This is a classic example of a man standing in the middle of the road. When a bystander tries to move him away from the cars, the man says “my religion will save me no thanks.” In reality his religion very well could’ve been working through the bystander. God cannot help you if you refuse everything he’s offering

This reminds me of a story where a guy dies in a flood, thinking God would save him and refusing help whenever a Coast Guard boat came to pick him up. When he drowned and went to heaven, he asked God why He didn't save him. God was like, "bruh, I sent three different rescue boats to come pick you up and you didn't board any of them. Not my fault."

Dude acting as this patient must've been super difficult. Props to the guy for pulling it off: you need to be clearly/visibly happy, but you also need to put clear fear/misery into the way you talk. The ending scene with his daughter would be extra tricky, trying to balance smiling and happiness with obvious dread and sadness.

@jessiehogue.
@jessiehogue. 22 күн бұрын
There's a good reason the horror movie 'Smile' is so freaking terrifying. A smile is supposed to be pure, conveying joy, happiness and cheerfulness. When it is only surface level and covering the exact opposite or other negative emotions, it becomes some sort of unnatural, unsettling, twisted parody of that expectation. Same goes for children being cute, funny and pure. Kids in horror movies are MUCH scarier than adults for that same reason. Horror goes 10x worse when it's from something that's supposed to be the exact opposite.

House has to be the best of medical dramas ever as Hugh Laurie is a phenomenal actor and his supporting cast meshed beautifully the entire series. I still cannot make up my mind if I hated or loved Dr. House and the ending was awesome as I had mixed feelings of his getting away with faking his death and I still can't make up my mind to this day!!!! Seeing Laurie's career from working with Stephen Fry in Bertie & Wooster and Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder in comedic roles he still managed to play the anti-hero in House. I don't plan to binge watch the series again but I am so grateful for these clips as they jog my memory of some of the best episodes. I don't know if he'll get another successful series but his playing the villains in a couple movies he's been in shows he'll dominate the acting niche for the rest of his career.

His reaction to pain when Masters is talking to him is like we react when we work in retail or costumer service: constantly in pain and suffering, but being forced to smile
@outsidersview9827
@outsidersview9827 Жыл бұрын
His situation reminds me of this quote, "A man gets lost at sea, he floats for hours and finally a boat passes by. When they come to offer him help, he denies them saying that his god will save him. Another boat comes by and he denies help again because god will save him. A 3rd boat comes and tries to help him, he denies them and says god will save him. The man drowns and goes to heaven, when he gets there he asks god why he let him drown. God looks confused and says that he sent 3 boats to save him."

I prefer the guy whose town was flooded, the firefighters arrived to evacuate everyone and the guy said "No, God will save me", the firefighters evacuated everyone and left, the flood came and the water rose, the man was on the first floor of his house when a lifeboat crew came by to rescue him, the guy hanging out of his bedroom window said "No, God will save me", the waters continued to rise and the guy climbed up on his roof and a bunch of his neighbours came in a boat and pleaded with him to come with them, again he said "No, I believe that God will save me", as the sun gets low in the sky and the guy is clinging to his chimney when a helicopter arrives and blasted by the downdraft the guy shouts "No, I believe, God will save me". The guy is washed away and dies, gets to heaven and says to God "Why did you forsake me? I believed you would save me." and God replies "I sent two boats and a helicopter, what more do you want?"

I didn't hate her, but I didn't particularly enjoy her, either. She was a poorly-conceived and poorly-written character (the Hollywood Genius trope with added ridiculous levels of moral rigidity) played by a good actress. The exact opposite of Park, actually, who was an interesting character as conceived but played by an abysmal actress.

I would argue that faith is, in itself, a sign of mental illness. But even if we don't go down that road, it's pretty clear that anyone "making a deal with god" is delusional. There's absolutely no rational basis on which to base something like that. BY DEFINITION it is irrational, illogical, and delusional.

It reminds me of a family friend. Her labour was very complicated. Afterwards, there was a chance of her baby dying. The mother was praying to her god, promising to reject alcohol and sweets. Her son is now married and she herself hasn't drunk or eaten sugar since 34 years. I absolutely don't believe in God's intervention. It's very depressive that such being would just wait in the clouds to make a deal but I never thought about the mother badly and I'm actually impressed with her conviction.

So she doesn’t eat fruits or vegetables either? Some veggies contain sucrose (the same type as cane, processed, sugar) and some contain fructose and glucose. Also does she drink milk? Lactose is a sugar. Honey, agave, maple syrup…all sugar also. She’s either only doing it halfway or she’s malnourished (fruits and veggies are necessary dietary components).

God isn’t “waiting in the clouds to make a deal” bro. Humans are proud and fallen creatures, like the w prodigal son. God never abandons us but waits for us to come to Him in our own time. He’s not forcing anyone to come to him, bc that’s not how faith works: it’s about a relationship with God. But thank you for sharing that story, happy to hear everyone is thriving 👌

My understanding of Christianity would lend me to interpret that it wasn't that her deity did this for her as a bargain but that this was a bargain she made with it. If her baby living was part of the deity's design, she would live more spiritually, if not, then maybe she wouldn't.

The studies regarding the efficacy of prayer to aid recovery actually showed the opposite. Prayer did only have a significant effect on those who knew they were being prayed for, yes, but that effect was fairly uniformly negative. The research seems to suggest that people tend to stress out over whether the prayer is helping, ultimately leading to worsening prognosis.
