I remember how relatable this was when it aired b/c TV's were super expensive, but was also hilarious because of the way Michael built it up. At the time, a plasma TV of that size would have been about $800-1,000. A nice big 50" would have been about $2,500. TV's were crazy expensive compared to today, but a big screen was definitely attainable for someone like Michael, even though it would have been a "big purchase." This was literally right at the brink of the extinction of plasma screens and the plummet in the price of LCD TV's. By the following year, you couldn't find many plasma screen TV's in store, and 50" LCD TV's were down to $1,000 from around $1,800 the previous year. Nice little time warp watching this clip.

Does anyone remember when Jan and Michael go to Dave Wallace’s party as a couple for the first time and Jan is all stressed out and Michael (I think it’s Michael) tells her to smell a candle while they’re there? I’ve always wondered if that was deliberate foreshadowing or just a coincidence. She didn’t seem all that interested in the candle when asked to smell it but then later the candles become her thing and she smells them to relieve stress. 🤣
