching.

Wow. You are getting so good at this for being self taught. You can easily explain how to do things in either a reno or a new build so others can understand the process.

Something tells me that you have a good background in electrical work. I look at the wiring how neat it is and your description of things is right on. Cheers!

Mike 60 Not really, but I just made sure I did a neat job. I've added receptacles, replaced switches, etc. But never rewired a whole house. Also had to upgrade service which required running all new service wires, meter base, disconnect, main panel and sub panel..........it was a lot to do, but I liked it.

We wear the same watch band. The Band. I found a bunch of them on Ebay and snatched them up. Got enough to last me for years. Lol

For tubs i take 1" sheet styrofoam and glue it to 3/4" plywood and put it ontop of the tub to keep crap out of it. Does a great job of stopping any damage.

1timby Indeed it will be close, but that's a small house.......although I could have framed the closet a little smaller. I can always tear it out and re frame it if I don't like it. Thanks for watching.

r peffer I have a pretty varied life, regardless, I like working on the house.....although it does take a long time. But most people have jobs they go to every day for years on end, that would be much more stressful for me than anything I do. I'm over at this house on my own listening to the radio and thinking about future projects....... it's not bad at all.

+Homemade Home Yes.. that is the way it should be! You are doing what you love and hopefully the payout when you finish will be worth all your effort. Documenting it as you are is fantastic and with all the aspects of such a huge project you are basically doing a multitude of jobs. The varying alone trumps any monotonous office job!

Your electric work looks fantastic. It might be a little overdone having each room on its own circuit...you're a man after my own heart. Something to think about though for future houses. I like to put all the lights in the house on their own circuit[s], and then put the outlets on separate circuits (generally you can get 2-3 rooms worth on a single 15amp). This way you don't get the dimming lights when you use a vacuum or some other power sucking appliance. Of course though, to each there own. Either way works with code as long as the circuit is not overloaded.

With rentals I like to keep the wiring as simple as possible, for tenants or me, I like to just flip the breaker for a room and know everything is dead. I also like wiring with 12/2 wire on everything, you never know what a tenant will do. They may end up plugging a space heater into a light socket on the ceiling with an adapter! I've shown up to one of my houses and found extension chords melted and still in use from how much stuff people plugin. People will be sitting there with the windows cracked, multiple space heaters, TVs, etc all on those small brown two-prong extension chords, the kind meant for one lamp.

Homemade Home Wowzers! Insane what some people will do with extension cords. But, like I said, to each there own. Either way works great, it's just a matter of personal preference. Figured I'd share that in case you hadn't considered it. Love watching your videos. Renos like this was something I had tried to talk may into doing with me years ago...she wasn't digging it. We still do renos, but not this intense.

The fan habit is hard to break. Have you considered putting the fan on a timer switch? Go in for the shower, set the timer switch, and then you can forget about it.
@homemadehome5575
@homemadehome5575 10 жыл бұрын
Dan Mills I haven't considered a timer, I'm pretty good about the fan. I'd say the biggest thing is not letting it run too long, but someone not turning it on at all. That's the advantage of wiring the light and fan onto the same switch.... like a public bathroom. Thanks for watching.

Well done HC, this project must really be taking up an inordinate amount of your, has it affected your furniture making business. I assume an astute chap like you had factored in the time required and didn't take on big projects while you're at this one. Thank you for sharing.
