From Coach: "Perfect weekend companion. Inside and outside pockets. Adjustable strap." This is the bigger cousin to the early Compact Pouch. It's a perfect everyday bag with a back pocket and generous space for all the essentials.
And it was like somebody threw up on it! Watch how I restored this beauty using tried-and-true leather restoration and repair techniques.

Hi Lyssa thanks for your wonderful videos. I love them so much. However I’m reading a lot of research online that is saying do not use shoe polish on handbags because it can cause wax buildup and transfer to your clothes. I have already bought the shoe polish. And I was looking forward to using it. Have you had any difficulties with it transferring to your clothes?

@@ronnibryant7863 I use a 1/4 cup of vinegar in the cold water wash to sanitize my clothes. I recently read it also will help dissolve the excess build up of coating from dryer sheets that is not good for clothes so it will probably do the same for wax .

Saddle soap, the glycerin kind don't use Dawn detergent please she is so wrong on this and if a bag is really dry like that you can use some linseed oil soak a rag get the rag on the leather to let it soak in take your hair dryer heat the leather up it opens the pores on the leather the oil will soak in then coat it with a saddle soap and then a light brushing with a soft shoe shine brush should have been done you don't soak a leather bag in water there is no need to do that unless it's absolutely disgusting and stinks

Great job restoring this classic shoulder bag. The point is to restore the bag, not necessarily make it look brand new. My late father was in the US Cavalry at the start of WWII and would tell me how they would care for the saddles - a bit of wear only makes it look better - he would say. He always took time out to preserve all of our leather goods growing up and I continue this practice today. I have Coach and Lara bags that are 40 years old and still look great - not showroom perfect, but I wouldn't trade them for all the $500 bags in the world. Kudos 😊

I bought a $30 leather bag from Penney's about 30 years ago. I kept it cleaned, conditioned, and people I met complimented me on my "Coach" bag! I simply said "thank you". Knowing how to care for what you buy, like our Elders did, is thrifty and wise. I ended up giving it away a little while ago to someone who worked on, and sews leather. We agreed on it's a lot to do with what its made of, and how it's done. Burkin, Coach, etc. are expensive and "niche" clientele, but I could never buy something that just sits around...just to say I own one! Beautiful job!!! Hope it gets loved and used often.

I use saddle soap to clean leather. I like the brush work, it spares produce. To finish it off I use a more oily leather wax for protection, but that will make it shine for a while. I use a cloth to put on the leather conditioner but I like how you do it so gently and sparsely. I do think it is a waste to not keep a good leather bag - or shoes and coats for that matter - in a good state. Thankfully there is still hope for neglected leather products. Love the result!

I never even did this for my English horse bridles, and they could get so gungy......so you are super brave! I’ve done this! It’s scary the first time (well, every time), but these bags were originally described as “glove leather.” I always thought that meant thin leather like fine ladies’ gloves, so it didn’t make sense to me. Turns out, the original owner of Coach was a baseball fan. “Glove leather” means *baseball* glove leather. They’re definitely worth restoring. If I’d seen this bag for sale I would’ve jumped on it! What a great project!

My grandmother got me started repairing and reusing everything I could over 70 years ago. We would take worn out pants and make shorts. The usual things but she also taught me to look at how things are made so when you take them apart you know how to replace them and in what order. Whether it be simple mechanical repairs, rewiring lamps or replacing faucets to save a few pennies I can still hear my grandmother's mantra: use it up or wear it out make it do or do without". That mantra has served me well!
