No faking no mindgame (even if they can be a bit manipulative for food😼) but if you have something they need, the moment they see their is no danger they'll befriend you, especially if they can tel by your smell you have good intentions. After all there is a reason we say the cat choosing you xD Humans... that's an other story, we have social norms, education, life context, a lot of internal questionning on consequences, etc, so the insctinct is here but pretty dulled by all of that. So you're right and in the same time it's pretty context dependant the result is very dependant on these other stuff 😊. Cat's are very independant but once they decided you're their "special human" you're in for a lifetime relationship.

Lots of ppl in Turkey have sort of "public" stray cats. They are stray cats, but get fed regularely and sometimes also have their own small hut built for them. Same with street dogs. In Istanbul you can see this everywhere...

Well, that's the issue for me... I really enjoy seeing cats outdoor, in a lovely and safe natural place like this one, where there are other cats and where they are free to roam around and explore safely. I did that once: took a 2-year-old cat used to the outdoors, and then locked it inside an apartment. It wasn't a stray cat, it was my cat... we just moved from a house in the outskirts to an apartment in the city center...and the cat was never the same: it really felt like the cat was going insane locked inside the apartment after growing the first 2 years roaming in the fields near hour house; but the city outdoors scared him too much; and walking on a leash also never worked, so it had to stay locked inside. To help "tame" its random bursts of insanity moments of running around the house meowing loudly, jumping into tables, counters, door frames (scratching them while sliding down the frame!)... I did agree to neuter it, thinking it would bring a bit more peace inside the apartment... but to no avail, and it only made me feel worse about what I did to the point of swearing to never do it again, at least not in the same conditions.

Through my teens every time I walked to school / to my job I would see two cats sitting on the bench in front of their house. One full black and one black and white. They were fed outside by someone but weren’t allowed in ever so always chilling there. Me and my brother gave them names and we’d always pet and they would come to us for pets. And then after a lot of years the full black one wasn’t there anymore. It takes a few months to really believe he passed you know? Shortly after the tuxedo was never to be seen again as well. Very sad
