‘ i could never imagine living a life ‘ I FEEL YOUUU I knew I had ADD forever but for some reason my doctor of the time never took me seriously. I had issues with my daily life , and I felt so frustrated especially at work and at school because I always understood everything , I always knew I was smart but would make careless mistakes that made me feel and appear dumb even though i was NOT. It affected my self-esteem for years and I always felt like I was not able to live the life I deserved ; to live to my full potential. I finally got a diagnostic for ADD at age 25 ( was about time ) and I started Concerta. I can now work and study properly, I feel like I’ve been blind for years and now I got glasses on and I can SEE ( hope that makes sense 😅 ) I wish to stay on Concerta , my only advice is keep the dose as low as possible so you avoid building a high tolerance. To all the people out there who are adults and think ADHD is the culprit for your struggles, please get a professional opinion and do not be scared to try medication. It can really change your life ❤️

Patrick, I want to say thank you. After 33 years of unmedicated ADHD life - with all of its disorganisation, distraction, and unmet potential - today was my first day on Concerta. It was just as you describe; a subtle, but radical shift, allowing me to function normally, to not have to continually fight with my brain to get basic tasks done. I have never felt more euphoric; not from the drug, but simply from operating as a human being can do. It really is like night and day. Thank you again for sharing your story, through your videos, and all the best with your life and journey.

Hi Henri and Patrick, I am 50, just diagnosed with ADHD and 5th day on Concerta! Congrats to you both. I spent years misdiagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety- no antidepressants ever worked, and actually just made me feel empty, which depressed me more. I spent my whole life trying to figure myself out, going on a health journey and becoming a healer myself. Then my life started to slowly crumble, health problems and responsibilities sky rocketed and I had crisis after crisis until I realized that I have ADHD. After taking Concerta, I can finally do what I need to do for myself and my family, but not only that- I am painting, sewing, going out and enjoying the outside. My conversations are focused, my to do lists make better sense but I do feel like it is making me feel aggressive, so I hope I can even out with Concerta or find another medicine that works for me. Good luck ADHD family! Hugs from Canada!

I am on day 4. The hardest pill to swallow was realising that I lost 38 years of my life because I didn’t know I had ADHD. Even after being diagnosed I still thought mine was a mild case, until I took concerta. Oh boy, the improvement made me aware of all other hidden symptoms that I wasn’t aware off. How did I manage to survive this long I don’t know, but one is for sure, I am not going back to that pain. Concerta has opened up my life.

Yeah I always thought I had a mild case too, just mild enough to cause me troublesome patterns but not severe enough that I was non-functional. I even managed quite a lot on it and if it wasn't for some lack of confidence I'm sure I would have gone further. I turned down several excellent job opportunities because of lack of confidence. Sometimes I wonder which was my greater handicap, my ADHD or my lack of confidence in the workplace? It's hard for me to say right now. Also perhaps a thyroid issue??? Would have fatigue issues throughout the day although those would come and go. Very frustrating. Wonder how I will feel once I try one of these effective meds.

I am in my 20s and my life has been a mess for many years now. I've received many pointers from people to go to a specialist and I finally gave in. I'm gonna set up an appointment soon, and I will at least confirm if that's ADHD or maybe something else. Or maybe nothing. No matter what happens, I will walk out of there understanding myself a bit more, and if I do have ADHD, maybe medication will finally help me function like a normal human being.

I just got diagnosed 2 weeks ago at 47 years old. My work life has generally been absolute hell because I would forget everything and I would always end up in conflict with people getting frustrated with me. 2015 I moved to Vietnam to teach English. Having creative freedom and having the space to be able to mess up once in a while was brilliant. However, after unintentionally moving up the ladder, I found myself in a manager position. It's been a real struggle, so many careless mistakes, forgetting stuff, but thankfully my boss is very supportive. After researching ways to improve my productivity and make my life more bearable it became clear that I had ADHD. I was not especially hyperactive as a kid so never thought I had it. I went to the Doctor, and he confirmed I have mild/moderate ADHD and prescribed me Concerta. I only took it on my days off because I did not want to have a panic attack at work. However, the last 4 days I've taken it at work and this video pretty much describes how my week has gone. I'm getting so much more done, calmly working through tasks in a logical order. One little thing that blew my mind was that my locker was so messy, full of random forms and bits of paper. I tidied it, but did not even think about tidying it; I just did it, no big deal like a normal person. I'm also much better at listening and having a conversation with my colleagues. I feel very hopeful, let me know if you have any questions, I would love to help people who have suffered with ADHD, because we're so misunderstood.

