Yes, he has a lot of helpful videos but that one is wrong. Blade has most efficient grip with ice when it has full contact with ice. When you put your skate on toe or heel you just increase pressure in paticular point of ice because of that you hear cracking sound. Especially it is dangerous on high speed in that case you just lose your edges and smash to a board🤷‍♀️

@Rossanderson-zm7ck 4 ай бұрын
Idk if I’m wrong but I think the emphasis on the toe/heal area was so you could hear it for emphasis for the kids he’s teaching might be wrong but a different perspective I’m no pro by any means tho so take this as you like

I had a spinal cord injury I’ve worked really long and hard to come back from. I’m finally starting to work on getting comfortable with my outside edges. Thought I was doing pretty well today until I caught it and went down while refereeing. Had to signal a good goal from my knees 😂

I was hit from behind and woke up face first into the ice. We had some bush league ref's for that game and they only called a 2. Next morning, I was paralyzed in the left leg, suffered a few crushed discs both in lower back and neck, permanent nerve damage, and a decent concussion from the hit. The surgeon and doctors told me I could never play hockey again. It took me roughly 5 years to learn how to scrunch my toes on the left side. a lot of rehab got me most of my mobility back, but certain things like putting a sock on the left side is a no go. Lastly, dear god the pain. The nerve pain mixed with the back pain now is a type of pain I wish on no one. Here is the shit kicker, since the ref's only called a 2, the player who did the dirty hit was not found liable in any sense. Even USA hockey said they could not help, even though they are an acting supplemental insurance for hockey players. My whole career was gone in an instant. I was a player, a coach, certified zamboni driver, and ice rink manager, all gone. It's good to hear you made it back to the ice!

Not sure how this guy got in my feed…HOWEVER, I now want to see a documentary, or series, or something. He’s old school in the way he talks and that’s needed today. Direct speech, almost zero emotion, focused attention, and not one ‘uh’, or ‘umm’, in the three shorts that I’ve seen so far. Well done Coach!

When I was a kid (10-11) in a clinic session, we had a a young teenage figure skater come in to teach us about skating. We all giggled and thought how is this girl going to teach us to be better hockey players. Well man o man she killed us and we all learned about edges that day.

This some cap. “Gripping the ice” actually slows you down, you don’t want to hear the ice crunch like that because it means you are crushing the ice and not gliding. When you glide on the ice that is what allow you to unlock your full skating potential. Think about it, would you rather crush ice or glide on top?

I just find it funny that anyone would need to be taught this way. If you think Bobby Orr had someone telling him to skate like this, you thought wrong lol. The majority of kids who are gonna make it to the NHL or be known for their skating abilities in general, don’t have to be taught it. It comes naturally. 😂
