Absolutely. When I lived in England and was taking riding lessons, my horse slipped and fell on top of me. We landed in a big mud puddle. There were no injuries to either one of us, except for my pride with a severe case of utter embarrassment. I looked like I had just crawled out of a swamp.

I actually own and care for two horses, they actually take pride in work like this, and often they enjoy it as well. It could be compared to taking your dog for a hike down a mountain trail, or a sheep herding dog herding sheep. To a well cared for horse, in-shape humans don't weigh much at all, it would be like carrying a small hydration backpack on your back while jogging, or possibly a school bag walking to school.

Once a horse that size starts slipping not a real lot the rider can do, burdened with all the restrictive gear they carry, it would be extremely difficult to come off looking gracefull. Top marks to both rider and horse and to the others for retaining position and collection, when one horse is in any sort of distress, the others can panic, as any rider can attest!

Horse was always holding his (or her) head to high... reins to tight and held too high. A slight tug to bring the horse to a stop was always going to result in the horse being unbalanced.... and of course the wet grass under foot didn't help
@amandabilger2235
@amandabilger2235 4 жыл бұрын
First let me say this, it is not that hard to ride one handed. I know that some here have said that it is, it really isn't, people do it every day all day. Secondly when the horse tried to stop his feet slip up under him, he struggled to catch his balance. Had the rider let off of the reins and given him his head the horse may have been better able to get his balance and therefore not fallen completely.

spellywelly im not ani bit, for me it’s what’s best for the horse. Some horses don’t like pressure in their nose and some don’t like pressure on their mouths. However, the Calvary is different. They are working horses who for example go out on the streets which can be dangerous, it’s better to have the extra security from the bit. Anyway the horse slipped, it could have happened to the other horses too. It’s bad footing. Not because of the bit.
@spellywelly
@spellywelly 3 жыл бұрын
@@catarinamaria5243 I agree with you. I think the biggest problem the cavalry would have is if it doesn’t have individual mouthpieces for the ceremonial bit, but I’m imagining nowadays that it must do. There’s no denying the shanks are quite hefty leverage but the natural compliment to that is educated hands...and I’m also imagining that any horse that had strong objections to being bitted wouldn’t make the cut and would be re-employed elsewhere! However, in this case I DO see a horse that is uncomfortable in its mouth, overreacts to bit pressure and slips on the slippy ground. That isn’t taking an evangelical swipe at the cavalry. It happens and in lower pressure circumstances than this. But it is what I see!

This was an unfortunate fall but I don't see the horse actively trying to avoid falling on anyone. He just took his fall and this is where he landed. It was a surprising fall as I have ridden many horses who slid on uneven or slippery surfaces and this did not happen. If I could clear up exactly what happened. Yes the commanding officers trumpeter dismounted from his Grey when it slipped on mud. I was the Squadron LEader in the background who also had a trumpeter on a Grey horse....well, when the CO horse fell over, I told my trumpeter to fall in with the CO. All was well, until my trumpeter (who was a spur man training that grey) then informed me after the parade that he could not play the trumpet, luckily on the way back into barracks, a switched on musician played the regimental return as we passed the ceremonial gate....fun times.😅😅😂😂

The horse was smeared with mud where it fell ... that indicates that it fell into an almost swamp ...

London Parks {and London gardens generally} are on quite clayey soil...and it doesn't drain easily. Gets very slippery. A lot of Parks in and around have riding tracks specifically to stop the ground turning into a quagmire.

Except the horse guards did very little against Napoleon, only serving at waterloo under Uxbridge and getting badly mauled by the superior french cavalry. If you want to see some truly inspiring sights, i’d recommend watching the charge practice of the cavalry regiment of the french republican guards. I’ve witnessed it myself, nothing quite like 500 men of horses charging at you with sabers drawn.

At first I thought the horse did this on purpose to get the rider off. I thought what an interesting way to get a rider off, lowering him to the ground and rolling him off. For some reason, I felt I wanted to watch it several times, since I wasn't really sure what happened. After watching it a few more times, I realized the horse had slipped. I noticed even the first few times I watched it, the horse did not roll on top of the rider, thankfully.

One day, a boy and his best friend were telling jokes to one another. They were having fun. These boys were some of the nicest kids and would never say a dirty joke. One of the boys says "Hey you want to hear this dirty joke. I heard it from my brother" The other boy was curious so he agreed and said yes. "Ok then. A horse fell into a mud puddle

Somehow I ‘knew’ it was going to be the grey at the front. Hope both horse & rider were fine: the ‘dismounted’ horse had been standing quietly, only spooking all over his fallen male companion [sic] because of the ‘brown’s’ rider less-than-bright urge to get involved & grabbed the reins.

And that is why you are careful stopping a horse on grass and more so on wet grass. He needed corks or a more careful rider. A simple slip like that can cause serious injury to a horse, curbs, pulled muscles could of been more serious. feel bad for the guy, bet he got a lot of ribbing from his friends.