Thanks for sharing this video. I also started methylphenidate too, just a week ago now. I've worried about having ADHD for more than three years (i am 21), but going into my college and working years I really started seeing the effects of it. All the sudden school wasn't easy and my grades were pretty bad except for a few classes I had genuine interest in. I dropped out partly because of grades, and partly for financial reasons. Working I've always been known as the forgetful type, and in other areas of my life I reached a point where I couldn't muster up the motivation to pursue even the hobbies and things I enjoy, such as music, or theological study (I am a Christian). Not to mention how much schedules were difficult for me too. Medication has helped me tremendously in spending time on the things I actually want to spend time on. It's helped calm me down instead of being overly impulsive. I was worried it would take away a part of me and just make me a working zombie with no ambitions, but even though it is calming for me, it hasn't had that effect I feared. I hope things are still going well for you, thanks

its so weird how the symptoms of adhd are similar to what people without it experience when they take stimulants, despite stimulants being used to treat adhd.
@Noswiatel5 ай бұрын
Because they never learned to control it. People are born with ADHD. Their whole life is a journey to learn how to cope with it, rather than to cope with demands of others. ADHD is kinda similar to trauma induced dissociation. The mind wants to do so many things, but the body just cant do it. Once you go above a certain threshold, its the same for neurotypical people. Their mind wants to do all the (meaningless) stuff, but the body cant figure out how to do it in time. The difference is, people with ADHD want to do whats important and have learned how to transfer the hyperfocus to these parts of life, and people without ADHD have been doing what they were supposed to, and (subconsciously), want to do the meaningless little stuff. It takes a lifetime to learn the systems ADHD people develop to perform.
@Nk-ec5nyАй бұрын
There is a explanation for this! People with adhd have lower dopamine and norepinephrine levels, so when they take medication they are at the point neurro typically people are at, when you have a lack of dopamine you do risky things to obtain it, you get pushed over the threshold when you’re neurotypical and take it therefor causing adhd like symptoms

You are not wrong brother, I've been practicing / fighting Muay Thai for 15 years along with Russian Systema , mindfulness meditation everything that's non-drug-related, and I was treated with medication when I was a kid and it worked phenomenally, but as an adult when I was untreated and took myself off of the medication I went down a deep dark hole, now I am arguing with my psychiatrist about my diagnosis that is on paper all the paperwork is in front of her and she's trying to throw me anti-psychotic and ssris / anti-depressants, I told her I've been on them my whole life they never did anything to me but make me numb and useless, I don't naturally depend on anything but at the same time ADHD is very serious and I'm glad you got your diagnosis brother just keep going don't let this thing not tear you down please❤

Oh my god I got diagnosed at age 19 I’m 25 now. It is just not okay that people are getting diagnosed SO LATE IN LIFE. This is why I believe EVERY COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, HIGH SCHOOL, around the world should be annually testing all students for mental health issues. IMAGINE how much could be prevented/treated? You can’t prevent/treat something you don’t even know exists. We are taught in health classes about our food and psychical health, (at least in USA) as if our brain is NOT part of our psychical health. It is so overlooked! And I believe it’s part of why there are so many school shootings in the USA, as well as suicides amongst teenagers/young adults. And the rise of drug addiction (U.S.A. being the worst in the world) is due to underlying mental health issues. This is why it’s so important for MENTAL HEALTH to be TREATED JUST IF NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN PSYCHICAL HEALTH starting at a YOUNG age.

Well said! So much could be prevented if we also paid attention to mental aspects in our life instead of just physical. Maybe someday...

Thank you for sharing your experience. I started taking 18mg of Concerta last week and felt exactly what you describe on my first day although it only lasted about 8 hours. I felt kind of robotic but it felt so good to have no anxiety and ability to finish tasks so quickly. The impulse to get up every few minutes disappeared. It was awesome! In my second week, the impulsive thoughts are back but not to the same degree. I still have more energy than I did before starting Concerta. Gonna talk to my doctor about increasing the dosage and hopefully I feel its effects again

Hey BlinkFM, my doctor prescribed me from the very first beginning 18-72 mg a day. I started at 18mg but quickly started experimenting with different dosages. 18 mg is my usual dose 90 % of the time these days. I always see how is my day is and how do I feel. I’m very sorry you went undisgnosed so long. That causes so many other comorbid conditions & rejections. It’s sucks. I too noticed a major difference on concerta. My main issue was my memory to the point I went to a psycologist I thought my husband was moving my keys & items around. Gaslightening me! My daughter told me this wasn’t true. On concerta I started remembering things that weren’t in my sight. That’s why my entire kitchen is in clear glass Pre diagnosis. I had to see it to remember. After concerta I remembered names everything! I also relate to the rapid movement speech you mention. On concerta I could talk more concise. Before concerta my mouth couldn’t keep up with how fast my brain was thinking. If I have a gap in medication or don’t take it that does come back with the insomnia. Crazy I thought as I got older I just needed less sleep. It goes to show as human we have to find explanations to things. My husband was not gaslightening me. I wasn’t non caring because I couldn’t remenber names. It was adhd. I wasn’t rude for interrupting. I was afraid I would forget if I didn’t blurt it out. You are correct concerta is a wonder drug. We both we late diagnosis Patrick. I was 42! The before & after is drastic. The only thing now is I’m playing catch up on yrs of papers & things I couldn’t get to. Decision making even small decisions can be hard for us. So it’s easy to hoard. My house is in order but my garage is horrifying. It’s hard to correct a lifetime living with deficits. But ThankGod we live in a time of great medicine. There is so much hope. Thanks for spreading awareness. I love your Channel Godbless you!

