I saw a similar one up close in person. They could go where normally only a jet ski could go.

Not sure if this is a dumb question but I can’t find the answer anywhere. Can you run a jet outboard in a marsh? I’d assume all vegetation would just get sucked up the intake and cause problem.

What’s the best way you have found for securing your outboard jet while trailering? I have a 115/80 merc on my Alumaweld, it has the slide and the friction knob but it still swings a bit on turns down the road. Any tips would be great, thanks! Love the channel.

@@SANES313 I installed a ring bolt in my transom tray and then run either a really short section of bungee cord or a short chain in between the tiller and bolt. Works great to keep it from swinging 👍

Great video. In your experience best to have Tiller or center steering? I now have a G3 with steering cable at console. Kind of cumbersome Never seen a tiller motor on a jet.

Hey thank you Dave. I personally prefer a tiller because it opens up the entire deck of the boat.

Takes some getting used to, of course. I’ve ran a tiller most of my life so it comes naturally. Wouldn’t take long to get dialed in though. Best of luck to you!

So, what is pros and cons? As I understand, that kind of motor could be used where propeller can't operate (for example, much underwater plants growing). But are there any specific problems and disadvantages?
@silasvongsamath6500

I feel the channel should’ve touched on these topics also, horse power and fuel mileage. Jet drives have ability to run basically anywhere props can’t and that’s shallow-shallow within inches. Sand, mud, and gravel, where there’s water, it should go. Grass, debris, and rocks can get stuck in the grate and like the video says, cavitation occurs and needs to be cleared before continuing. Outboards that come standard with a prop lower unit will lose approximately 30% horse power due to water travel through and out the propulsion system. That’s why you see HP ratings such as 150/105, 115/80, 90/65 jet drive, so on and so forth. Fuel mileage also goes down, I don’t know exact numbers but it’s significant enough you’ll notice. Need to find your sweet spot of RPM and speed to squeeze out the most of your gallons per hour. The harsher your river conditions and what gets sucked into your impeller, you’ll have to sharpen the impeller blades or you lose peak performance. You’ll also have to grease your jet pump housing before every trip on river. These are just a couple things off the top of my head.

One thing I don't think got mentioned is that to run a boat like that in mere inches of water, you've got to be up on plane, which also means you've got to be going pretty fast. If you start backing off on your speed, the stern will drop and your intake will start munching on gravel, mud or whatever the bottom's comprised of. If you get hung up on a gravel bar, then you have to try to get yourself, and your large boat, off of it. There's getting to be a couple of companies now, selling inflatable boats, that address these issues. You're still up on plane at half throttle, and if you do get stuck, it's a lot easier to deal with. Also, underwater vegetation will plug the intakes, just like other materials.

I am curious, did this boat have UHMW on the bottom? Just wondering since I have an older (mid 90's) 17' JetCraft Salmon Master with an 80 HP outboard. Unfortunately I don't have a tunnel. I am looking forward to getting out on the rivers here in Georgia very soon...
@live2boat
@live2boat Жыл бұрын
No UHMW on this boat. That’s a toss up on a jet boat at least in my opinion. It adds weight and drag. If it’s fastened properly it can be a big benefit but it’s darned difficult to fasten it perfectly to where it doesn’t warp and/or slow the boat down.
