I doubt such stash exists as the leader is in it more for clout than actual preservation of the trim, there could literally be a single one hidden in a bedrock vault stored in a barrel that occasionally gets taken out to be duplicated and applied on the cult uniforms.

From what I’ve seen from the past of 2B2T, this is either going to be duped so hard that people would leave it around in spawn, or the owner of it will just go offline and never come back online.

It really is just because the optimization caught up to the server’s performance demands. 1.13 and up was so unplayably laggy that it just couldn’t happen without people abandoning 2b2t

1.13 was a deep overhaul minecraft that broke nearly all mods, and also had performance issues. The result was many big servers stuck on 1.12 for a long time. Gradually mods either got ported to the new version or replacement mods were created with similar functionality., The performance situation also improved, both in terms of vanilla performance and in terms of what the performance mods could deliver. So servers were able to move to modern minecraft without tanking performance. Since 1.13 while there has been a bunch of content and worldgen updates, we haven't seen any more deep overhauls of the core of the game.

I just read on the 2b2t wiki that Hausmaster actually reseted the stronghold 2 days ago so more players could get the eye-trim, so it might be possible that it gets distributed all over the server now

Simpcraft had a similar situation, some player(s?) used bot accounts to go to each stronghold to hoard eye trims and leverage power over others with it.

the new mace coming in 1.21 (can one shot full prot IV netherite armour from 9 blocks up with the correct enchants) will be very interesting to see as having the ability to instantly kill anyone and having aimbot would cause some chaos

That's insane. That's stated at around 96% damage reduction with that armour set. It must have ludicrous one hit damage potential to be able to take down a target with 20 health alone, never mind through all that.
