I actually own and care for two horses, they actually take pride in work like this, and often they enjoy it as well. It could be compared to taking your dog for a hike down a mountain trail, or a sheep herding dog herding sheep. First let me say this, it is not that hard to ride one handed. I know that some here have said that it is, it really isn't, people do it every day all day. Secondly when the horse tried to stop his feet slip up under him, he struggled to catch his balance. Had the rider let off of the reins and given him his head the horse may have been better able to get his balance and therefore not fallen completely.

He doesn’t look happy in his mouth. The perspective of an ordinary horsewoman who isn’t anti-bit!
@catarinamaria52433 жыл бұрын
spellywelly im not ani bit, for me it’s what’s best for the horse. Some horses don’t like pressure in their nose and some don’t like pressure on their mouths. However, the Calvary is different. They are working horses who for example go out on the streets which can be dangerous, it’s better to have the extra security from the bit. Anyway the horse slipped, it could have happened to the other horses too. It’s bad footing. Not because of the bit.
@spellywelly3 жыл бұрын
@@catarinamaria5243 I agree with you. I think the biggest problem the cavalry would have is if it doesn’t have individual mouthpieces for the ceremonial bit, but I’m imagining nowadays that it must do. There’s no denying the shanks are quite hefty leverage but the natural compliment to that is educated hands...and I’m also imagining that any horse that had strong objections to being bitted wouldn’t make the cut and would be re-employed elsewhere! However, in this case I DO see a horse that is uncomfortable in its mouth, overreacts to bit pressure and slips on the slippy ground. That isn’t taking an evangelical swipe at the cavalry. It happens and in lower pressure circumstances than this. But it is what I see!

Somehow I ‘knew’ it was going to be the grey at the front. Hope both horse & rider were fine: the ‘dismounted’ horse had been standing quietly, only spooking all over his fallen male companion [sic] because of the ‘brown’s’ rider less-than-bright urge to get involved & grabbed the reins.

That's exactly what I thought. The guy riding up and grabbing the white horse, who was standing there calmly, was the embarrassing part.

And that is why you are careful stopping a horse on grass and more so on wet grass. He needed corks or a more careful rider. A simple slip like that can cause serious injury to a horse, curbs, pulled muscles could of been more serious. feel bad for the guy, bet he got a lot of ribbing from his friends.

Every time I see such beautiful horses I remember the millions of cans of horse meat that the Vigo brand sold as dog food in the 1950s. Surely no thoroughbreds were included.
