Hi Fern! You should clip the vine with the peduncle up like it’s climbing. I untrellised my krimson princess, she was so tangled I didn’t see the peduncles. I left them trailing and they didn’t budge. As soon as I clipped them up they budded up. I also spray my peduncles with the DIY orchid mist/bloom booster. You are my fave planty person on KZbin! Thank you for sharing!

How do you make the DIY spray please?
@janebrewer93262 жыл бұрын
@@veronikajanikova7960 Fern has a video a few back on how to make it. I use miracle grow bloom booster and mix it per the package (like a tsp per gal I think) and pour it into a spray bottle. 1:38 Not always. As with everything involving plants, you can have too much of a good thing. The tropical plants we have in our homes are naturally use to high humidity and low breezes, so placing a fan next to all your plants can actually be bad for them. The reason for this is you end up disturbing the plants natural transpiration, which can cause stunned growth (fan stress) and in worse cases cause the leaf edges to curl and brown (wind burn). This is even more true in the colder months where transpiration occurs less often, or if you have an AC in the room that always runs colder air. Plants really don't need a lot of air circulation. In most cases simply opening your front door when you leave/come home every day, or the natural breeze that comes from the outside wind blowing through the small cracks in your closed windows, is enough to circulate the airflow of your plants. Even walking past your plants on a daily basis will cause air circulation. However, if your plants are placed in a windowless room that always have the door closed (like a greenhouse), you do need to think about getting a fan. When using a fan it's important to remember that you can't see the air, meaning it's very easy to overdo it. Ideally you want to aim for less than 2 mph wind, which is very low. In comparison, an average ceiling fan has a speed of around 50 mph.

You could try putting your corms in perlite with water all the way to the surface of the perlite and cover with plastic or use a box with a lid. This way the corms will sit upright and they get enough water. I’ve tried every way of rooting them and this method works the best for me at least ☺️

The Pinguicula is always losing leaves (kinda like a bed for the roots and the roots are also more on the top off the pot and are growing shallow) but also always getting leaves. Its the growth pattern but the leaves get bigger from time to time.. and it can even bloom :)) it loves moist soil and does not want any nutrients (accepts from the little bugs that are getting "eaten" by the leaves) and if you want to propagate it you can pull off leaves (the older ones from the bottom are the better ones especially if it has a root) and root them in Moos or Coco Peat and it will eventuelly get into a full new plant.

my alocasia maharani has sadly been my hardest one 😩 it’s sooo beautiful. but i had it for less than a month when it dropped the first leaf. i was hoping it was just cus they’re sensitive and it was still acclimating to it’s move. but then a week later another started yellowing and drooping. so i decided to pull it out and check to see if something was up w the roots , was thinking it could potentially have a “death plug” since it was from a big box store. but weirdly, the roots looked so amazing and healthy. it even had 3 rooted corms ! so i decided to just move it to a slightly brighter spot to see if that would help and kept caring for it how i was till it eventually dropped every single leaf. i’m hoping it’ll start putting out a leaf soon , but it’s been abt a month since every leaf dropped and nothing yet. i did pot up all the corms separately and they’re doing well tho, though no leaves yet. fingers crossed i’ll have a beautiful one again soon and figure out how to take care of it!

Hi Fern! You inspired me to get a Hoya carnosa compacta. Yours looks so stunning!! They're really hard to come by where I live (the Netherlands), but I finally was able to order one from Belgium. It arrived today and after a thorough inspection I discovered a few mealybugs walking around. I know they're the most common pest found on compacta, so I was wondering if you've ever had to deal with it and if not, what you would do to battle them... I removed as much of the soil as possible and dunked it in a big bucket filled with warm water, hydrogen peroxide and some drops of Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap. Then I thoroughly rinsed the plant with the shower jet and afterwards sprayed my whole bottle of neem oil mixture on there. It's just chilling on a towel taking it all in right now. What else would you recommend? Should I put the plant in water for now, so I can monitor it closely and see if any new creepy crawlies arise before I repot it? Lots of love
@ssppo47032 жыл бұрын
If you're open to non-organic solutions, I recommend applying a systemic insecticide like imidacloprid, available in the states as Bonide systemic granules.
@juultje2222 жыл бұрын
@@ssppo4703 I don't live in the states so my options are limited, unfortunately. However, I have been looking into buying an insecticide containing Pyrethrin lately. Might work for multiple different pests, if I should encounter them in the future. Don't know if it'll work on mealybugs though. And thank you for your suggestion. I will remember the name of the active ingredient, maybe they have something similar available here in the EU.
