Hi there. Congrats for your job with your dad. Hope you guys had a good time together. I work with bathroom renovations and i will just leave a few tips for whoever watched your video and is willing to do the same at their homes. - before watching tutorials of how to set tile watch tutorials of how to plumb and level your walls and floors. This is the most crucial step for a proper installation. - If you are using large format tile (anything 24" or larger) avoid the brick pattern because tiles tend to bow at the center and you may have lippage when using brick patter due to the fact that you will have the center of the tile (the lowest part of the bowl) right next to edge of the adjacent tile (the highest part of the bowl) - if you go with a concrete board you still need a crack prevention membrane before setting the tile. It can be the same redgard used on the walls with fiberglass mesh on the joints but is much easier if you just go with something like a Schlutter membrane that can be applied straight to the plywood. ( Check if the floor is properly leveled before) - always center your niche to the wall and measure upfront to make sure you will have a full tile at the bottom of the niche otherwise you will have harder cuts to work with. - when spreading thin-set make sure to always use your trowel in the same direction (horizontal or vertical). - you cannot only apply thin-set to the wall or to the floor you also need to back butter every tile piece to ensure 100% coverage and proper bonding. - if you are a beginner you can cut a 2x4 in shims and create a template of your walls and floors using hot glue. (Makes everything easier) - you cannot grout the corners (wall to wall and niche). Apply silicone caulk because overtime any grout at the corners will crack and fail. I wish everyone good luck!
