I tried telling some of these things to some people and I was labeled as a luddite. The sad irony is I first heard that word in a video game! In regard to chatGPT I asked it about whether it believed the Earth was flat, and it responded by saying there was no evidence to suggest that it was (not that it matters anyway). However when I mentioned a conversation I had where I had questions people didn't feel obligated to answer, it seemed to be very judgmental of how I handled the situation, although I never told the person they were obligated, How could an AI possibly know how human interaction is supposed to work? There was on instance where it admitted to being just an AI and not able to answer what I was asking it. There was another instance where a chat bot like chat GPT was used to provide advice to people experiencing mental health issues, and the advice the AI gave these people was found to be unhelpful. I reckon AI does have a place in society, but it shouldn't be used to replace all interaction with human beings.

thanks for sharing - it's definitely going to be interesting to see how it continues to be involved in our society. Frankly, the more impactful ways it's integrated we often won't see directly, like algorithms influencing our lives vs. asking it direct questions for help in an essay.

@@GameQuitters Good points. I would still prefer to write or type something myself. We have hands for a reason... And I can definitely relate to how it is being used to decide what we see on social media and whether what we post on there is considered a violation or not. But there are ways to challenge tha algorithim. I found a plugin that let's me decide what I want to look at on Facebook. It enables me to see posts I wouldn't otherwise get to see.

Thanks for the video. AI is also a primary reason for the current writers guild strike; because big suits who run the entertainment industry - who have way too much money and are so far removed from standard living wages - dared to suggest that writers could be replaced by AIs to write scripts instead. Writers of course were very quick to action to protect their jobs and their talents. Personally, I think that AI can be used to benefit us in our job functions; I use it all the time now to get basic examples of how to use specific code libraries, just in my personal experience. At the same time, my experience asking it to write something more complicated than a routine function or task tends to produce very questionable and often buggy results, which often don't even plug in nicely with my existing codebase. So I still have to come in as a developer, as the person who is in charge of applying the problem humanly. This is why I don't foresee my job getting replaced by AIs in my lifetime, if ever; software is at its core mapping human logic and thought processes together. Writers are also arguing similarly, that AI can be useful to help them elevate their ideas and refine their work; not that it will or should ever replace them. And frankly, I think this is common sense to almost anyone out there, except the majority of people in charge; the ones who only look to save money and cut corners, because it's what will make them richer. You don't have to pay an AI after all, so if you look at it as a "by the numbers" kind of thing, it makes sense; the problem is that number-crunching book keeping only works well if you are trying to adjust machines, not when it involves people or when a creative and critical approach is a necessary ingredient. In my opinion, I think it's the people in charge who will present the true danger with how AI is used. Because they are the ones that will ultimately make the decisions that will apply AI, and we have to continue doing our best to convince them that eliminating human effort - while it may save them money in the short term - will ultimately be disastrous for us all.

Before I watch the video, I would say that AI itself isn't bad, it depends on how it is used, almost all skills or things can be used both for good or for bad, including AI

Read that you were sick. Glad to see you are feeling better Cam. Unfortunately I have been gaming harder (24) hour increments when I do then in the past. Nice Wall-E reference and tie in to the struggle IRL.

Thanks. Just some cold that seems to have been going around. Learn from the slip and get back on track. Nothing to gain from gaming. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@GameQuitters Thank you for the thoughtful response. The crazy thing is the repeating short melody from group dungeons was in my head the following morning first thing through noon that day. This is highly distracting from being able to work the next day. If repeatedly the first thing you think in the morning and the last thing thought before bed is the same unhealthy thing it’s a pretty good indication of an idol in one’s life. Also, when I game 24 hours straight on a vacation day or a weekend since I am older it now takes my body days to recover from the exhaustion I put on my body and the self-induced misery that comes with being a grumpy gamer.

Eh. I mean idk, man. I think it has as much benefits as it does downfalls. Sure AI technology could make humans more lazy, boring, and uncreative, which is why I do think some regulation of AI is necessary. But I don’t think it’s going to kill all humans on earth. Tf? Also just look at the many benefits AI has on humanity in areas such as healthcare, national defense, poverty, world hunger, climate, etc. In my honest opinion this topic does not get treated with the nuance and objectivity that it deserves. There are wrong people on both sides (those saying AI doesn’t come with any downsides and those saying it is evil and should be stopped all together). My stance on this whole thing is more neutral and unbiased, which is this: AI is simply a tool. And just like all tools, it can be used for good, and it can be used for bad. It really depends on the intent of the user. The same thing applies to things like airplanes, cars, guns, nuclear weapons, and such. But what we do to combat those consequences isn’t to ban the tool, or stop all production of it, or ban it from being used at all. That would be insanity. What we do is implement (reasonable) regulations like keeping people with malicious intent from gaining access to such tech in the first place or set limits on how it can be used or what it can do. I think there really needs to be more videos, documentaries, articles, and knowledge panels that treat this subject with more nuance, objectivity, and impartiality. I know some people prefer to remain clothed in their own biases (especially on topics like this), but on this topic, I for one, prefer to be open-minded and objective.
