How an electric vehicle conversion company is helping to reduce air pollution in Nairobi

Opibus converts existing cars and other vehicles with internal combustion engines into electric vehicles - a far less wasteful green solution than manufacturing new electric cars. We caught up with Opibus Swedish co-founders Filip Gardler and Filip Lovstrom at their garage in the outskirts of Kenya’s capital Nairobi to get more insight into their initiative.

Imagine the jobs. You can have jua kali car repairers striping down the car removing the engine and parts that are not needed and then take the shell of the car to opibus to fit them with the battery technology. Imagine the jobs created. Just converting thousands of cars into electric will create many jobs.

A great initiative. Can only hope that as electric vehicles become more widespread globally that this drives down the price of components used in these sort of conversions. Air pollution is a major contributor to bad health/early deaths (and this is everywhere in the world!). Coupled with renewable energy, it can't happen soon enough!

@@kingshussein5409 I should've seen this earlier!!!😂I'm thinking of setting up two things,a network of electric car charging stations(which will also have garages specifically tailored to electric vehicles,since most local mechanics cannot fix such)and a manufacturing factory for them,like what Uganda is doing (though instead of focusing on locally manufactured cars I focus on manufacturing for other established companies; outsourcing)
