That feeling when you come to your car and see damages. It's a feeling that can't be described. A granny backed into my car and did roughly $3000 worth of damage. Luckily she left a note and did cover the cost via her insurance

Hi there, What you need is a split charging system whereby you have the main car battery and a second car/leisure battery being charged at the same time whilst on the move. This type of system is common in the UK very often used by touring caravaners who need 12 volt supply in the caravan. The batteries they use are what's called "leisure batteries" designed specifically for relatively low current drain as opposed to very high cranking amps required to start the car with a conventional car battery. Not sure what your current drain would be but most leisure batteries are high capacity that should give you the duration you need. These are available in different capacities (amp hour ratings that is) so you would have to decide on its capacity based on your dash cam current drain and the duration needed. Because the charge is split the primary charge goes to the cranking battery and a lower charge goes to the liesure battery. There are dedicated aftermarket split charging units available to control the split charge ratio. Hope that helps

The problem with parking mode is the delay it takes to start recording where the incident would have already happened by the time it catches it.
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar 7 жыл бұрын
+ZeroColdx911 That actually depends on if the camera is recording prior to the incident and saves things in a buffer. Not all cameras do. Here's an example of how it should work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6C4n4mAq5yMY80

I watched a Ford passenger van back up into a parked car moving the car about 2 feet, destroying the drivers door. the people in the van got out and left a note with fake information. I got a picture of the people and the vans plate. left a note on the person's car.

Yes, people will indeed run despite the dash cam. One of mine that's equipped with front and rear cameras has been hit twice in a month and vandalised about a month prior. Whoever vandalised it was where they could see the back cam. The third time's charm. Now I have two of the three vehicles' cameras set to start recording if the vehicles are bumped. The third needs re wired as it's internal battery has worn out and been removed, but it does still turn on automatically with the vehicle. That vehicle gets parked under a powerful security light towards the back of my property. I'm good at paint repairs and can fix the damage to my own vehicles but it's still a huge pain.

I was in the same situation with a side hit. They need to bring out a system that is 360 degrees. I know it would cost more but to have a central recording unit ( which could be out of sight) with 4 Y-Fi cameras with at least 150 -160 degree lenses. With the bulkiness of the recordeing unit out of sight the cameras could realy be stealth.

Subscribed! Can't wait for your update. I'm in the same situation where i work from home, so i don't drive much at all. I my dashcam hardwired into my car's (brand new Ford Focus), but the parking mode only works for a couple hours (varies on weather and how long the battery gets to charge) and cuts off once it drops below 12.1V
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've noticed the same thing too. Mine is set to cut off at 12.0V and I get about 2.5 hours which really isn't much. Going to a lower voltage level could help (but your car battery won't like that as much) or you can go for the external battery solution. I think I'm going to revert back to this ultimately.

Glad to hear it worked out especially with someone doing the right thing! For the past month I have been using the Thinkware dual channel F770 and the parking mode it has sold me. It monitors voltage then stops parking mode recording when your voltage threshold is reached. I like the motion feature it has too. Lots of features to still play with. Please do a review and keep up the great work. ;-)

Not that I disagree with you, in fact I am in the market for a duel channel unit at this time. A couple of things I want to add though is if your vehicle has one of those OBD-II safe driver insurance device (i.e. DriveWise, Snapshot or etc.), the data it collected will show/prove that your vehicle received an impact while it was stationary/parked (with ignition on or off); the other thing is if someone hits the vehicle from either side, there may be within the "blind spot" of the forward/rearward cameras then we are still SOL in catching the incident in the video (except for a shake or two). Thinking to install a 360 degrees video cam ... Anyhow, Thanks for the video and taken the time to share your experience and recommendations. I agree that nothing beats having a picture/video (with date time stamp - often people turn that info off) to show exactly what took place. Thanks!

+Rick T I've looked into side cams too for that 360 degree view. Gotta get something small with mounts and cables that are out of the way too. :) If you go that route ultimately, I'd be curious to hear what you get.

