"So, " Chaitar said, "your species considers getting up with the left foot first, starting the day wrong? How does eating breakfast help with that?" Ziltrax hissed, "And Humans consume the unhatched young of another species for breakfast?"

Before agriculture, it took many hunters to bring down large game. This was more efficient than each person trying to hunt and trap their own small game. After agriculture, it took many people to produce grain and raise animals for food. Cooking for many is more efficient than cooking for 1. Eating while socializing is multitasking. It's actually very efficient use of time.

Eating together comes from hunter gathering tribes. Food was collected for everyone, and if everyone wasn't eating together, someone could have been stealing from the group. Which is why we feel guilty about eating when others aren't. Our instincts are saying we are harming the group by keeping food to ourselves.

I like the concept of this story, but the robotic voice delivering very little inflection and a lot of improper pacing seems to exacerbate a sense of repetitiveness in the narrative. The aliens are confused. Breakfast is more than survival. The aliens are confused. Breakfast is more than a ritual. The aliens are confused. All of the alien dialogue is probing, all of the human dialogue is expository, and the voice simply makes the lack of dynamics in the characters' conversation all the more stark. I like the actual voice better than many others, but its skill-level in narration leaves much to be desired.
That why the AI has no time. He is stressed because there is to reading the next Story...and dont forgett AI is not paid.😅 I slowed down an 0.75 speed. I'm not an nativ speaker.

I'm sorry: I considered stopping this story in the first half, and only finished to see if my impressions were justified. The photosynthesizing creatures would not need to absorb light away from others, it is most likely a very passive activity, and doing so in groups would help build social connections. Every non-human in the room having evolved a metabolism that provided the same sense of being ready to face tasks whether about to starve to death or three bites short of a food coma seems a great way for them to starve to death because they did not correctly judge their consumption needs seems silly. Gathering to reflect on the day is more of a dinner activity, with breakfasts often accompanied by coffee consumption by many to help shake off sleep. Few people at breakfast are feeling contemplative that soon after waking up, especially because they have not accomplished much since they last regained consciousness. She should not assume that breakfast is very similar to sitting in the oceans of another's homeworld. Serving the same meal to the whole class risks poisoning many of them, and why do the photosynthesizing aliens have mouths? No one's biology found the food actively distasteful, or violently rejected by their system? Was there an avian species present to which you could explain where you get the eggs for scrambling? You really tried, and you wanted things to work out into a "we're not that different" moment for the aliens, but it really does not work. The non-human characters seem to just be there to be fascinated by an organic being taking in sustenance.
