How AC Milan TRANSFORMED Into Title Contenders!

Welcome back to Scout Report, where today we’re looking at how Milan have transformed into one of the most exciting teams in Europe, and have staked their claim for an unlikely Serie A title with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the charge, and players like Theo Hernandez, Ismael Bennacer and Hakan Calhanoglu turning into stars.
For seven consecutive seasons between 2013 and 2020, the Rossoneri failed to qualify for the Champions League, and only finished as high as 5th on one occasion, dropping as low as 10th in 2014-15, and failing to score as many as 60 goals until last season.
But following an impressive end to the 2019-20 campaign under the guidance of Stefano Pioli, the sleeping giants of Italy have finally awoken, and are very much the pacesetters of Serie A this season, topping the table after 10 games with zero defeats so far. There are a number of reasons why the prestigious club are doing so well right now, but we’ve whittled it down to three key factors - the club’s excellent recruitment under Ivan Gazidis, the superb management of Stefano Pioli, and of course the world class form of 39 year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

They are linked with all of those signings, and if made, they with Inter are probably the favourites to win the title, with Inter having slightly higher chances.

This is such a perfect video explaining the overall structural change Milan has done internally. I was especially impressed with how you guys were able to compare previous seasons and give context to how *bad* the club have been run. It makes the work of Maldini, Massara, Moncada & Gazidis look even more impressive and it can't be overstated how well they've done so far. The goal isn't even to win the league but to get top 4, yet that now doesn't seem entirely impossible. If Milan fans from 1 year ago - when they lost 5-0 to Atalanta - could see where they are now, they would never believe it.

That being said Milan has always been a team that performs better during few decisive matches, rather than just going ham every game in the league...that's why we have 7 UCL and Juve just 2 UCL, despite them being a top team for 30 years straight. I'd prefer Milan wins the Europa League and qualifies for UCL next year...pretty sure that would have a psychological impact on our opposition too...going from banter team to legit UCL contenders in 2 years is fucking scary.

The reason Andre Silva was sold for 3 million euros was due to rebic being bought for 5 million by Milan. Fiorentina had a 50% sale on clause for rebic and creative accounting by keeping the fees low gave both Frankfort/Milan the most benefit. His agent is Notorious Mino Riaola who is also the agent of Donnarumma and Ibrahimovic. His serie a connection brought De ligt to Juventus and maybe Haaland could follow the same path, ofcourse Juventus is more attractive than Inter or Milan but the project at Milan must look like a very tempting opportunity as well. too many damn games. they've been playing in europe and in italy every 3 days. had to qualify to europa league 3 preliminary round games. They played a lot of minutes and pioli could of done better job rotating

Im so happy to see my club Inter and a rival club Milan go back to the top where they belong , personally Im 100% rooting for Inter and want to win the Serie A this season after losing out on it last season from just 1 point . Currently Milan sit on top of the table with a 1 point difference between us and Milan but hopefully Inter will be the winners at the end of the season however even if AC Milan wins it at the end I'll be really happy to finally see someone other than Juventus win it .

Very good analysis mate... congrats. Just a couple of comments: (i) A. Silva was only formally sold for 3m... as basically Milan got in return Rebic (valued around 32m from Transfermarkt) substantially at the same price (the reason for this is that E. Frankfurt had an old agreement with Fiorentina to give back to them 50% of proceeds from a future sale... so they pushed Milan for these unreal formal valuation of the two players)...so... it's more realistic to say that Milan purchased Silva for 38m and sold him for around 32m (plus the 2m they recevied from Seville for the loan the year earlier)... so in total Milan should have lost 3-4m on him; (ii) the main effect for this reinassance I think is Maldini.... a pure quality person and professional... who is finally able to recognize real talent in players... especially young players.... and with his calm charisma is able to handle and manage the situation in the club. Under the Galliani reign Milan played 9 final of the champions league in 30 years... unbelievable results... but they were used to purchase only big stars dominating the euopean transfermarkt.... it's much more difficult what Maldini is doing.... with less money than other big clubs and trying to recognize talent where other clubs are not betting (see Theo and Diaz with Real MAdrid... or Bennacer and Hauge from small clubs)
