I did the knock sensor on my 2014 Mazda 2 1.3 last year and for a Mazda I thought it would be easy but it's buried under the inlet manifold and I thought it was a barsteward. I also did the clutch master cylinder 2 weeks ago and again it was more awkward than I was anticipating - my side still hurts from being jammed under the dash. ( haha) but being retired it saved me a bag full of dosh. Apart from that, I agree with you, super little cars.

Man a bad battery is a bad battery. It might start a car but if it is bad it will provide low voltage to the ECU at cold start and can cause ignition chain failures right across the board even when running. You may have no obvious low battery symptoms but if that battery is bad, it can still be messing up the car in other ways. Thats when you (the dealer) start getting cars back for misfires, bad coil packs and plugs etc. If the battery is rough, change it. For the sake of 50-100 quid or whatever a battery costs in those type of cars, you will save money on troubleshooting with garages, and save yourself valuable time and energy.

Peugeot 208 wet belt is a pain to do and expensive I’ve done two and the amount of stripping is a pain. U need the timing tools to do the job. Inlet manifold off injectors out air box out engine mounting off cam cover off u need to replace the crankshaft seal and the seal that covers the timing belt tensioner and idler and cam box gasket. There’s a company in Holland doing a timing chain conversion kit which means u change the belt for the chain and don’t need to worry about the belt breaking up also those engines do premature wear the piston rings and use oil

Yup. Annoys me when a mechanic is wrong about something but expects you to foot the bill. My local VAG dealers refused to replace a defective thermostat without my also paying them to analyse the car at a cost of £150. The only reason I wasn't changing it myself was it needed a special tool I didn't have.

I would never buy a car for a daily driver that has been previously welded, It flags up to me that it has metal cancer and you will be welding it up annually to get through it's MOT, I would move on and buy a nice rust free example and even a more rust resistant different car even if i have to pay a bit more, Quality welding is not cheap! Classic cars on the other hand are obviously a different kettle of fish but i would insist on a ramp inspection to make sure it is correctly welded cutting out old metal and replacing with new to a high quality and not a patchwork quilt, And yes, I can weld and i have certification having done a full RTITB apprenticeship which included all types of welding! Mazda's though mechanically really good are rust heaps after 10 years on UK road's. If car manufacturer's sell cars world wide they need to learn about rust prevention out of their un salted, Mild climate and do a better job IMO. It's not hard to rust proof a car at the factory and they are just $$ pinching, There is no excuse if you are selling cars globally.

@everythingtechnew74002 күн бұрын
@ I understand that but when it’s at the stage of welding in my experience. I would personally never buy a vehicle that’s rusted to the point it’s required welding to shore it up again. As you say rightly so it’s a 16 year old car it’s not new but not cheap like back in the day. That said going back to the 90’s if it was 16 years old in today’s money that’s like car dog years you can multiply it by 7 lol. It still amazes me how well modern cars hold up over time.

Good luck with 2.5k bud, it'd be a 1295 er over here. You've got to do cheapies in house, good days mechanics work, you need to do pre mot's yourself then maybe sack it off, hope it came for 500 quid, I bought a little mint pixo 09 for 500 from Aston barclay and no ones ringing at 1295.Ive never known the post cat sensor affecting the pre cat, I'd measure mixture on live data, usually it's a miss fire, so sensor is actually OK, it's reading a rich mixture, I'd run it to see if it stays off. I really can't understand why you don't get your own guy in with all the labour your paying, on the cam belt and those 2 cheapies it's got to be 1200 labour, 2 week wages for a mechanic, someone retired like Pete, 100 quid a day, well worth an advert, throw that power steering pump job in on that vw and that'd be a 2795er, you'd be quids in.
