In 2019, Donald Trump tried to purchase Greenland from Denmark but was firmly rejected. This was actually the 4th time America tried to buy Greenland, so why have their previous attempts failed, and why does America want Greenland so badly?
I hope you enjoy(ed) the video! Thank you and have a good day :)

I used to wonder how they even settled centuries ago on who gets that island. So I'm not surprised about the dispute or the new border. Did you know the U.S. shares a border with Cuba? Or that Spain shares a border with Morocco? Then of course there's France sharing a border with Brazil.

They have no interest in selling their land. They have not shown any interest in it historically, show any interest in it now now or is likely to do that in the foreseeable future. I agree that China shouldn't get a foodhold - obviously. Denmark also has a final say in some cases deemed to be potentially security issues, which has led to declining chinese offers. Greenland has already burned their fingers with an Australian mining company, ruling is still out but it can be incredible costly, why they are very reluctant to what they allow to be mined. Greenland (and Denmark to an lesser extend) is much more protective of the environment that the US is. This is one of the major reasons, along with the pure economically, why the US want to acquire everything. @@skyserf

_now or is likely to do that in the foreseeable future._ That’s impossible to know. _I agree that China shouldn't get a foodhold - obviously. Denmark also has a final say in some cases deemed to be potentially security issues, which has led to declining chinese offers._ That didn’t occur in a vaccum. The US highlighted its concerns to Denmark regarding security and defense concerns associated with Chinese investments in critical infrastructure in Greenland. The strategic location of Greenland in the Arctic makes it a significant concern for NATO and the U.S. in terms of security. Also, in 2020 the US reopened its consulate in Nuuk after being closed since 1953. The United States has also offered financial aid and investment to Greenland as an alternative to Chinese investments. This includes funding for economic development, educational initiatives, and infrastructure projects. _This is one of the major reasons, along with the pure economically, why the US want to acquire everything._ What are you try to posit here? Economics are a factor but preventing China from gaining influence and bases close to North America are the primary reasons. @fastertove

No they can not. They have there own governors and elections so? ever US state and territory does to how does that make Greenland special at all? BBC "Greenland is the world's largest island and an autonomous Danish dependent territory with limited self-government and its own parliament." PBS " Greenland gained autonomy from Denmark in 1979, but the former colonial power still has control of the island's most important affairs." And Denmark's own website "The act means that Greenland can assume additional areas of responsibility. However, foreign policy, defence policy, and security policy cannot be transferred to Greenland." and one from Greenland "Although Greenland is geographically a part of the North American continent, it has been politically and culturally associated with Europe for about a millennium. Since 1721, Denmark has held colonies in Greenland, but the country was made part of Denmark in 1953."

@@zach2382 From wikipedia: "Greenland is a self-governing entity within the constitutional monarchy of the Kingdom of Denmark, in which Queen Margrethe II is the head of state. The monarch officially retains executive power and presides over the Council of State (privy council). However, following the introduction of a parliamentary system of government, the duties of the monarch have since become strictly representative and ceremonial" They're self-governing within the Kingdom of Denmark (or the Danish Realm), which contains Greenland, the Faroe islands and Denmark proper. Obviously they wouldn't have their own army or foreign relations, but they have enough autonomy to govern themselves while not being a proper country.

Greenland is a very young country, and it's on its way to independence. They need to want it, and they need to be ready for it first. That is what the Danish prime minister was referring to, and why a sale isn't possible. This has been blindingly obviously for some time, if you had just the slightest knowledge on the subject, and something Trump (or his advisers) should have known. That is why he was made fun of.

Not everyone thought Alaska was a waste of money. A lot of people thought it was a good idea, and buying Greenland should be on the to do list of an American president, that wants America to be energy independent and powerful, it helps our allies too. Let's hope Trump gets in there again, because we know Biden and a Democrat will never think this far ahead in making America strong and propose.
