Currently doing research on how to more consciously and sustainably care for indoor plants. This video was uplifting and informative! So much of the environmental degradation is not by individuals but the large nursery companies, although there's still a lot that individuals can do to educate & practice more sustainably. Thank you for offering optimism instead of shaming people for what they don't know!

For those with gardens they can make a compost heap and use that for indoor plants. It's harder in an apartment but you could still save kitchen peelings, egg shells etc. You also need a little manure to put beneficial bacteria into it. I use peanut shells because they retain water and make our sandy soil chunkier. Only useful if you live in an area where they're grown, it's probably not a good thing to ship them around the world. But they're grown in America in many parts. Make sure to recycle the bags that potting mixes come in.

This is an excellent video. The information you've shared is great, resources are not infinite so we need to learn how to use appropriately. I think many of us, plant enthusiasts, like this hobby because it helps us connect with nature-we must learn the appropriate way to enjoy our plants.

Great video! I believe that we are contributing to the destruction of soil life, waterways and wildlife through use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers . This can kill the soil biome which helps outdoor plants take in nutrients and make the soil too salty which makes it more difficult for plants to take in water. According to Dr. Vandana Shiva, industrial agriculture which heavily uses pesticides is responsible for the reduction in size of rivers and lakes.

This is so important, thank you so much for sharing ! So in this case we should stick to natural ways against pests and organic fertilizers for our plants? Thanks so much for sharing 💚!

@@PlantsandLucia since I have orchid food for my orchids, I started using it for all my indoor plants hoping that it would have less salts. Outside, I dig in home made compost; I stopped using fertilizers and my plants seem happy so long as I don't forget to water. I can't seem to keep up with watering. Mother Nature is kind and we've had sufficient rain to keep them happy.

very interesting. I think if your in the same or similar tye of location as I am which gets snow. melt your snow for your plants. let it warm for a day or so. same as rain water.

Perlite is actually bad too, as it is not a renewable resource. According to Wikipedia: Perlite is a non-renewable resource. The world reserves of perlite are estimated at 700 million tonnes. Perlite is an amorphous volcanic glass[…], typically formed by the hydration of obsidian.

In the UK from 2024 it will be illegal to sell peat-based compost to gardeners, which is a great step forward. Perhaps more lobbying of your politicians in the US to bring their attention to this environmental issue will help.

Don’t forget the carbon footprint left by jets laying down miles of chem trails in the skies above….raining down particles of barium, strontium, aluminum, and so much more…..eyes to the skies!

I thought this channel was supposed to be about house plants, but it has turned into propaganda for green politics. I'm unsubscribing. Your channel doesn't provide antything that others don't do better anyways.

Of course, anyone is free to like/or unsubscribe to youtube. I disagree with your view - the information provided is excellent and there is a growing awareness that we cannot all blindly be consumers without thinking of the impact that has on our planet. I am firmly in the camp of being a plant lover who is also a planet lover too so thanks Lucia for your wonderful video. X
