Hey Memo, I love your videos, always find them very informative. I'd like to point out that there are three types of begonias as far as I know: cane, rhizomatous and rex. I think you are confusing rex with rhizomatous ones. Rhizomatous begonias tend to grow vertically like canes but they have rhizomes in the soil, e.g. begonia blackblood, malachosticta, darthvederiana etc. Rex on the other hand tend to grow horizontally e.g. mesoniana, black velvet etc.

I love my marble queen. She doesn’t skip a beat even in the summer. That said, I have three completely reverted vines. Fortunately moving her to higher light stopped it from progressing further on other parts of the plant. I’d love to see a this vs that anthurium video. One day I’d love a strappy one with short petioles that’s easy to grow.

Hi Memo, very happy to watch your video as always 😊 I wish I would have listened to you - but you know, sometimes one gets mesmerised by a beautiful plant and gets it faster before any thinking takes place 😃 Begonia: I got 4 rex begonias + 1 b. brevirimosa leaves and since Halloween I´ve been attempting to grow them (having no previous experience with begonias). So far they are alive but they are so much unlike any other houseplants - I never know what they want🤔. Maybe it´s easier to start with a more established plant. But oh well, if they live for at least 1 year, I consider it success 😃 But I´m determined to somehow learn to understand them :-D I would swear that majority of marantaceae are far easier than to start a begonia from a leaf. However, I find marantaceae easier than succulents too 😃 Idea: I think it would be cool to compare also some philos, monsteras, alocasia and anthuriums. Also: Do you have Cercestis Mirabilis? What´s your experience growing it? Could you compare it with growing some philos (easier/difficult)?

Oh wow such different experiences with the Manjula right here! I've never had root rot in any of my Epipremnum's, even though they've been neglected the last months because I'm a new mom. And difference in speed of growth as well. With me the N'Joy is a slow grower, where the Manjula grows almost as fast as a normal Golden one 😅 I'm from Belgium and they all are potted in a mix of 2 parts soil, 1 part perlite and 1 part bark 😊

Agree re the Pothos. I'm on my third try with Manjula, and I won't try again. The first two literally melted with rot within days of coming home from a big box store, even though they initially looked fine. The third is from a private seller and so far much better, but still a bit of it has rotted away. Very finicky about water! Other pothos are much easier.

Manjula Pothos can be finicky! 🤦‍♂️ It's great hearing about your persistence and adjustments. Keep going! what worked for me in the end is moving mine to semihydro without a reservoir and watering them when the growing media is dry.

Compacta - to stay ahead of the mealy bugs, every time I water I spray it down with alcohol thoroughly. I then use a concoction of essential oils that pest hate with neem oil then topping off with water, just in case I've missed with the alcohol, to push them elsewhere. I do this with all my Hoyas. Just a thought Sydney

I agree that trying to pick off one mealy bug after the other is a fool's errand--and you'll be missing all the crawlers you can't actually see yet. I don't do it every time, but I do regularly blast my Hoya with an alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, soap solution. Works a charm.

🇦🇺 🙋🏻 hi Memo I have a cane Begonia and a few Rex, totally agree that the cane is waaaayyyy more forgiving. I've found the Calathea musaica is ridiculously easy to look after I feel better about having to resurrect my Manjula multiple times now lol, love my marble Queen, it's almost unkillable. billietiae vs spiritus sancti. I've had my billietiae for 8 months and it's finally pushed out a leaf - and that was only after I put it in the humidity cabinet! 🤦🏻 Loving that hybrid!!! Thanks Memo, love the comparisons, it's the kind of advice you'd get from a good nursery

Liked this video. What about an Attapoensai (spelling?) and the Billi? I have a Bill but do I also want the other. I do like the red undersides, but what about the length of the petioles? Is the Billi worst, or not? Also agree with others about comparing the different strappy leafed anthruisums. Which one is best? I can't see any difference.

The quest for the perfect petiole length continues! 🌿🔍 Thanks for sparking another great comparison idea. I can't see much of a different with the Atab. and the Billi if i am being honest, i find them both to be relatively slow growers if i am honest, but both rewarding in similar ways 😊💚🌿

I find the the Hoya compacta to be easier, but I do have a bigger plant which does make a difference. The Hoya Lisa seem to me very much more fussier, I’m always finding squishy leaves 🤣 and I barely water it and that is a large plant too, but yes you’re right the compacta is slow but less of a diva 😆

For me the cane begonia is a struggle keeping healthy and rex begonias are really tough . Another one you might compare are the Hamalomena camouflage and Agleonema pictum tricolor. The first one is a lot more available and ( only have experience with that one ) really nice as long as you dont forget to water it.

I've never had a problem with my Manjula. I agree it's not the fastest thing you could grow. I have mine on a moss pole and it seems to be loving it. It's only half way up the pole, so about 3ft, and I already have some fairly large leaves.

Please compare strap leaf Anthurium! That could take some time - maybe a dedicated video? Unless you've done one already. Also could compare strappy Philos. I've had an N'Joy for a few years and it's not bringing me any joy. It grows fine, I've propped it and have a nice full plant from that... Maybe the leaves are too small? I do like larger leaves on my foliage plants. I don't want to chuck it but I don't want to repot it and I don't know anyone who would want it. Love my Hoya Compacta - she is slower, but so far (and I check each watering and usually between) knock wood there have been no mealeys. And those guys love the desert. I've killed every other Hoya I've tried! I'm better with Anthurium and tuberous Begonia (a wide shallow pot and golden hour sun make it very happy.) I agree that less fussy prayer plants top Schismatoglottis in ease if care. My Triostar doesn't quit! I'm not on the Spiritus bandwagon, but I love strap leaved Anthurium, Philo Atabapoense, P. Billietiae, etc. And as I live in the Sonoran Desert, in Tucson, I tend to keep the cacti outside and the succulents indoors - including the Euphorbia. I make an exception for jungle cacti - perhaps you might cover those sometime? They're so much fun, fairly available, and so rewarding! As always, thanks for the fun and informative video. You're looking good, Memo!
