As someone with ADHD and someone who has used Aderall daily since 4th grade, I couldn’t imagine stopping it cold turkey after using it for decades. Even as a Yankees fan, Davis was one of my favorite players growing up because of his openness about ADHD. Great video

The withdrawal from Vyvanse, when I could no longer afford the co-pays, was 4 days from Hades with the worst splitting headache imaginable. Adderall works better for me than Vyvanse ever did. I read where way more than 33% of tennis players on the ATP tour have an Adderall TUE - a Spanish player recently got a 2-month suspension when he forgot to get his MD note. It's too bad MLB is so totally Neanderthal when it comes to legitimate ADD/ADHD diagnoses and an RX script for Adderall.
@Demoralized88
@Demoralized88 Жыл бұрын
Vyvanse basically converts to Adderall and only exists because it can't be snorted/injected like Adderall, thus has (theoretically) less abuse potential. despite being in the same most restricted drug class (Schedule II). Adderall is about half Dextroamphetamine and Levoamphetamine, while Vyvanse is a prodrug that converts to Dextroamphetamine when taken orally. Dextroamphetamine is one of the oldest Rx amphetamine stimulants and is also still prescribed. It makes no sense to TUE Vyvanse and not Dexedrine (Dextroamp), Adderall, Ritalin, or any of the other Sched II Stimulants prescribed for ADHD.
@Demoralized88
@Demoralized88 Жыл бұрын
@@brucerorty4014 Adderall also works better for me and when I tried Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine) as Vyvanse produces, I think it actually made me more tired somehow. The Levoamphetamine of Adderall is known to be more broad-acting on the CNS than Dex's mostly mental effects. All that said, Adderall is the only drug I've taken that I experience zero withdrawal effects from despite it being by far the most helpful for me.

I agree with you 100% I remember a lightbulb moment at the plate as a kid. Everytime I would remember to physically say out loud to myself "look at the ball" I would get solid contact. I just turned 30 and was diagnosed with ADD a few years ago and was prescribed Adderall but lived the rest of my life never getting examined by a physician for this medical condition.. and i can tell you it made the biggest difference and i regret not doing it when I was a kid.. My teachers knew I was highly intelligent and would ace the first test in every class at the beginning of the school year but then my grades would immediately crash to Ds the rest of the semester because I would get distracted by the social life of school and partying and it felt like my mind was constantly all over the place and i could never focus on multiple school subjects.. Im also someone who thought being on prescription drugs was for weak people and it meant you were a crazy person.. I was so wrong and if you have a doctor's prescription you should 100% be allowed to take the medication..

You just described me to a t, except I was diagnosed at 34. The saddest part IMO, is that I let myself believe the stuff everyone was saying... "If you just try harder and apply yourself, you would succeed." So I lived my entire childhood, adolescence, and young adult life truly believing that I was just lazy and that I COULD just fix it if I tried harder... But I felt so helpless because every attempt to try harder was a failure. I knew about ADHD... But I always assumed those people just had it much worse than I did... Nope. I had it just as bad as anyone else, and my failure to focus or follow routines or remember basic tasks weren't a result of laziness. I hope that never happens to anyone else again, but I know it will. so instead I hope that this comment resonates with someone who has been beating themselves up for their whole life... Go talk to someone and see if rx stimulants (there's way more than just Adderall) might help. It's life changing.

