For years in Australia there has been a belief that all manufacturing has to be done in China where labour is cheap. Haltech disproves that. By investing in appropriate technology and product development as well as effective customer support, Australian companies can compete and thrive. Great video lads.

More manufacturing happens here than people think. Kenworth, Volvo and Mack trucks are still built here, granted not soup to nuts like Haltech does though. It would be nice if we still manufactured as much as we used to though.

There are bits and pieces.. trying to find someone to make the actual PCBs is pretty much impossible though(There are a few but good luck getting them to talk to you). It's one part that I suspect Haltech outsources. Though at the scale Haltech work they might be able to.

@@ElectraFlarefire like every other hobby sized electronics business in Australia, PCB's and components are probably still 99% coming from China. Haltech is far from running an E2E business here. But it is nice to at least see them trying to make an effort, even if it is only designed and assembled in Australia.

@David Pilbeam you are kidding yourself if you think we can compete with China on electronics production. They aren't manufacturing here, they are assembling here. There is a huge difference. And the only reason they can assemble here is because of the huge price tag that is on the Haltech. Haltech couldn't produce toasters and stay in business like they can in China, there just isn't enough margin in it. There might be $50 worth of components in an ECU and they charge thousands of dollars for it. That markup is what makes assembly in Australia possible.

It's crazy how much the MCM cinematic universe has grown. I remember what a fan favorite Scotty and Al were when they made their first appearances on MCM so many years back. While I don't know if these boys would have started their own channels independently of MCM's influence, I feel like MCM was the catalyst that directly and indirectly spawned some of the best automotive content around at the moment. I've learned so much from all these lads. Also, massive respect to Haltech going out of their way to manufacture ECUs in house rather than farming it out somewhere cheaper.

Never been a big fan of MCM but I’m forever grateful for introducing me to Al and Woody, Goleby, Scott and the rest. I’m pretty sure the 1JZTT in my Lexus happened as a result of all that, as well.

I actually assumed the assembly would have been handled externally, really awesome to see it isn't. Not a lot of companies in Australia doing in-house PCBA. Just another reason why Haltech is GOAT

@@impulsiveminds3537 It's not too bad if you have the volume to fill the line. Also, assembly costs on an industrial product like this are only marginally cheaper in China when you take into account quality control (ie brand reputation), design security (don't want clones to "magically" appear...) and general management overhead. Adding an extra $200 to a $2k product is well worth the cost to de risk the whole operation. Management don't always see it that way though!

Thanks for the tour guys! I’m in 30th year as a EE in the embedded systems world. Unfortunately, a lot of this design and assembly is being outsourced (I’m in the US.). I haven’t done real hardware design in almost 15 years. I feel bad for new engineers coming out of school. I hope that trend reverses. It’s so cool you do it all in-house. Someday, I’ll put a Haltech in one of my cars. I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen since seeing you on MCM way back. ❤

Started working at BRP Megatech (formerly Kongsberg Automotive Canada Plant) four months ago as a process engineer and the whole design and manufacturing is made in house. Only parts outsourced are the PCBs and the components. We get a lot of new guys right out of school. This gives me hope for the industry🙏

When it comes to Australia we have a few companies who do it all or most of it in-house. I worked recently for a place where the SMT department alone was crazy when compared to what is seen in this video. But it definitely is interesting to see how the smaller companies are setup and see what possibly the company I was working for might have also looked like when still at a smaller stage.

As a Brit I'd just like to say Haltech for me are the best company in the world. World leaders in what they do, but done with a tight team and great bond. The aftersales and long term support for older hardware goes against the grain, to all you Aussies you should be mad proud of them.

It makes me proud to have followed Haltech from the early days to now and see that they are still at the pointy end of the ECU game, and still making their products in house in Australia 👍🇦🇺👌 My old E6 ECU outlasted two Bluebird body shells and the Z18ET it was running. Truely a quality product!

Always a thrill to see how things are made by people who care. I assembled my own ECU from a kit several years ago before I even knew about Haltech, but it was for a 95 dodge magnum 5.9 and NOBODY makes parts for stuff. It’s all, okay mostly fabricating what you need or want. ECU was one of those things especially when you run eight sequential LS coils instead of one factory coil. Thanks for the tour Scott!

I must've owned one of the first Haltech products available in the late 90's. Been too long ago so I can't remember which model I bought. I think it came directly from Australia as well (I am in Tampa, about an hour from Cleetus' Freedom Factory). Used it to control my 3.1 GM v6 in my 92 Cavalier Z24 stickshift. It was such a fun little car.

I'm not Aussie (I'm American) but I will say that I have a HUGE amount of respect for your company for doing as much of the manufacturing in-house as possible instead of farming it out to a certain Asian country, a decision which employs more of your fellow Australians and helps your local businesses and your home economy. 👍 Your countrymen can be proud of ya' for keeping it local while maintaining such a high level of quality and customer service (I would argue that staying in-house largely enables that high quality and service level). I've known about Haltech since the early 00's when I first started getting into modding cars in depth, but it was always a bit out of my budget range at the time 😅. Being a bit older these days, and the complexity of my projects apparently growing in concert with my salary 😂😂 there is a good change I will be doing something with a standalone ECU in the future, and Haltech will easily be at the top of my list. The quality of product and service, the user-friendliness, and the engagement with the community via the information shared through videos like these and those on the Haltech KZbin channel are all a big reason why. Keep up the excellent work. And of course, big thanks to Skid Factory for bringing us along for the tour!
