vocal right at "did someone do somebody wrong?" just blows me away.

I've tried to explain many times to people who only listen to chart music and watch talent shows that the best singers in music often can't sing to save their lives. I believe it's about putting genuine felling and emotion into your performance, not whether you can hit all the notes perfectly. Tom's singing voice sends shivers up my spine.

He's got a very distinctive delivery, but people don't often notice just how consistently on pitch he sings, across a pretty wide range of highs and lows, and at a volume level from a near-whisper to full-on shouting like a carnival barker from Hell. So much of the precision and technique of a good singer is here; that's why he sounds better, in a lot of cases, than singers who have a smoother or clearer voice, but not much else going for them.
@bdcsluper6 жыл бұрын
thank you @@LukeMaynard it appears Le Diabolique is missing the forest for the trees. and Tom's early stuff shows he was quite capable of singing in what you call a 'clearer' or a smoother' voice. I know people who knew him back in the Early Days in West Hollywood

Tom Waits actually has an amazing range, he just uses it in very specific way, he's a very very talented singer

There's a house on my block that's abandoned and cold The folks moved out of it a long time ago And they took all their things and they never came back It looks like it's haunted with the windows all cracked Everyone calls it the house The house where nobody lives Once it held laughter Once it held dreams, did they throw it away, did they know what it means? Did someone's heart break Or did someone do somebody wrong? Well, the paint is all cracked, it was peeled off of the wood The papers were stacked on the porch where I stood And the weeds had grown up just as high as the door There were birds in the chimney and an old chest of drawers Looks like no one will ever come back To the house where nobody lives Oh, and once it held laughter Once it held dreams, did they throw it away, did they know what it means? Did someone's heart break Or did someone do somebody wrong? So if you find someone Someone to have, someone to hold, don't trade it for silver Oh, don't trade it for gold 'Cause I have all of life's treasures and they're fine and they're good They remind me that houses are just made of wood What makes a house grand, oh, it ain't the roof or the doors, If there's love in a house, it's a palace for sure. But without love it ain't nothin' but a house A house where nobody lives But without love It ain't nothin' but a house, a house where nobody lives

I have written something based on the song, to see if you like THE EMPTY HOUSE In my town there is a house that looks empty No one clean herbal the input Or pruning the old apple tree that gives more pain than fruit But every afternoon, always at five, the door opens And the couple of bent elders comes out smelling of tobacco and alcohol What happened with your laughter and your dreams? When they broke their hearts? From my window, I see them pass The old yellow hat and a cookie for Sam Twenty years crying to the girl's dead, It came to thirty. Beautiful as the queen of hearts His smile shut off in a second. And the icy wind stayed forever Who did something wrong? There is always someone to blame I see them pass, each time slower and the hair more white Always at five, the hour of death. The hour in which they die the bullfighters and the queens Still have not cleaned up the entry and pruned the apple tree, But on the headstone, the beautiful plants around you know who is there Some day, they will not come back and the house will continue to empty And our hearts will know that they are where they always wanted to I will look for your old hat and I will buy cookies for Sam And the bells will ring in silence Respecting the meeting, and the infinite embrace. From my window, I see them pass The old yellow hat and a cookie for Sam. Tradutor de ingles a Portugues? Tradutor ingles portugues Traductor de ingles a español

agree, tobacco and alcohol are not good, but without them there would be no voice like it, unique and wonderful. that, and the madness, make Tom a genius and that is a good thing.
