The Unsellables | After checking out this property, Sofie immediately knows what’s wrong… Outside, the verandah is full of junk, and the home’s interior beauty is obscured by oversize furniture, a home office in the dining room, and a tidal wave of baby accessories!

The Unsellables - From Season 1 Episode 12 "Shannon and Stewart": Shannon and Stewart’s baby-centric two-storey home faces a sprawling city park… But after three weeks on the market, they still haven’t received a single offer.
In order to best showcase the family’s home, Sofie comes up with a $3,800 plan. The couple is willing to get on board from the start… And after a major purge, Anthony and the team get to work on neutralizing the décor, building a bench for the verandah, and creating a designated home office space. Sofie gives Shannon and Stewart a lesson in real estate do’s and don’ts… And urges them to be more flexible in opening their home for viewings.
The Unsellables - After tracking down the most unsightly and ‘unsellable’ listings on the market, The Unsellables team attempts to transform real estate lemons into lemonade. Can the fearless crew get these desperate homeowners to get smart, let go of the past, and prepare for a sale?

There is also a basement, which they did not show. Usually it is the dimensions of the house. If finished, it could have been the office and home room. The built-in desk looks nice, but the room could be used as a family room.

Why are they even moving? They have a bedroom for each child, a bedroom of their own, could use that room in the back as an office again, have a small garden and a park right in front of the house! It's quite perfect for a young, small family. They just needed to declutter all that huge baby stuff and maybe change some wall colors to make the space look brighter/bigger.

Why does anyone "need" all that gaudy, clunky baby debris?! We raised 4 children with the same Porta-crib and never needed a regular size crib. (They're not Baby Huey, for crying out loud, and when they outgrew it they were moved to a twin or lower bunk with rail.) One changing table that held all the diapers, powder, etc.; one high chair; one baby backpack (not one of those backbreaking models that looks like the baby could live in it!) and a simple walker without all the plastic bling.

I'll never understand why real estate agents feel the need to say: here is your living room, your dining room, your kitchen...hum, we are not blind, we can see it! It is very distracting and brings nothing to the prospective buyer. The agent should let the buyer feel the place, echo their needs and concerns and bring forth information about the house that is not so obvious.

@@shqa574 Yes, good point. That type of stairway leading to the basement, with the bannister that curves around, is common in the Christie Pits/ Seaton Village area in T.O., as well as some other neighbourhoods. In terms of Canadian full basements, I'd say that it depends upon where in Canada you're speaking of. In the Maritimes, for instance, some of the houses are very old indeed and have more of a cellar than any. kind of foundation level that one could refurbish. But you did say "most," so maybe my point is moot, lol!

Why do you actually have to renovate before selling ? If I bought it, I would again renovate when moving in, according to MY taste... don't the buyers have enough phantasy to imagine how the house will look without clutter and styled by themselves ? For that price I can Airbnb you 10 days à month in a 5 min walking radius from my house. If you think that it adds value or it’s an investment, let me tell you what you are loosing for 400€. Those are the 400€ of emergency fund, you may need, or the 3 weeks yearly vacation with your family or 4/5 work week so you can see your kids grow.
