Frankly it's obscene what Toyota want for these vehicles. With kids nearly off my hands was contemplating buying a 79 single cab GXL to go touring and finally ditch the caravan. Quick look on the Toyota website and they want $85k for one of these now. That's 85,000 dollars for a two seat farm ute with virtually nothing in it, and then you have to throw half of it away and replace it to make it into something that might have some basic comfort for touring. That's just insane. To put it into perspective my ultra luxurious Y62 Patrol has taken me all over the country, with 100% reliability and cost 10,000 dollars less. And all I had to do was put a decent set of tyres on it.

Yep exactly....they are terribly uncomfortable, noisy, prehistoric and all about wank factor as they look cool and that's about it.....great for mining and station work but as for a touring, towing and every day driver they are rubbish unless you throw thousands into it. I've owned a 79 DC and currently own a 76...I should of bought a 200 after I sold the 79, lesson well and truely learnt.

You sir win the internet today. I thought i was the only one that thinks a 79 is way overrated. You need to spend twice what the original cost is to bring it to a 2020 std
@willmarks45413 жыл бұрын
its a farm and mining truck. youll spend a lot of money making it a comfortable four wheel drive. because thats not what its meant to be. just like trying to make a toyta corolla a rock crawler. im sure you could, just depends how much money you want to spend. stop viewing these as civilian cars, because they're not. they're utility vehicles that are meant to be simple and to last, and they do both of those things pretty well. this is coming from a Patrol owner lol

Yes - I’m guilty of purchasing one - I’ve always been a 79 series fan - however I concede that you don’t get value with components. - you’ve forgotten two major issues with the dual cab, these being: the lack of a dual fuel tank & the narrow rear axle. I’ve addressed both issues at a cost of $9.5k. Should come as standard. Toyota don’t care - they still sell em to mugs like me.
@coreygolder65033 жыл бұрын
Lack of dual fuel tank, they come with a single long range tank. The narrow rear diff, ever Landcruiser cab chassis and troopy has the narrow rear diff.

he might as well of rang muscle man from patriot and bought one of his, and saved himself the work. I love the content Matt does, but, "building a 79" is old. All4Ad have being doing it for years and so have many others. The facts are, after you pay 85g for a tractor, you need to spend 50+ to make it a tourer. May as well bought a 2500 ram or chev and had a comfy tourer and plenty of power on tap. I really dont get the love affair with the 79. apart from yeah, they look tough fitted out, but any 4by does