Patrick just know that years later your story is still helping to inspire people including myself. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope to start an adhd med very soon and I hope to have a similar story to report soon. Oh and I'm 41. The unfortunate part is I did suspect ADHD all the way back in my 20s and I even started Vyvanse briefly. However I fell off of it quickly and I guess I never considered restarting. I can't remember why. I wouldn't say my life was unmanageable during this intervening period, but I would say I had difficulty getting and keeping it all together. I believe some of the reason was just bad luck, but some part was no doubt due to adhd. There was always something that seemed to prevent me from achieving longer-term stability with a job or school or both. I honestly don't know why it wasn't really just until this year and later last year I thought to get re-evaluated and consider medication. Actually, forget that, I did briefly in 2016 but fell off of it again and didn't not try to restart. And same thing, I can't remember why right now. I don't have as much the hyperactivity aspect, altho I do have a very busy mind but it's tolerable, but my main handicaps are distractibility, lack of follow through, endless procrastination, time management, focus problems, tackling clutter, seeking work, delaying gratification, and sustaining concentration over longer periods of time. Have used natural supplements to some positive effect but I am now certain that I need a formulated stimulant to really make deeper changes. I actually have a final goal of undergoing neurofeedback I'm hopes of being ADHD-free forever, but in order to pay for it I need to be able to work steadily and in order to do that, at this point in my life at least, I need some external support. Otherwise I'm sure I would have done so already but I can't seem to bring myself to make it happen. I will try to remember this comment and report back in six months with hopefully just as positive a progress report to share.

I'm 31 years old and just got my diagnosis. I have been diagnosed with the "severe dysfunction". All my life has been a fucking huge shit show, a fucking mess. And last year I hit the hard wall, I got a neurological dysfunction from being such a mess, it was triggered by extreme levels of anxiety, restlessness and panic.. I thought I was a danger to myself, but when I hit that wall, I was sure I was a danger to myself. I always felt like an impostor. I always thought I would never be worth a job or having a stable life or stable relationships. I got diagnosed with General anxiety disorder, panic disorder and OCD. But I did know this wasn't the whole story. I always felt, since I was very young that there was something very very different with me, I was mocked and shamed for my "careless mistakes", I was called "the tourist" in school and university ... I can't believe I've finally found the root issue. ADHD had been creeping behind my back all my life, it was pushing me into compulsive and obsessive behaviours as well as addictions all my life, it had made me feel so ashamed for being called "careless, distracted and irresponsible" all my life. I'm more then welcoming any medication that may help me with this. This is already life changing for me and a huge relief. PS: I'm still laughing at "I was a cartoon carachter XDDD !!" , that's basically who I am, someone you can just observe and laugh at!

There’s no adverse effect from stopping the medication abruptly. Personally, I take 2 days(in a row) off per week This prevents me from building a tolerance and staying at 27mg. If you take the medicine daily you WILL build a tolerance and eventually need to increase the dose however higher doses of stimulants are very toxic for the brain.

Hello! I definitely recommend seeing your doctor or other professional about this situation. I am not a doctor so I cannot give you counseling on this kind of matter. I wish you luck :)

The combination of Concerta and Ginger Ale is pretty good
@ADHDPatrick5 жыл бұрын
hmm might try this, thanks for the tip!
@妖夢-k4c5 жыл бұрын
@@ADHDPatrick You can drink Concerta with water and then ginger ale. Ginger ale should be low in sugar.

They are quite different medications Maithili, they have different ingredients, Concerta has methylphenidate and Adderall has amphetamine in it :)

@@ADHDPatrick I started Concerta today and I feel great .. would Adderall make me feel greatER :)?
@ADHDPatrick3 жыл бұрын
Wow congrats on that! :) I have never tried Adderall, it is not available in my country, so I dont know. People react differently to medications, some work better than others :)

I live in Jordan , and i had a telepsychaitry , from a doctor who lives in USA . However , I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and ADD 7 weeks ago . I have been taking zoloft to calm me down because I have a bad burn out and overthinking and self esteem struggles . Im better now but i still have a bad organization and knowing that im an Arab , i am still live with my family and they always blame me for lack of concentration . I have a question , did you suffer from not being able to understand maths very quickly ? I remember struggling and being very slow at solving problems . Im also a hard worker but I have never get high grades at UJ . I also failed on one subject I studied the most and unfortunately repeating the year for .

Hello Yossor, glad that you are feeling better now. Math was always a big problem for me, it was extremely hard for me to focus and maintain patience with it. Solving problems definitely always took more time.
