@@godwinejiofor8064 You need to reason like the Chinese, not like Santa Claus or St Peter. Africa for Africans means an end to foreign exploitation and capital flight from Africa. A Pan Africanist outlook that makes African interests the centrepiece of policy development on the continent. Prioritise, consolidate and expand intra-African trade and commerce to grow internal GDP and raise living standards. THIS IS WHAT OTHER RACES DO.
@danny96422 жыл бұрын
I think what technology is doing to Nigerian and African society is phenomenal - creating jobs, educating people and channeling transparency. And I hope the ecosystem continues to develop. But there needs to be strong regulations in order for these to be sustainable. Given Nigeria cultural openness and demographics. Some capitalist in other part of the world think it is okay to use software to neo-colonise Nigeria. So I hope that the data of Nigeria citizens are protected and stored in Nigerian servers. With what is going on with Facebook and other big tech giants (including the upcoming ones). Let’s try to build privacy, security and regulations into development effort especially when working with foreign companies. Everyone always sees Africa as a place to exploit and devalue (even if Africa feeds the world) so let’s try to keep our tech borders close to new exploiters too. I also do not think we have to call it Nigeria Silicon Valley. Talent city sounds fine without Americanising it.
@injoymifrontera2 жыл бұрын
the capitalist title is irrelevant imo, africa will be booming due to foreign capitalist endeavors from individuals or countries. data is just organized information, and people are information. what tech companies do today w/ it is to build better products/services for us to use. as long as they keep innovating and reaching untouched regions of the world, life will only get better. as long as those in top tier tech spaces are reminded that we are all human, capitalism will punish non-innovative products/services for not bettering people.
@danny96422 жыл бұрын
@@injoymifrontera I don’t see in my comment where I mentioned that I am against the current mode of funding businesses and startups - which is venture capital. I only mentioned that data, privacy and tough regulations needs to be in place in order to prevent people from using data to neo-colonize or cause mayhem in countries or cities. You are living on earth and you must have heard of Cambridge Analytica and many other scandal where tech companies acted irresponsible. Better not to comment than write something that says nothing.

@@danny9642 I didnt mean to signal the idea of you being against anything, but the idea of neo-colonialism is what i should’ve mentioned that isnt a big of a problem as it might seem because of the past. I think everyone can agree we dont want richer entities taking advantage of other regions on earth solely for their gain. there is already a positive-sum game building in africa and we are seeing it everywhere.
@olumideoyeniran49592 жыл бұрын
@danny, Our data isn't stored on Nigerian servers. All popular cloud platforms are owned by companies outside Nigeria. They also replicate the data across different data centers (for redundancy). Meaning if they were to open data centers in Nigeria, their service levels require replication outside Nigeria. They already have a lot of our data, every online service you sign up for, it's your data they are collecting. They will always want more sha and when (if) we successfully silo off our data, the gate keepers will see how profitable it can be freewheeling said data. Besides would you want your data completely under the control of our beloved government (which will happen with Nigerian based data centers)
