I was sitting on the front row right in front of Hovie, it was awesome at the GOGR and I never missed one all those years from 1988 until the end.

I always wanted to learn to chord like him when i firat started playing the piano. Always enjoyed his playing especially on the classic recordings. Just knew what to do.

All 4 of these guys we actually never together until this. The bass singer was Big Chief in 1950, as well as Doy Ott as the baritone and Hovie's piano fill in during his time in the service, Jake Hess was the lead singer yes, but Denver Crumpler was the tenor from 1950 til his death in 1956 and that is when Rozie Rozell (the tenor on stage) joined.

Denver Crumpler was the first to pass away in 1957. Big Chief passed in 1975 and Doy Ott in 1986 so the three of them were already gone when they did this performance in 1989. All of them are missed.
