Today, we discuss the story of how Adidas made the mistake of letting Michael Jordan slip through there hands. You probably won't believe the reasoning as to why they didn't sign him. It's the biggest mistake a company has ever made.

He was a rookie that had yet to set foot on a pro court. It doesn't matter how promising, those guys *are* a risk. Think of all the top-tier talent that had the world ahead of them, only to have a career ending injury, poor decision, accident, or change of heart early in their careers. I am sure that Adidas kicked themselves after his rookie season though.

Mike is the reason I choose to wear adidas today. I grew up in NC and after he announced he was leaving Carolina to go pro, he and a bunch of other ACC players went on a barnstorming tour throughout North Carolina. They played a game at my local high school, some friends and I rode our bikes there and sat court side mesmerized....Mike came out wearing the all white with black stripes Adidias Top Ten brand and I was hooked from there. Although I love Mike and knew way back in 82 he was going to be that guy, I've never owned a pair of Air Jordans.....been rocking adidias ever since.

Converse and Adidas was huge in the late 70's to mid 80's If you look at Rocky 1 2 and 4 they shoes were everywhere in those movies Nike got lucky in Rocky 3 at the time it may had made sense because Bird and Magic were trading championship but if Jordan had signed with Converse or Adidas Nike would be dead.

Different sport, shoes, and all but this might give something about Nike's profile pre Jordan. I was playing little league baseball back in 1980-81 and was the only kid on the team wearing Nikes. In every other team we played there were maybe 4-5 other kids wearing them also, that's how low key Nike was at the time.

I remember the shoe for MJ called the Weapon.it was Easter and all the little boys were supposed to get dress shoes for Easter Sunday services. We sold them the dress Nikes and their mothers made them return them for dress shoes. We went to Burger King and got coupons for fries to give to the kids. They also had a video of MJ at he stadium dribbling the ball on one side of the 12' barb wired fence, taking to the air and dunking the ball on the other side of the fence. That is the first time I knew MJ could literally FLY.
