Thats true for almost all countries around the world. Some far, far more than others. But indeed its a really shitty situation. I think we should just ban children and grandchildrrn of politicians or civil service from standing in elections (or even the children of billionares) But thatll be against the constitution. Better to strengthen transparency in politics by forcing parties to give elected candidates (intra party) higher positions

The Princelings are NOT a faction. That's a term to describe the Sons of former revolutionaries and Xi Jinping is also considered a Princeling because his father was Xi Zhongxun, The main factions are the Jiang Zemin (Shanghai) faction and the Communist Youth League faction (CYL). Bother factions have had their influenced reduced by Xi who creating his own faction informally known as the Zhejiang Faction
@christianv-h3278
@christianv-h3278 2 жыл бұрын
Isn't there also the Li Keqiang faction? Even though Li himself is stepping down next year, his faction is nonetheless rather powerful and was considered to be rivaling Xi's influence.
@deezeed2817
@deezeed2817 2 жыл бұрын
@@christianv-h3278 No he's also CYL, Basically remember it like this. 1) Jiang Zemin (Shanghai Faction): Those guys who were close to Jiang and were promoted by him when he was head party boss in Shanghai. These guys favour big business and the big cities. Jiang used to have alot of influence but at his age that influence has waned especially after the 17th party congress, It's believed that the unofficial head is Zeng Qinghong but given he's also retired and some key members were purged in the great anti-corruption campaign until Xi then this factions influence has been reduced significantly. 2) Communist Youth League (Tuanpai Faction): Are those guys who worked their way up and had no connection to former revolutionaries. They are more technocratic and pragmatic and tend to favour market reforms over state run industries. The last president Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao are both Tuanpai. Li Keqiang belongs to this faction and they reformists. For example after Wuhan and China came out of this Covid crisis in 2020 Li was proponent of the night stall economy to stimulate the economy which wasn't favoured by Xi who wanted to move away from this kind of petite-bourgeois economy that was characteristic of China during the 80's to 00's. But given the situation he was able to push forward his ideas. 3) Xi Jinping (Zhejiang Faction): Like Jiang Zemin, Xi Jinping also promoted his own guys when he was party boss of Zhejiang however unlike Jiang, Xi Jinping is far more ideological and nationalistic. He believes in reasserting the state over private industry and has a grand vision of much more socialist China which will still pursue market reforms (i.e The Hainan free trade port) however his ultimate vision is of a country which most Marxists can relate to which is less based on private enterprise and more based on common ownership and of a country that is more focused on living in balance with nature over the interests of capital (i.e. Xiong'An new area). It's important to understand that these factions are not opposition parties. All party members ultimately must stay loyal to the party's goals, charter and respect the unity of the party under the core leadership of the General Secretary. Every member that sits in Politburo and Standing Committee adheres to Dengism and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. The only time the party was under threat of being split was after Mao's death and the rise and fall of the Gang of four. Those who reject the ideas of the modern Communist Party of China are known as Marxist-Leninist-Maoists and take what is known as an "anti-revisionist" stance. They are the far left radicals who believe in exporting revolution across the entire global south. You have other tendencies like Maoist-Third Worldists who are radically anti-capitalist and completely reject aligning themselves with even the working class of 1st world countries who they see as bribed by capital or reactionary. These are the guys who long disappeared from the party and were the last elements to pose a threat to the party itself. Today China is firmly under Xi's leadership and there's no reason to think that Xi will face any real threat to serving another term. It's also suicidal to even try to form cliques that would threaten party unity as such elements would be immediately dealt with and any coup plotters would be rooted out by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Certain party members have fallen out of line for numerous reasons (E.g Bo Xilai) however the party itself is a well oiled machine, It will continue unless there's weak leadership and party members become disillusioned and suffer low morale.

Xi is a princeling because his father was famous, however he cannot be compared with Bo Xilai since Xi rejected and denounced his father and rose to the top with purely hard work. 1:50 hmm... your depiction of the CYL (Tuanpai) sounds alright, but I'm not sure if you can describe the Princelings as a political group like that... a Princeling is a Chinese politician defined but as a child of another Chinese politician. The son of the Tuanpai Wen Jiabao for example is a princeling, but chances are he thinks like his father. What it sounds like you're describing is the Shanghai Clique which is indeed full of Princelings who were appointed by it's leader Jiang Zemin, but ofc is not just a collection of all the Princelings. The Shanghai Clique is (or was... or what's left of it is) indeed full of proponents of the economic growth focus over the Tuanpai's socioeconomic concerns. But Bo Xilai was not part of the Shanghai Clique. In fact you can probably say he was the furthest thing from it. Bo was one of the pioneers/crusaders of the Chinese New Left (which Xi Jinping is a part of), which has very much detested the Dengist neoliberal-ish politics Jiang wheeled in in the 90's. The New Left is very much concerned with the maintenance of Mao-reminiscient socialist principles in China and consequently the rollback of much Deng Xiaoping Thought-led reform (like you address in 3:50 and 4:50). Actually many of the Shanghai Clique cronies have been imprisoned by Xi's New Left anti-corruption campaigns. Now this doesn't preclude you from saying that Bo Xilai himself prioritized economic growth if you want to (I don't know that claim to be wrong necessarily) but, 1. his clique was more of the New Left than the Princelings (which isn't a clique to begin with really) and 2. I don't know how accurate it would then be to say that the New Left as a whole particularly prioritizes economic growth really.

doesn't really matter tbh, the topic is China's poltician corruption, and the fact that they are damn rich while only having meager wages, if you want to plant a conspiracy on british intelligence, China has been doing that to the US for years, at this point it who says who.

@@nunyabz9494 I'm not sure. What's important is that this moment determined the current state of affairs. Bo was seen as the upcoming PM, Xi wasn't. After that everything changed. Bo was seen as less capitalist than Xi. One of the main thing Xi did was to open the stock market to foreign investments which was favorable to western interests.
