Honestly, he's not even that good. If he doesn't play wide on the left, he's pretty ineffective. His La Liga numbers haven't been amazing and he hasn't really done it on the international stage with Brazil. Having a few fine games in the latter stages of the Champions League isn't what we were used to when Messi and Ronaldo were winning the Ballon d'Or because they were remarkably consistent across a whole year racking up huge numbers. I don't agree with the outrage over Rodri winning it. There was no crystal clear winner which is unusual. We might see a lot more of that in years to come. Sure Michael Owen won a Ballon d'Or in 2001...somehow.

Vinicius is a very exceptional player. He dribbling and playmaking is one of the best in his position. He has a good left foot (weak foot), and is an impressive finisher. If we count his overall goal contributions last season he had 37 ga in 39 games. Also, last season Vinicius wasn't only a left wing. In fact Ancelotti changed the position of Vinicius to a free roam centre forward alongside rodrygo which saw him drift central and right more often, than Jude would play and a cam/cm. So yes, Vinicius can indeed play well even in a different position. Not to mention the fact that in the Brazil national team he drops deep into more midfield areas to accommodate for the lack of quality in the midfield.