In 2009, while racing for his own team, he was suspended for violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy. Nice job dude, I agree with you. I was born with ADHD and have delt with it my whole life, I tried medication once and never did it again as it felt odd. However, the levels of ADHD are extremely wide when it comes to how severe certain people suffer from it and believe it or not. It's such a weird and complex thing to have. Trust me. They are finding that some of the diagnosis's are hereditary but are also developed do to a lack of key nutrients for the brain in diet and also environmental/lifestyle factors. Not good sleep and high screen time is one of those plaguing kids today. One of the key things with ADHD that is assumed is the lack of ability to focus. When in reality, it's actually the opposite. ADHD has a huge ability to what they call "Hyper Focus" but only when the brain or the person finds that thing they are willing to focus on worth the stimulation or stimulating enough to keep their focus on that. Otherwise, if it isn't stimulating enough, then the brain just looks for the thing that will be instead of focusing on what's in front of them. But, that's different for a lot of folks with ADHD depending on the severity. For me, baseball is one of those. That was my one thing I could absolutely without fail hyper focus on and it was obvious to everyone I knew. I'm extremely passionate about my family, friends and loved ones and God. I try to put my energy into those things and unlock that and be more aware of it. However, Chris seemed to suffer from a very high form of ADHD and it showed in his play and also your digging into his mishaps with all the MLB stuff. MLB needs to stay out of things like that when its proven a player has that type of diagnosis and let the player and his doctor discuss courses of treatment with in MLB's guidelines of okay to use substances. Punishing him for it was really weird unless they found evidence proving he lied about having ADHD. Doesn't seem likely though.

MLB screwed him over. I’ve taken Adderall every day for 10 years and completely agree that the withdrawal symptoms can change your personality overnight. I know anyone that also takes it daily will swear by this statement as well. The fact that he was forced stop taking it is honestly criminal. Vyvanse is decent if you start out with it, but switching to it after taking Adderall for many years will take months for the body to adjust to it since the medications are not a 1 to 1 comparison. The fact that he was taking it and still sucked early in his career should have been evidence enough for MLB that it wasn’t giving him an edge.

@winosandbar5077 I take Vyvanse which is very similar to Adderall and I feel like while mentally its a huge boost it drains a TON of electrolytes and needs a lot of protein to break down to work effectively, some can say it's detrimental to high cardio sports. It's very noticeable how much more drained I feel after exercising on it vs off it - doing sport related activities it feels like your body is working twice as hard for no real reason on it due to overstimulation if that makes sense but I feel as a millionaire with all the resources possible to make the medication work as effective as humanly possible I can see how it can be unfair.

Adderal ruined my soccer career. At age 17 I was playing semi pro. I was diagnosed with ADHD. This drug was making my heart feel like it was going to explode. I couldn't sprint 20 yards without falling over. I tried to quit that crap but it was hard. A season later, when I finally got off of it, I had lost my spot. Depression got the best of me. I hate that stuff.

Adderall is over prescribed, without question, which is unfortunate for the many people who truly cannot live a "normal" life without it. Stimulants have been around for almost a century and they will continue to be used and abused. Like the drug war itself, uneducated people who don't have any understanding of the nuances of certain substances, unfortunately are in power and make short sighted blanket decisions that are detrimental to everyone. While not actually addresing the problem.

Between the summer of 2019 and the beginning of 2022, I stopped taking my adderall cold turkey. Within that timeframe, I was probably at my lowest points in my life. I gained weight, couldn't focus on menial tasks, dropped out of college, and especially during the later half of 2019, I could barely remember or think clearly for myself. Half the time, I didnt even know what I was doing. For Davis to play while essentially quitting cold turkey, and still getting the bat on the ball is a miracle in itself.

The sprinter with the prosthetic legs comes to mind as a parallel. Does the athlete have a legitimate medical condition? Yes. Does the treatment for that medical condition give the player an unfair advantage? There's a strong case to be made that it does. There are also plenty of doctors who will write scripts for PEDs or who could be tricked by athletes into writing one. It's complicated.

Blaming the player for signing a lucrative contract is silly. If your employer came to you and told you that they wanted to give you $161 million for the next 7 seasons, you would sign anything which guarantees that. If anything, blame the team or the owner for not doing its due diligence. Also, blame the team for fully guaranteeing the amount.

If you’re add or adhd your at a disadvantage sometimes I prefer it over mass quantities of sugar they I coped before I knew what my problem was. The fact is baseball is a mental game someone with add can’t be the only tool in an arsenal he would have been better off on a better team batting in the middle of the lineup rather than the teams only slugger. Like a Scott Rollen batting behind Albert Puljos and Jim Edmonds. That organization I think has always been disfunctional anyway
