Handbag Clinic specializes in cleaning and restoring handbags. CEO Charlotte Staerck explains how a very moldy bag is deep cleaned. The process involves scraping mold away, killing the source of the mold with a mold remover, and cleaning the bag with a water-based leather cleaner. To avoid mold, Staerck recommends storing handbags in a clean, dry environment and cleaning them regularly.

Guys keep in mind this is a DEEP CLEAN, not a Restauration. There is a big difference. To make the bag look "brand new" aka even replace parts or stain the leather would be whole other process. They hygienically cleaned the bag. They didn't restore it to an optically pristine condition.

And mold creates spores. Some mold forms hard layers to protect its nucleus. Respiratory gear should have been worn. Prior to the scraping, antibacterial chemicals should have been allowed to penetrate and soak through to destroy the mold. Saddle soap and leather conditioner should have been applied to the bag. This was not one of your better jobs.

Well I only say the bag was saved when I see it one year later and after getting moist again through use for example rain .I doubt the mold under the handle attachment was killed off completely. And the spores attach to the lining too .For people at home just brush it with a nylon brush and soak it in vinegar essence 25% alcohol 25 % 50% distilled water. And I mean soak it .Dry it .Spray it with a disinfectant that is not alcohol based bit micro(fill in blank /mikrobielle) .Clean with saddle soap .Spray again with disinfectant and then condition the leather with a purely synthetic leather oil so you don't reintroduce a oil that can oxidise

Acid or alcohol. For most case you can use vinegar mostly found in a kitchen. But again you should be familiar with cleaning leather before doing things like in the video. After removing the mold, it is better to clean the leather goods with saddle soap and recondition it with leather cream or oil and polish it with leather polish products. Hope this help.

This is a lot of BS. Kill the mold using a soft toothbrush dipped in white vinegar or lemon juice then wash with saddle soap using again a soft tooth brush. Then after it dries apply a leather conditioner. It will turn out better than your method and without all the pretense and the need of an "artisan"

Mold is always present in the air. It just needs water, time and a good substrate to grow. Burst water pipe soaking leather in a closed wardrobe is just about perfect. The more that mold can be in the dark and have little air circulation, the faster it grows. Once it gets going, exponential growth happens. All the visible stuff is the "fruiting body" - the part that produces 35 million spores / square inch! but most of the mold, the "hyphae" are root like filaments that exist inside the leather matrix. Removing only the surface mold is just like picking a dandelion without pulling out the root. Except mold will only grow again if exposed to enough humidity. That bag is still saturated with mold.
