@TroyKBarnes
@TroyKBarnes 10 күн бұрын
@@uToop the above comment in question is implying that the lawyer lied in court to free “Sheldon the Killer.” With the gift of hindsight, it’s easy to criticize the lawyer’s work here. But you have to understand that decisions in court, especially pertaining to early release, are completely based upon the admissible facts available to the presiding judge at the time of those proceedings. You all act as if this lawyer had some hidden agenda to let a monster loose on the public-at-large, when in reality he’s doing his best to be a voice for the voiceless and a champion to the civil rights of literal strangers. Moreover, saying that Sheldon “allegedly” murdered a man is a completely factual statement. The State is doing exactly that - alleging that he killed and dismembered that man. Once Sheldon gets his day in court and is ultimately convicted based upon the overwhelming evidence, then these statements will no longer be allegations. But until then… that’s all they are. And it is not dishonest to call a spade a spade.

The professionals said the dude was a danger to society and should not be released. But this amateur legal advocate with a horrible judge of character and easily manipulated fought to have him released. These things should be like a bail bond. Sure, he can get out, but you're going to jail if he re-offends. Make them put something up if they re-offend. If they are so "reformed" then they wont worry about a 30 year sentence for being wrong, right? They arent going to break the law, so sign up for a prison sentence if they are so sure of it. let's see how many advocates there are left after they attach consequences to being wrong. 😅

I watched the original podcast with Sheldon. In my over 10 years experience working with convicted felons as a Correctional Officer, I could tell just by how Sheldon was talking that he had not reformed at all, and was clearly dodging responsibility for his original crimes. "Things happened" or "They got caught up" or "got touched up" is some CLASSIC criminal downplaying what they did to their victims. Also him claiming he never hurt the other guy while completely ignoring the fact the dudes who did beat the guy up were there under Sheldon's orders is crazy. Some of these guys, violence is ALL the know and the only way they solve problems. The reason he got such a long sentence the first time is because everything he did piled up AND he was stupid enough to reject the deal they offered him, KNOWING he was guilty of what he did. He's a piece of shit. While I admire Josh Dubin for attempting help out supposedly innocent people, maybe just leave guilty ones where they are at!

This is one of those episodes that actually got me upset at Joe Rogan. For all the complaining Joe does about progressive crime policy he sure as hell has the same conclusion as them half the time.

@@Pabloesc571private prison’s make about 8% of the entire prison population. Public prisons don’t make money they just have a budget from the state / federal level. The myth that prisons are all about profit is insane and requires someone to just blindly believe a narrative without being willing to do the slightest bit of research. It’s estimated that roughly 375 million is made each year in profit. That’s roughly $10/day per prisoner in profit for the 96,000 prisoners in private prisons. There’s 158 private prisons in the us. So each of them profits roughly 2m per year. To say this is “A lot” as if this is enough money to pay cops and judges and blah blah blah to conspire in this giant system to enslave Americans blah blah blah. It’s just silly. Is it good? No it’s not good. Is it the reason people are in jail? No. That would be because of the crimes they committed. Accountability is something that most prisoners don’t know anything about so of-course they latch onto this BS. I’ve managed to avoid jail for 30 years by simply not doing anything that land me in jail. Isn’t that odd? Like if you just don’t commit crimes you dramatically reduce the chances you’ll ever see the inside of a jail cell.

Josh is really just an unintelligent and delusional person. Sheldon is an individual who had his core beliefs, morals and values instilled into him as a child by a crack addicted, drug dealing sex offender. At one time in this interview Josh suggested that maybe Sheldon committed this offence after being released because he (Josh) wasn't diligent enough about encouraging Sheldon to speak to a therapist once a week. That shows such a ridiculous inability to grasp the reality of the situation its bizarre.

I’m not going to get in to the specifics of Sheldon’s case, obviously more should’ve been done, but criminal justice is a complex subject that probably doesn’t benefit from the speculation of random commenters. As for the part about Joe’s guests never being able to take responsibility for anything, I totally agree, but I think the issue lies more with Joe’s inability to provide push back or ask deep, critical questions while interviewing the vast majority of his guests.

You’d figure that he would’ve came to that realization after all those long night in his cell . He didn’t . Then he was talking about the prison politics and code he operated under while in prison and it just didn’t sound like a guy that did much self reflection and growth. In the third model, offenders incarcerated for more than 120 months were approximately 45 percent less likely to recidivate relative to a comparison group receiving less incarceration” So possibly there’s a specific statistic he is referring to that could be correct.