Vortex Radar, I have been fortunate enough to barrow a Nikon Keymission 360 and installed it in my car's dome light area. The power consumption is definitely a concern as it's not designed for cars nor for days long parkings... Soon I will be returning it, so my next option/thinking is to place a duel channel dash cam diagonally in the reverse direction when the vehicle is parked (the front cam would look through the cabin back while the rear cam be looking through the cabin forward) to achieve that 360 visibility during parked period (cheap way of doing it but quite inconvenient at the same time). In my opinion, this does require some manufacturer specifically design a such 360 feature/capability otherwise investing in a Keymission 360 is just too costly... beyond all that would be to park in a remote area (and never fails to later found out that someone else just have to park next to the car too...) which my wife and I am sure many others would say "that's silly".

Same thing Happened to me and my mom at HEB (A grocery store only in Texas) and they said that they have no footage of our car BUT we were parked right in FRONT of the camera so they don’t want to say they have ANY footage of our vehicle getting hit also the person was a entitled person and most likely thought that “oh I don’t have to leave a note I’m super special and I’m not at fault that they parked here!!” So they DIDN’T leave a freaking note which is so freaking annoying and my mother owns a 2017 Cadillac Escalade that has pearl white paint (super expensive paint) so the car would honestly be 2000+ dollars to fix the car so we are in bit of a pickle so I will suggest my Mom to go get a dash cam. Your best bet for your battery set up is to have batteries that you swap out. No one that parks on the side of the street (in a big city like you) drives an hour a day. Doesn't matter what size battery you get it'll just be impossible to keep it charged from the car. Solar panels wont work either not even here in Florida. Or get the Tesla 3! :)
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar 7 жыл бұрын
That may wind up being the solution. I have heard of people with bigger car batteries in warmer temperatures getting 2-3 days of recording time off their car battery and that's an improvement too. I guess it's one of those things where YMMV.

Come to think of it......In my previous situation my apartment had a window facing the parking lot. I had a hidden cam pointed towards the area where I parked. Almost caught someone side swipe an entire car as they pulled in cause they were on the phone. They just looked at the damage and parked a block away. If you don't have a front facing window maybe you can get your building owner to install one?... W The battery swap out method that is just a hassle chances are you will forget.

You need like 5 cell link b's to keep those cameras running for days on end. Jeeps have a second battery to use for auxuilary lights or cars with sound systems that draw a lot of power dont think this is practical for you you have to figure out where and how to mount a second battery and somehow figure how to keep that battery charged. Maybe some kind of capacitor to recharge the battery same concept as a cellink b or blackvue powermagic battery box except its an extra power supply to charge your battery rather than an extra battery to power your dashcam. Your best bet is to install more than one celllink b or other and make a conscious effort to drive the car to recharge every few days or hook up the battery to a battery charger and let it sit on charge while you work at home. But if you really dont drive that much and park in the same spot? Why not just set up a cctv to monitor the car from your home if thats possible. At any rate any soultion would most likely be monetarily viable since your car gets hit so often.

Btw, that external battery bank you use to supplement your BlackVue power magic is not really compatible. The BlackVue battery bank is designed for 12volt devices. I may be wrong but the external battery banks aren't made for that kind of power current.
@VortexRadar

I agree. You can get a converter that turns the USB port to a cig. lighter plug and bumps the voltage from 5v to 12v amzn.to/2okF2wF , but I think the Blackvue battery pack is looking for a higher current level and so it doesn't work out so great.

Without the offenders' details. Insurance claims could cost more, over time. Either way, I lose out! Thanks for the info., a dash-cam, sounds like a good investment. 🇺🇸🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✌️ * "Dash-cam seed of doubt" sounds like a band name..... I'm not sure if: "Instant fruit of depravity" is better 🙄😋

@@jahanbaxter Wow. So glad you said "almost", I hear eye heart attacks can really ruin your day. Sudden heart blindness, is traumatic too. Thanks for the "insight", into these rare afflictions. 👍🤣

My car got side swiped in the rear while at a Starbucks. Dashcam wouldn't have saved me there. 🙄
