that's partially true! people give all the credit to Steve Jobs for creating Apple but forget about the software engineers who develop the apps and the software for apple products. At this point this is a fashion house, so they have many designers who contribute to making a product, so my point here is that all companies have labour and Dior is no exception. When I was in high school around 7 years ago, we had a project where we had to talk about the process of making a product, some people chose to do things like soap and chocolate, using clips of those "How It's Made" video in their presentations. I've always had a passion for fashion (Bratz), and I remember watching this video for the first time and thinking that it would be perfect for my project. The presentation went very well and everyone seemed to really be into it, including the teacher who gave me the highest grade in class. My favorite part were the mini chocolates I gave out that I meticulously stuck a Dior logo on to stay in theme with the video. Seeing this video gave me a rush of good high school memories!

I think the entire point of this Dior video is to showcase the artistic aspect that goes into creating a line for a run way show or any fashion line for that matter. Clothing and fashion are an avenue of self expression and being able to design and create a line of clothing that is able to generate emotion and present a story is an art in itself. For anybody to downgrade a creative genius such as Dior is a blasphemy. Art and creativity are a necessity that very few possess the capabilities of showcasing. I myself designing as my form of self expression. There are may different creative outlets for us all to use. I believe the world needs more creativity and less conformity. More art and creativity! Lets continue to break rules and remain innovative and un-relatable to the average mind. If you are someone who feels they lack creativity, I encourage you to utilize your mind to its greatest capacity and see how far it takes you. Lets go! Art over all!

+Shivangi Krishna The technique is called ""plisser", which require fabric to be caught between two pieces of paper which are then folded into the designs (the papers are usually pre folded with the design). They then roll it up and put the fabric into an industrial steamer to set the plissés. The people you would go to for this service is called "un plisseur". The specific Atelier in which is featured in this video (who works with other Haute Couture houses), is called Les ateliers du plisseur Lognon

But aren't all the dresses made here tailored specifically for the models so of course more work would go into It? when actually going out for distribution to the public surely it isn't as specialised? unless rich people want thier exact measurements and get it tailor made like this? you can tell I have no clue how high end stuff works XD
@madimorie8 жыл бұрын
Dior and many other high end brands usually don't sell the clothes from their fashion shows, all those beautiful haute couture gowns are uniquely made to fit one person. They also have clothes for a broader market which have the standard sizes etc.
@slimtodress8 жыл бұрын
To add to what Meru said, only very rich people can afford Haute Couture clothes - which is always made specifically for the person. The seamstresses from e.g. Dior would take measurements of the client and would make the dress for her. After the dress is almost done, they would fly to the client's location and have a first trial before completion. Depending on the complexity, they would have from one to a few trials. If something is wrong with the dress upon the final delivery - the seamstresses would again fly to the client's location to deal with it. That's why the haute couture is so expensive. For more wider distribution the process is of course different - but also the final product would be less sophisticated. There is an excellent online course about fashion business on coursera - check it out if you want to learn about fashion industry, it's free and extremely interesting.

I love seeing these videos, where everything is being made for the runway. I love seeing the process a design goes through from sketch to completion. Even more so when is couture. I'm going to get some slack for this but I'm saying it anyway. My only issue abd I've seen this in another Dior video too is the sewing machine. Endgame though is only used for the simple straight stitching line attaching the ribbon to the fabric before it was pleated, Haute Couture peices are meant to be competed 100% by hand. As a French house I just wonder why they allow the use of the machine other than for speed. But there cod be a rule about being able to use it but only fit certain things. But other than that I still loved the video.
