I never knew this! I’ve been using my crockpot since the 70’s. So great to fill it in the morning with raw ingredients, then enjoy a hot meal prepared while I was at work. So ❤️ the Sorry Girls! Good to see you here.

The one benefit of the newer crackpots over the original is the removable insert. The original ones were difficult to clean because of the non removable crock. I use my crockpot during canning season for making applesauce, apple butter, tomato sauce or anything else where I don't want to "stir frequently to prevent burning". If I don't want to can the finished product right away, I just turn the pot to warm until I'm ready.

My mom had a crockpot, usually used for big holiday family dinners. Saw a Tappan microwave in mid 70’s and that one you had to turn the plate for even heating. Then I got a manual crock pot, first time made beef stew and boyfriend had practically all of it. Then years later I gave it away, cause of getting caught up in the Insta Pot craze. However, I was saved from getting one for I’ve had found a Crock Pot brand Crock Pot Express Multi Cooker, 6 quart size. From manual to electronic, I’m scared of it. So used to the manual ones.

Crock Pots are so safe that I provided them to my blind clients to use for most of their cooking needs which helped them retain their independence.

Oh no! I bought a new one yesterday. The finish on the old one I was using for the last 20 years was starting to wear away so I thought that might not be a very healthy addition to my soups.

While microwaves had been invented at that time. Most homes didn't have them yet. I know my family got their first microwave in the late 80s. I think Crock-Pots were really popular as a safer option compared to pressure cookers, which had been in most homes for quite a while. It didn't cook fast, but you also didn't need to keep an eye on it.

Vilnius is not (and was not at the time) a "small village" but the capital city of Lithuania and, although it was one of the major cities of the Jewish European population before WWII, it was never "predominantly Jewish" .
