1:55 min Anything above a size 4? Girl it made me believe anything besides size 0 was fat!! Wild. I'm naturally a size 4-6 and had an eating disorder (starved myself to a size double 0) for there longest time due to the early 2000s messaging. So sad when I look back. I'm glad people are starting to have better media literacy. Thank you for this video I wish I had it when I was a teen.

Growing up in the 2000's was SOOO difficult. You are right on the money about these tabloids its was literally everywhere. Looking back now I realize how ridiculous it was for my little 13 14 year old self to be comparing myself to these grown women. But it was literally just everywhere. And the fact that they were doing this to celebrities, when youre younger you dont realize that these are just people. Thankfully we are slowly shifting in our culture away from that but it is still so out threre.

Ahhh Jessica Simpson looks so normal in that Texas performance photo, how did people consider that overweight! Tabloid culture is so disgusting, thank you for diving in, researching, and calling it out. I can't believe the comments Tyra had on her show too, I never watched ANTM for that reason. So so wild and harmful. It seems like headlines and tabloid culture is still really similar today in a lot of ways unfortunately.

"People can be perpetrators of the same harm they inflict on others." SO TRUE. We tend to think in black-and-white victims v perpetrators, but the reality is more complex. As a feminist, I've come to realize this means I must always be careful of my own actions and to not act in the way I wouldn't want to be treated.

As well as skinny bodies, boob jobs were super popular in 2000s which added to how unattainable the body was

It’s crazy that it took this video for me to realize the fat shame in media existed way before I was introduced to social platforms. I remember seeing the tabloid too as a child in the grocery stores and I did not think much of it when I saw the things they would say about women’s bodies…not trying to make excuses just growing up in a Caribbean household the commentary about body and weight were so much more ruthless than the tabloids. I genuinely did not see how wrong it was until I’m older now. Thank you for shedding light on this topic. I love women like Lizzo and Rihanna who embrace authenticity. Once again, great video. I love your content so much.

The tabloids at the grocery store were much worse than they are today. I like I can find cooking mags ones and healthy eating etc… now. Oh Jerry Springer. I cannot stand that show. It makes me so sad when people are fat shamed. I was embarrassed at work for being too heavy. I was told I was not the proper image. Come on people, we can do better!

Even at my smallest in high school I was still a 12. I had to give up on the idea of being thin and pretty pretty quick and I think that helped boost my confidence some. I still have issues with my weight (currently sitting at a size 24) but I can still say I'm pretty and don't need to listen to the media trends.

It’s crazy that these magazines were considered normal. I saw them all the time, even at doctor’s offices. No wonder we all have so much body surveillance.

These types of tabloids were everywhere for a while and became the norm in society. Great job diving into this topic ⭐️

Most people say they're "obligated" to fat shame b/c a bigger person is "unhealthy" & shaming them will force them to change. I would love your thoughts on this b/c the BMI scale is not an indication of health, & fatshaming is what leads people to anorexia in the first place. For example khole Kardashian being fat shamed throughout her 20s

Tabloid magazine had a great marketing strategy which should be implemented positively. However body shaming isn't funny I personally hate it. Thanks for bringing this up in this video . Hope the world will see this video and see how hurtful it is to shame anyone
