How do you measure how much fuel you are giving them? Is it just empty a full compartment and you know you gave them all the gallons that that compartment holds? What if someone old needs 400 gallons of premium' how would you "meter out" 400 gallons. I'm assuming you fill up your truck and then go and make a bunch of deliveries. Just WOW. I'm the ops and control manager for a small petroleum company in South Africa and I've always believed that when it comes to doing a drop there's a standard across the globe. There are some similarities, like the vapor we release it via a breather pipe and rely on pressure built by the truck to gravity out. BTW you said the 6 compartments is the largest you've seen, here in S.A standard load is 40000 Liters = 10566.882 Gallons in a 7/8 compartment configuration. Be safe out on the road and always remember in our industry the moment we lose respect for the product that's when things end up going side ways.

Why wouldnt you take the extra few seconds to change your dials from empty to regular when the compartments have regular in them. If you were ever in an emergency situation people would mistake the tank for being empty when it is actually loaded. For example if the tanker rolled and fire crews seen the dials they would be tempted to think the tank is empty unless they checked your bill of lading.
@DrtyDiesel7 жыл бұрын

I just started hauling fuel for a local company. I’m training on the tank wagons first. I had no previous experience. Helps a few cousins have been with the company for a long time. It’s a lot to learn. Mixes and spills can easily happen if you’re not paying attention. And they’re extremely expensive. Hopefully I never do that. It’s a great job though! Excellent pay and benefits. Even though I got my CDL A recently I look forward to getting to learn the transport side of the industry. We have a few big 13400 trailers. They’re intimidating to say the least, but I’m going to have to learn them. My wife and family are counting on me.

Benjamin Richeson the flow is so strong that if it was opened anything someone tried to put into the tanks would be instantly pushed back out. Not to mention they would spill a lot of gas and be very obvious as you almost never see these trucks in a place other than the yard they are stored without lots of people.

@Chistopher lewis thats so true. Todays unleaded ethanol stinks bad compared to the older pump gasoline from the 1970's. Today's gas is corrosive to most vehicles built before 2002 and all motorcycles, Recreational vehicles, small engine types such as lawn mower, chainsaw, generators etc. There's many who will vote for the newer fuels however, it causes so much expense and maintenance to the older fuel systems and small engines.

We actually load from a terminal that gets fuel from refineries. so for instance the refinery may be in Louisiana, a ship will load up fuel, travel around florida up to Jacksonville and unload. then we go to the terminal that the ship unloaded at and load our trucks then go from there.

In 1976 one of my brothers was stationed at FT. Carson Colorado. He had just bought a new Datsun/Nissan pickup. Little truck was loaded for the time period. Bright Red with factory chrome wheels, black interior and a custom black bed cover with windows and lift gate. Think it was 4x4 even for the Colorado snow! He and the wife and baby , head to North Carolina for a two week leave. The truck is only two weeks old. It's not even really broken in yet. He would only use Branded Gasoline. Stopped in one of the mid-west states to refuel from near empty. It was one of the Old Standard oil stations that were broken-up by Uncle Sam because of monopolies and spawned Amoco stations among many others. The engine was hot from Hwy driving and had some gasoline still in the fuel tank. He filled up with Premium for the most mileage out of a tank full. Back on the Hwy making good time for a while then the truck started loosing power. Took more throttle and some fancy foot work on the throttle pedal to keep up with traffic. Thought there must have been water in the gas. Time to refuel again at a Branded Big Oil station. Refills with Premium Gas. Truck cranks but is stuttering and skipping a little so he decides to just drive straight thru. Gets to the parents house late at night. Next morning off to the NC dealership in town. Leaves the truck. Dealer calls and said the engine was Burnt up.Rings,pistons ,cylinder walls and some bearing damage. Diesel fuel in the premium tank. The diesel washed the cylinder walls down and diluted the oil. With the left over gasoline in the tank and the engine being hot a gasoline engines will run on diesel fuel. Not great but it will run. Truck is under warranty so He and Datsun get in touch with Standard oil Co. They admitted that indeed at this station diesel fuel had been unloaded in the Premium underground tank. Standard oil Co bought his new Pickup and He got another new Truck plus a settlement for any hardship.Local Datsun dealer was also paid for there trouble shooting and engine tear down time. His wasn't the only vehicle that was bought and replaced before they found out the problem and had the tanked pumped and cleaned. Lesson here is always keep your receipts cause you never Know!!! For all you mechanics out there, here's another one to think about! My Dad and I had a fresh 5 gallon steel gas can of fresh varsol solvent in the garage for cleaning parts. Back then all gas cans were metal. We kept lawn mower gas in the smaller 2 gallon cans. Mom fires up the push mower and starts mowing . She loved to mow, never understood that one! She runs out of gas. gets the small gas can .It's empty. She wants to finish so checks the other cans, all empty! looks and finds our stashed 5 gallon can of Varsol ! Fills it up. Finished mowing with fresh Varsol ! She told us she found our big can and used it to finish mowing! We thought that would be the end of that Briggs & Stratton . Nope that mower ran for years until the deck broke. That Briggs never used any oil or ever smoked.Kept it for a spare.Honest Truth!!!

great video. now i am not the biggest EPA fan but the vapor recovery does seem like a good idea. from what i understand in certain atmospheric conditions those vapors can pile out and stay close to the ground, drifting slowly or accumulating around. all it would take is one flick of the lighter.

I maintained a truck license for 43 years hauling Propane and Butane for 10 of those years. The truck and trailers are more dangerous when they are empty than when they are full. The empty tanks are full of vapor that is allot easier to ignite than a tank full of liquid. Granted gasoline will ignite pretty easy but the vapor in the tank already has oxygen blended in it and will flash quite easy!!

Most cars engines are built to use regular gas and will not receive a benefit from using premium. Premium gas will improve performance of cars that have engines that can utilize or only run on premium. So unless on the gas cap of your car says it recommends premium or only premium, you are better of using regular gas in your car.
@marcusmeade90336 жыл бұрын
I run premium on my Motorcycle, the difference in performance is amazing. i have tried using regular once and you could feel and hear the difference in the bike. she did not like it.
@wesleyhurd35746 жыл бұрын
Vehicles with high-compression engines, especially turbocharged engines, need a higher octane than regular grade gasoline. If your vehicle needs premium it will run poorly without it. If your vehicle does NOT require premium it will NOT see any benefit by using it.
@adriangutierrez95826 жыл бұрын
Wesley Hurd Typically anything that is above 10:1 compression needs premium. Turbocharged engines have for example 8:1 but once that pressurized air gets in the engine it goes up.

We domed out the (shotgun) tanks, because we would bypass the scales by taking back roads. A requirement by our company, at the time. This was out of Springfield, Missouri, regional hauls.
