Tks for the wonderful memories! I was raised in Houston and left there in '86. My Grandfather worked downtown for Gulf Oil so the memories of downtown were wonderful. Of course I can't forget Paul Boesch and Houston Wrestling. Tks again for all the good memories!!!!!

How about Love Street Light Circus, The Cellar, and cruising Westheimer from end to end! Westheimer was a freak show for sure. It had a draw of people from everywhere. Used to go to the Hyatt Regency just to go to the Spindletop. It was fun to go fast in the parking garage at the Savoy Field. How about that waterfall at the Transco Tower, and an ice rink inside the Galeria!

Mr572u You mean the ice rink isn't there any more??? My older brother and I used to go ice skating there!!! Remember ASTRO world across 610 from the domed stadium and astrohall where they used to have all the large exhibits like the gun shows??? That's where I bought my baby girl 6' barrel M2 MADUE nickel plated with super scope with 4 mounting rings and remote trigger. Also right down the street maybe 100yards from Kaphan's was the Wee Wild West a small amusement park for young children!!! My mom would take us there waiting for our dad to get off work. An only one car family of course.

I had forgotten Gateway Pool (my sister cracked her tailbone jumping off the platform) until I saw this--thanks for resurrecting alot of great memories like my 4th birthday at Wee Wild West and working at Westbury Square Candle Shop and Kitirick--your videos are great!

H&H Music in Sharpstown Center, Wacker's 5 and Dime, Wee Wild West, Griff's and Taco Bell in Bellaire, Shipley's Donuts, Globe Discount City, Saturday kid chaos at the Bellaire Theatre. Forgot about U-Tot-Em. I'd collect soda bottles for 2 cents each and buy candy, then read the comics for free. And ditches, lots of ditches full of snakes and turtles.

I used to go with my Grandpa to Kaphans on Saturday nights when my grandma was out of town and he didn't want to cook. Some good seafood there and waiters in white tuxedo jackets!

I grew up in Channel Area, Galena Park, Jacinto City, Pasadena. I recall most of these stores, restaurants and CARS! One of my fave TV shows was KiTiRiKs Carosel! WAY better than Howdy Doody! I remember Matress Mac from the 70's. Nice guy, actually.

I remember when mattresses mac gave away all that furniture to people who would purchase the furniture before the superbowl and guess the winner I can't remember the year but everyone knew who was going to win . He gave away I believe 18 Simi truck loads of furniture ( I believe he knew he had terminal cancer ) he was just giving back to people.

My dad worked at Kaphan's as there pastry chef his name was John Nielsen. He was from Denmark first started at Simpsons Dinning car. That guy sponsored my dad to come over to this country back then!!! I'm guessing I wasn't even 2or3 years old at that time!!!

Looks like the 7-11 on the corner of Burdine and Belrose back in 1959. I remember my Dad bought ice for $0.20 for a 20-25 pound bag of fresh chiped ice cube that was selected in the freezer. The trees in the background look like that site at that time. Huge front door!

GOD, that brought back a few memories. Some pleasant and some not so pleasant. It was great seeing the Dome in it's construction stages and the finished product, but it also brought back sad memories of a segrated Houston. We have come a long way here in Houston, but the work isn't done yet.

I'm a little young to remember some things but I do remember the Astroworld ferris wheel and that it was so much better before Six Flags took over. And I remember the Gaido restaurant on South Main. And boy do I miss 7 Eleven and Utotem stores. At least I can go to Austin and still get a Slurpee.

Trying to research an event that happened in Houston in the late 1950s. It was when the huge granite or marble sign fell from the Alaskan Furs building, crushing some bystanders/pedestrians on the sidewalk below. I think at least 2 people were killed (not sure how many injured). Looking for the date it happened and any additional details...

I was born and raised here and I'm still here. I don't answer the door with a gun, but I do look to see who it is! ;-) Gateway Crystal pool was a really fun place, but it was a stretch from my house. It had an air bubble in the deep end and you could get under it and sit there and see everything. It also had a real long, fast slide that would scoot you half way across the pool. The downtown movie houses were a treat, but parking was bad in the 60's. Chances were that your car would be stolen.

Oilers at Jeppesen Sta, 45s at Colt Sta, Playland Park, The Fatstock Show & Rodeo in the Sam Houston Colosseum, Prince's Drive-In, Stelzig's Saddlery, American Hat Co. Yep, Houston was a nice city, and then Elmer Wayne Henley was arrested. It's been going down-hill ever since. NOW it's a sanctuary city.

then family issues came up, death of a younger sister so i moved back south then i just moved to Sealy area for family reasons. I want to go home to Upstate NY so bad, that is home now to me. love the people there, they are the best of the best! Beautiful area too so that helps lol. But i grew up in the Lake Houston area which was nice back then, not so much now days, the once nice parts are not nice at all now. crazy what 20-30yrs can do to a community. You're absolutely right. My parents live in Stephentown New York, outside Albany across the border of Pittsfield Massachusetts. I lived in Alaska from 2008 till 2020 , I came back south because of the economy. Alaska's economy is terrible right now 2022 . On my way to Philadelphia ( helicopter mechanic ) I'm ready 3 hours from my parents house.

Is that 7-11 in the vid at 0:27 the one that was on the corner of Willowbend and S. Post Oak? If it is that's one of the ones I used to work at in 1968. I worked as they used to call it the 3rd shift 3 to 11. I was later moved to the one not to far from Westbury High School. One night at the one by Westbury as I was closing me and the manager witnessed a hippy couple having sex in the middle of our parking lot.
