We still have people asking for the whereabouts of their families that went missing in the war. Still have people asking for their land back that has been illegally stolen by the Sri Lankan army. Still people asking for justice for their murdered loved ones. Remember Sunil? How he was pardoned even though he should have been killed for his crimes? I did not see any such outrage from the Sinhalese community. Even this past week, there was a vihara illegally attempted to be built on Tamil land. Fortunately, we protested and were able to stop it. But the Sinhalese deployed army members and Buddhists and attempted to block the area as it is built. And on top of that, a former minister even said that it would be built regardless of the court order. Yet, the majority still stay silent. So you can ask for a better future with your mouth, but you can only prove it with your actions.

In part to have an organic farming community, you need a strong composting program to help keep the soil fertile. Sounds like they may have done one without the other. The Rajapaksa brothers were elected primarily because of Sinhala ethno-nationalism. In Sri-Lanka, elections are won on anti-Tamil and anti-Muslim propaganda! The Sinhalese would have allowed the Rajapaksa brothers to stay in power, if the economy had not collapsed! The IMF and Western countries should not give any money until the root cause of the problems are dealt with. These include endemic corruption, majoritarianism, nepotism and terrible governance.

I am a Sri Lankan, The Majority of Sri Lankans believe that, Sri Lanka was Destroyed by Rajapaksha, But Reality is totally different. During the rajapaksha Era, Sri Lanka Highest Economic Growth Rate in Asia, Not only that, the 30-year war has been ended and GDP increased by over 400%. Sri Lankan People don't know numbers. The GDP gap was reduced. But during the 2015-2019 Time period, Loan amount doubled. No action were taken, Later Gotabaya Rajapaksha did Big mistakes such as reduce tax rates etc. Opposition parties including foreign countries got the advantage of it. The result is a conspiracy. People Believe Country is ruined by Rajapaksha, and They have given power to who actually did. The Same thing happens in Bangladesh now.

That's very simplistic. When the war ended, the agrarian economy of the north and east was included into the economy. The investments that were dormant due to war time flowed into the country which is natural for any country when the political stability improves. So what Rajapakshas did right was provide adequate infrastructure to the war regions and rest of the country to support the logistics of the new economy. What they did wrong was during later period they indulged in white elephant projects. All these projects were done not with trade surplus but with loans. So the burden to pay the interest of previous loans and complete ongoing projects and new projects by the new government was on new government. So all governments go beyond their means to provide infrastructure without strengthening the local economy.

Although there were some white elephant projects, they made enough money to cover them or there were some other ways to do it. For example, Hambanthota Port city cost was covered by the profit of Colombo Port.

Port was yet to be completed, if it was finished, that was one of the best projects in history. If they obtain 500 million from somewhere, that makes profits. Without doing it, Yahapalana government rented the property. I mean, during the building phase, the Sri Lanka Port Authority had enough money to pay, the Hambanthota port loan.

Jayawardhana (JRJ) and ministers and the MPs started stealing in big scale continued till to date. JRJ is the one who started the opening economy and let all local industry to collapse and importing from paper pin to everything you name. General public used to enjoy luxury life style from borrowed money. Some how the country was managing to pay the debts from foreign remittances and tourism but same was badly effect due to the Covid19 pandemic from 2019 to 2021. Only Rajapakshas are blamed for this down falls because they defeated the terrorist group group LTTE with no proper base.
