4/2/23; ..hey Trenta fabulous work on that veneer Cedar chest...don't know how you have the patients to deal with both super delicate thin veneer & also strip/neutralize, sand & refinish regular/thicker dimension surfaces. Beautiful craftsmanship! Your finished pieces look factory-new & perfect! Then their is your professional filming; lighting, staging (1/2 surface before, during & after stripping), closeups & your choice of 🎶 light & soft piano background. Total production excellence! A+👏👍✅️🍷🤗

I feel like I've been on a spirituality therapeutic adventure after watching and "absorbing" each and every one of your videos. I am and have always been a very diverse craftsman, mostly wood based ... but far from exclusively. I have an insatiable need to constantly expand my knowledge , comprehension and abilities in every subject that I am drawn to. That being said, I have not "once", watched your videos without gaining something I can apply in my endeavors. Furthermore ... The music selections, the excellent camera work and quality, flawless editing and the overall cadence of the experience your video productions present is actually your signature. It qualifies as an artform. I know this is long winded, but compared to the amount of time you must invest in each video... it is easily worth me sharing my gratitude in this manner. Thanks Trena, and John's Furniture Repair !!!

I find your ability to adjust colors to match the original I find that is one of your skills i the most jealous of! Thanks more good entertainment that beats watching regular TV getting educated! Thank you again! The first I do when I log on is to see if you have posted a new video. Is your new shop going to be larger my guess is after working in the shop you originally built, the new shop will be setup so it will be more efficient! Thank you for the instructions and the good entertainment appreciated by all your loyal fans! I’m waiting to be able to get a Johns Furniture Repair Tee shirt, please set something like that for your fans. It would be a great opportunity for children to get involved with. Good night! Bob

With the music you played it is so relaxing watching you work when you get to sanding, staining and straight stripping (furniture that is only) you treat like you do the more more difficult stuff which must be part of why your work is so wanted by everyone! Years ago, a friend's parents were moving and had a trunk just about like this one shown here that was being tossed. I readily accepted it and knew I could restore it to like-new condition. It looked to have inlaid veneers creating interesting patterns of wood and a cedar lined inside. I applied stripper and knew almost instantly I had made a really big mistake. The intricate patterned inlay work dissolved to reveal the base coat primer for doing faux-wood grain effects. I was saddened to say the least, but it turned out to be an attractive cedar wood trunk, just without all the patterning that got me interested in the first place. Wish mine had turned out like this one of yours. Nice job.

When you have the reveal of all the work... the cedar trunk beamed with pride as if to say "Look at me... I'm glorious" another amazing restoration. I wish you were local to me as I have my father's work desk that has seen better days that I'd like to have restored, and while I'd attempt to do it myself, it wouldn't be like one of your restorations. You have all the right tools, equipment, chemicals, knowledge, etc. to do a credible job of it... and I couldn't imagine trusting it to anyone else. But I'm in the SF Bay Area and fat chance you're ever in my neck of the woods. Anyway, enough daydreaming... Fantastic job Trena as Always!!!

Trena, I enjoy your youtube channel and your work. Please don't take what I'm about to say as being critical of your work. I only wish the best for you. Many of these old cedar chests came with a special instruction sheet inside the bottom drawer stating that the purpose of the bottom drawer was for storage of documents, items made of certain metals and items containing natural rubber. The aromatics of cedar will degrade or destroy these types of items (and destroy ink). Therefore, there was no cedar in the construction of the lower drawer, specifically because of the effects of cedar on some materials. Please carry on and I wish you the very best in your upcoming move and new shop. Sincerely, John Wagner
@johnsfurniturerepair Жыл бұрын
Thanks John, yes I am aware of these certain types of drawers. But as you can see in the video the original drawer was cedar and the customer requested it to be cedar again. But i have definitely seen the type of chest you are referring too. It was actually annoying because cedar veneer is hard to get. Thanks for the input and for watching. Cheers!

@@johnsfurniturerepair Trena, Thank you for the quick reply. It makes sense. Could you tell me if that Cedar Chest is a "Lane" brand from here in the States. If so, with the Serial Number, the owner can go to their website and Lane will furnish a different lock, free of charge, to keep children from getting locked inside and potentially suffocating. Thanks again. Sincerely, John Wagner

Trena, this reminds me of my mom and dad's Art Deco waterfall bedroom set they had when I was growing up in the 50s (Yuppers, that makes me an old type fart 😁). They then saw some flat, underwhelming oak veneered furniture of the 60s, bought that and got rid of the Art Deco. They thought that was the way to go, but thinking back on it the original had so much more character and beauty, in my opinion anyway. Oh, how i wish I had their old bedroom set. Beautiful job and thank you again for sharing. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
