This area you showed is not the real hood. Try driving down Selinsky or MLK at 2 AM. Then head north to Hirsch Road in NE. This Gulfton area is full of old apartments, lots of Latin people, old infrastructure, and young gang bangers at night. This area is "tame" compared to the real bad hoods in Houston.
@p2a0p2e0r111 ай бұрын
The violence in Gulfton is either gang on gang or domestic dispute. Besides that not a lot of other crime like you have in some of the more run down parts of town. On the Southwest I would say Bissonnet, Club Creek, Woodfair, Forum Park, Braeswood and Fondren area are the most ghetto .

Tons of apartment complexes. Kind of a hood that’s of more recent development than we see in most places. The mix of residential, industrial and commercial use all mixed up is the result of Houston (famously) not having any zoning. Keep up the good work you two!

@ 3:39 In 1980 to 1982 I lived in that Apartment to the right of the white door. It's was Hillcroft Fountain Apts. It wasn't to bad. Just hard working people trying to make a living. The fence wasn't there back then. In 83 moved to Courtside Gardens which is La Plaza Apartments today. Lantern Village Apartments @ Renwick Dr. and Gulfton St. was really bad. It was Gulfton Square Apartments back then. HPD had a Sub Station inside the Complex and partoled on foot with shotguns. There was a bunch of shootings and stabbings, but 90% was people that knew each other. When build 2 Apartment complexes within 1 block of each other that are each over 500 Apartments. That is over 1000 Apartments all on top of each other. There is going to be a lot of fights and sometimes shots fired.

These type of videos which paint whole communities with a broad and often ignorant brush from a distance is gross and adds to subtle racism. You aren't doing anyone a real service punching down. There are thousands of very hard working, wonderful, and generous people in this neighborhood. Calling it a 'hood' and 'Worst' doesn't uplift any of these people - just feeds into negative stereotypes and encourages some to feel superior. Surely you have better things to do with your life.

“Business mixed with residential is almost never a good thing”? Have you been to downtown Austin, West Village NYC, San Francisco (10 years ago)? The main “hood” aspect of your video to me was just the metal fences in front of apartment buildings. But I didn’t see homeless, too many sketchy guys hanging out on the street corner going nowhere, empty buildings/homes or massive graffiti. To me, this looked more working class than hood.

@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS I can’t speak to the crime rates. Just that to me, “hood” is different from working class. This seems working class.
