This is due to the war on intellectualism. As Asamov says, "The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' Sharpe nailed one flaw in Harari's model: consciousness is the ability to reflect about one's existence and condition, not only the ability to feel.
@hsitz2 ай бұрын
Many people tend to think some animals have consciousness (even if less than humans have) while it is at the same time denied that they have the ability to reflect on their "existence and condition. Moreover, nothing that Harari says turns on the definition of consciousness: Harari distinguishes intelligence (which AI have) from consciousness (which Harari says AI doesn't now have and may never have).

it perplexes me that people can't just listen and read information without such strong bias that ends up causing a blind ignorance. Perhaps schools need to teach foundational methods so that child can learn to grow up able to engage better in learning and think about it afterwards. The human dilemna seems to be that many reject learning unless it lines up with already formulated ideas. Teaching should really be able communicating the idea of allowing the mind to not sit on concrete ideas....defining what's foundational and what is worthy of exploration.

"...with a single piece of paper you can save or destroy..."
@alexleanhАй бұрын
AI can be good and bad with positives and negatives just like a human baby. When we decide to have a child, we take a huge risk into the unknown... because we don't know what our child will eventually bring. First of all, will the child survive birth... then... will the child be healthy growing up... then... will the child be smart, sensitive, loving, and with good qualities as a human being... then... will the child be successful in his career, marriage, and with a happy life... OR... all the opposite? The child could be a serial killer or a drug addict or a rapist.... We just don't know! We just do it and then take a risk as time goes on... while trying our best as parents to be right by our child. Secondly, our child has feelings and consciousness, unlike AI. So, AI has to be dealt with in completely different manners and parameters.

Feelings and emotions are evidently the cause of so many wars. We dont need more emotions, we need ratio - more than ever.
@user-rr9lv9ll4xАй бұрын
Actually.. we need STABLE emotions. Because irritation, unstable anger, feelngs of low self esteem, irrational up and down moods... addiction needs/ feelings are the problem. People need counseling to move past these feelings into competence (stable feelings mixed with a knowledge base). No one is fully linear and logical.. it's impossible. The first concept the brain forms (in my opinion) is attachment, a trust, and an emotional connection. Babies cry, grow holes on (seen on brain scans) when these are not there. Realistic Logic abd accurate rational thinking stem from healthy emotions.

@leaevans2347 Interestingly enough, didn't Jesus also say, that "Not everyone that says to him "Lord, Lord we believed in you" (paraphrased) will enter the kingdom of Heaven? But only the ones that "do the will of God." Jesus does NOT appear to have an ego. AND didn't Jesus also say "the truth shall set you free?" It seems to me if someone is telling the truth, even if they do not believe in Jesus, Jesus would find it amusing (no big ego), and if the person was kind, he would talk with them about reality (*which covers so many topics). Jesus would relate to them. Especially if they were generally decent people. God is Omnipotent, and God is Love. If this man is saying the truth... I think God would be proud of any person for recognizing truth. I personally do not worry nor judge about this man's or anyone else's sslvation, God and Jesus got that under wraps. None of my input is required, although often give it...human Lord, human. I figure, we are just to follow God's will, and do onto others as we want others to do onto us. May they Spirit of God, and His Son, Jesus Christ help everyone to recognize truth & realty - from who ever is telling it...

Christ said, "whatever you have done unto the very least of these, (people in need), you have done unto me." I wouldn't worry about praying for others salvation.. God, Who is omnipotent, has got that. He judges who is decent, and worthy of salvation.. we really can't.
